  1. Back to the shop! Had an incident and the approved repairer used the best parts Asia had to offer....nothing lined up so they are now awaiting Genuine parts to do the job properly!

My ISO adaptor had a 2M cable to run through the dash, and another for a phone/handsfree/mute, no other parts were bought apart from a fuse. The Fascia has 4 tabs and only 2 lined up correctly. I broke the bottom 2 off to more-or-less center the 2 parts, but I dont think it would have mattered if the top ones came off instead as the headunit and cubby hold the fascia to the frame. It is as I posted in your other radio thread a few weeks ago, except I've actually fitted the cuvby now!

  2. Piggy has a few cm but the iso adaptor has more than enough. Route it under the steering column and through to the fuse box then crimp on the piggy :)

The biggest problem I had was finding space for the extra wiring behind the headunit, it tucked in behind the climate panel ok though...

  3. Ebay numbers i got were:

    231009521343 - piggy back

    231399358808 - Single Din Conversion

    261251307341 - ISO converter

Also got a pack of mini blade fuses from Euro Car Parts for £1.

the ISO has the switched live cable ready to attach to the piggy back.

you will lose the CD changer and Aux functions, if you currently have them in the car.

  4. Search on ebay for the connects2 single din fascia converter and ISO adaptor. While you're at it, search for a piggy back "add a circuit". You may need a single din metal cage too.

i fitted these 3 a few weeks ago and have had no issues. I bought the Connects2 via BassJunkies and the piggy back was £2.

the bullets can be swapped, and you WILL need to go to the fuse box for a switched live. I used the towbar fuse outlet on mine.

iirc the ISO adaptor switched the lives over so i didn't have to change the bullets.

took around half hour total to install my kenwood and amp and cost less than £20.

Skoda sell a conversion kit, but i think it is around £70

  5. Well my issue is that when I start the car and for the first few mins of driving, and lights that are on will go dim, bright, dim...constatly.

When the car is in neutral it will do it, but after a few minutes, it stays constantly bright while driving...put it in neutral again and everything dims, headlights, interior, dash/clocks/climate etc.

The car is in warranty for another 2 weeks but would like to know what us wrong before the dealer fobs me off...

A couple of people have said it is to do with the smart system? I have no idea what makes it "smart"...pain in the ass if you ask me! Never had an issue with the "old fashioned" charging systems!

Battery is new and alternator is 25k miles/15 months old, so figured I could rule those out...

  6. Hi guys, I had a friend rub diagnostics on my car, but VCDS kept saying it couldn't access the charging system.

I have an issue with it somewhere, but have no idea what it is so was hoping VCDS would point my in the right direction. Being an apparent "Smart" charging system, I assumed it would be scanable...

Is it something that can usually be scanned, a dealer only access or trial and error to find the fault?

The car is a 2006 Octavia Elegance BXE TDi

  7. 3 versions?? My S2 loads a mobile site (with desktop option) but the Windows will only load the desktop version. 9/10 it will load a page to around 80% and thats it, the page is blury and no links work to sub-forums. Works fine with other forums though...

As you may have guessed by now, mobile tech isn't my main love! :D

  8. I joined the forum, and currently login, via Facebook login, but I can't see such an option on tapatalk? My username and password doesn't work, so...am I missing something very simple!? Only reason I have it is because my works Windows phone doesn't load the forum properly! :D

  9. Would TPS not have the mount kits in stock? I've always used them for everything and maximum wait for any parts has been 24hrs so far...

Iirc, front top mounts and bearings for my Mk4 Golf were £15 all in, Mk3 Golf were similar, cant see a Mk5 Golf/Octavia being much different..."Geniune" parts aswell..

If the guys you're talking to can't search for a part, I'd personally not bother with them!

  10. I recently changed my heasunit and installed an Amp aswell, took the best part of 20 minutes to run a 14awg cable with inline fuse from the battery to the boot!

My amp is 150w RMS and has a 30a fuse inside. You also may need to run a switched live to turn it on, not sure if the canbus system can be used for remote switching for an amp? Otherwise it will be on permanently.

I think the CD changer has 1 multi core lead which plugs into the headunit, don't recal seeing a seperate power line :/

  11. For that kind of money, i'd have a word with a Skoda dealer, then your local TPS...the single DIN parts i believe are around £60-70 so wouldn't have thought Double DIN would be much different, plus the fascia will match the interior perfectly...Although im not sure if that would include the Steering controls or not...

Also, it may be worth finding out how using non-genuine parts affects the warranty etc seeing as it's a brand new car...

  12. Sorry....did you *actually* type £2500 to remove a broken glow plug!?!?

Ask them to exchange all glow plugs for NGK Iridium Spark plugs, see what they say....

Unless they have "super vision" and haven't got the hang of using it properly yet? That could explain the breakage without being touched...

Suppose if they have to strip everything down to make sure nothing is where it shouldn't be, that'd explain the extortionate figure...I'd put money on them breaking it though.

But then a Head Gasket change wouldn't be anywhere near that much which would invlove removal of the same parts...
