Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
Yes I'd be interested Steve - although I'd expect the default settings to allow stall-free driving lol

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
At last a few others who agree it is a pretty serious safety issue....

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
I've only used Normal since I got the car Steve (so many other things to work out before I go playing with that)

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
I will contact the dealer next week to report it; in the meantime all I can do is really rev the engine when picking away in traffic, which I don't think you should need to do.

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
I'd love to know what the "algorithm" for the start/stop on Mk4 is - didnt know re the steering wheel trick, but mine will start on its own as soon as the car in front moves even by an inch but in any case, whether S/S is enabled or not the car should not be stalling like this

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
So far it hasn't been dangerous...but in certain scenarios you're relying on the engine and torque to get you out of trouble etc...and if it happened then yes you would be in danger. It's the unpredictability of it as much as anything that's worrying. When it happens most times it grinds to a halt and the message "please restart engine manually" appears. Sometimes that works and other times you press the button and nothing....stick the handbrake on, wait a few seconds...try again it will start...then deal with all the waving fists behind you...

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
The car was brand new to me in February and it's a manual not auto. I will contact the dealer as well but is anyone else seeing this issue?

Octy Mk4 stalling in traffic - MAJOR safety issue
Can see this briefly mentioned in a few threads but can't see an answer.... Had the new car since February and about 2-3 times a week, in city traffic it just stalls. Very dangerous especially when you're in nose to tail traffic. what makes it worse is it seems to need the car to totally stop before you can restart the engine (1.5 petrol). You can't restart it on the roll... I have the start-stop enabled all the time - could this be a factor? My old Mk3 also had the start-stop enabled and I can honestly say I never noticed this issue even once. Could there be an issue with the car or do you have to adopt a different driving technique?

Mobile phone setup
I do that already, BBC Sounds which does get slagged off but I've had no issues with it...although I hear they are pulling plug outside UK (I'm in Ireland) As said above the "internet radio" function would be good as you could store favourites - I can't see any way to store favourites from Carplay apps like BBC sounds etc

Mobile phone setup
Thanks let me try that. Anyone know the answer to my tethering issue asked above, ie you have to tether every time you enter the car? Any way to enable an "always on" function?

So is the best plan to go into bluetooth settings on the car and delete the phone entirely?
-
Mobile phone setup
Thanks but that seems like a step backwards compared to the old car which worked perfectly via Bluetooth only. These days phone use is such an integral part of the driving experience, I can't believe they've not made it more user friendly by default

Mobile phone setup
So can we say what's "best practice" for a user friendly car phone experience overall? One that doesnt have you fiddling about with bluetooth/carpay/tethering functions every time you enter the car.... I'd rather not use voice commands if poss just a personal preference. The scroll wheel on the old car was perfect.

Mobile phone setup
I'm not in the car right now but isnt Siri a pure iphone thing and in the car it uses Laura which is the builtin Skoda one? I liked the internet radio option as you can store stations as favourites. I cant see any way to do that using carplay radio apps like BBC Sounds etc but if anyone knows a way that would be great

Mobile phone setup
So Siri is mentioned - but surely in the car it uses "Laura" which is the built in Skoda voice control which then talks to your phone via bluetooth?

Mobile phone setup
Ah so this is interesting Steve, I was wondering about that - what would you recommend? Also - I got the "internet radio" working by tethering the car to my phone - but as soon as you leave the car that obvs breaks then when you go back in the car you have to re-enable the tethering every single time...surely has to be an easier way so it stays tethered all the time?

Mobile phone setup
Ive got iphone 11 and I'm sure its asked for contact sync which I allowed but then when you press the green "phone" icon it just opens All - Missed - Favourites Do you need to enable a view to see contacts. Once - and only once - a page opened with them visible but then I navigated away and couldnt get back to it

Mobile phone setup
In the Mk3 Octy it was so easy - thumbwheel on right side of steering wheel to scroll through recent calls. I'm probably missing something but is there a way to set this up in the mk4? Or does it really rely on voice control? Also when I call up the "phone" page on the infotainment screen, all I see is "All" "Missed" & "Favourites" - no mention of Contacts at all. Does anyone have an easy "How to" for setting all this up in a user friendly way, or for that matter similar for the myriad other functions? I've had the car for over 2 months now and not really got to grips with the vast set of possible options yet...

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
Cheers would you know best way to do that?
-
Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
ok I'll try Media Monkey to manage it all - so I probably need to delete the existing music from the stick then sync the stick with Media Monkey on the PC, is that easily done?
-
Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
Thanks for the tip re media monkey, I installed it on the pc and it's done a decent job of adding missing artwork etc...then I just copied my entire media library to the USB stick using Windows and all the content is visible (I'll try your genre tweak to make it less tedious browsing). If you use media monkey to write to the USB (instead of Windows) does that give you anything different when you're browsing sat in the car?

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
I've redone the artwork using smaller jpegs. around the 200 x 200 size and it seems to display fine now. So I'm thinking the car doesn't like bigger files for the artwork, anyone know if there's a spec for this sort of thing?

CD player options
Thanks that looks like a useful add on. The reason is I borrow quite a lot of CDs...if I like them then I will do as you suggest above, if not then I don't bother, so in the past it was very handy having a player in the car for auditioning purposes

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
I have done that before but in this case there's a few hundred to do... Anyway quick update - ended up installing Media Monkey as suggested above. It seemed to autofill most of the missing artwork but I still had to spend about 30 mins adding some missing stuff - fortunately Media Monkey does a better job than itunes of finding it online. so all sorted...or so I thought...but on plugging the stick into the car there is still the odd album with missing artwork...and this is with 100% of the artwork showing correctly in itunes, media monkey and in windows explorer. So I've no idea what the cause is but there's only a handful of albums affected so I'm hoping won't take too long to fix it. Real smoke n mirrors this artwork stuff...
