Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
I've got the new car now and when I play video from my iPhone 11 via Bluetooth the audio is about 1/2 a second behind the video - just another reason for me to dislike BT as well as the reasons already stated

Variable boot floor is no more - now called "slide-out bathtub"??
No it's on page 29 - I think the universal fixing elements might be the little brackets with velcro on the bottom, not sure though. For all these (vbf. bathtub etc) is there any work involved in fitting them or do they just drop in and can be removed if needed?

Variable boot floor is no more - now called "slide-out bathtub"??
That's useful and something I was thinking about - a big all flat area would be so much better. I might try and see one in the flesh but it seems like quite a lot of cash for what it appears to deliver...

Variable boot floor is no more - now called "slide-out bathtub"??
I've not seen a vbf in the flesh but heard so many good things about them. Apparently the "bathtub" above doesn't deliver a flat area so what it's for, apart from a bit of storage underneath (how useful is that, when your boot is likely to be full of stuff anyway?), I'm not sure...

When you say "proper floor" - is that the vbf? He's adamant you cant get them any more at least nor in Ireland. I'd love a Corolla estate, haven't checked prices yet but I'd be astounded if its anywhere near as cheap as the Octy combi

Dealer telling me the vbf isn't an option any more and it's been replaced with this:- He's quoting me €465 for it - but I don't think it delivers a flat loading area or flat area with seats folded. Has anyone seen one in the flesh?

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
Basically I'm old school 😁 But seriously I just don't trust bluetooth in general,eg:- pairing issues connections dropping various issues when using my iphone via bluetooth in the car, eg you're listening to some content on eg facebook and out of the blue a podcast or tunein radio will jump in and start playing, even though they're not even showing as open on the phone I accept that the last issue may be more an iphone issue rather than BT but all I can say is it only happens when I'm in the car on BT and never happens anywhere else. I just like to minimise potential stuff that could go wrong and a cable connection seems nice and simple

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
Seems feasible but for me I'm adding to the music on the iPod all the time so would need more housekeeping - ideal solution would be to get the existing iPod working as it does now but I may need to go down the USB or SD card route. My current car has as Sd slot - does the Mk4?

Sounds exactly what I'm looking for thanks

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
Not a fan of wireless, would much prefer a cable. I did actually put all my music on an SD card before and plugged it into the SD slot on the car - but I found when playing music the first second or two of the track would be silent, pretty annoying. The car was brand new and I reported it to the dealer....you can imagine their response lol. If I got a 30 pin - USB adapter, would that work? Does the new Octavian have a "USB in" function?

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
Possibly but you wouldnt get all the album info and full control via the car stereo?

Media In cable for Ipod on Mk4
I have this function as I ordered it specially on my 10 year old Mk3 Octy. It's a special "Media In" socket on the dash that uses a special cable to connect to the old iPod 30 pin (I think). Does anyone know if the same setup is available on the Mk4? If not is there any way to enable an old iPod to play via the car stereo? Wouldnt be overly keen on Bluetooth, would much prefer a wired connection.

Skoda and seat height
I'm considering replacing the 10 year old Octavia estate. One thing I'd say is a show stopper is the seat height (I'm 10 years older 😊) I need the space of the Octy and only options with a higher seat (Kodiaq, Karoq) seem to be about 8-10k more expensive new - seems a lot to pay just for that. Is there any way to order a higher seat for the Octy or even Superb or am I better looking at other manufacturers?

Skoda central "ski slot" between rear seats
My 10 year old Octavia is nearing the end - I would instantly order another one were it not for reliability issues; I've had quite a few... For everything else, including design and ease of driving etc I cant fault the Octy. My sport is fishing and an incredibly useful feature is the central opening in the rear seats which allows easy storage of long rods etc while still allowing 2 x passengers to sit easily So my question is - do any other manufacturers offer this apart from VW/Skoda - most of the other cars out there seem to offer the normal 2/1 split seat folding arrangement which isn't great for my needs.

My reliability report
Was gonna start a new thread but seeing this one and my issues have been similar to the OP, ie over 10 years a great many "unexpected" issues after buying car new, 1.6 TDI - ranging from door handles pulling off (when it was only 1 week old) to now after just 165,000 miles the head gasket is on its' last legs (along with other issues) and I'm being told it's uneconomical to repair so scrappie time... The main reason I bought a new Skoda was RELIABILITY. The car has not delivered this at all IMO. So is the reputation they had for highly reliable cars now a thing of the past? People say the Mark II was the best and with the Mark III things went downhill - anyone know if the Mark IV is any better?

Multiple issues - common cause?
Checked it once and it looks like oil - but the coolant sometimes has little brown flecks in it
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
This sounds very similar to mine although mine is using a lot more coolant. I spoke to a mechanic he says he's very experienced in Skoda and will resolve it but he's not available for a while. Anyone know if it'll do any harm just driving the car around like this and topping up coolant level every few days with anti freeze?
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
Even when cold, loosening the cap almost always results in a little hiss and release of pressure - my mechanic mate says this means the head gasket is on the way out as with a cold engine there should be no escape of pressure. I'm hoping this isn't the case and he's wrong - anyone know?
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
I've only been doing it a few days so I'll monitor going forward - presume the EV cap is the filler cap? Can that cause probs?
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
Yes I was doing that initially but not any more, thanks for the tip.
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
Yes I'm filling almost all the way to the top, a mechanic mate said there's no harm in doing this but I can fill it less if needed.
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
That's very interesting. Boiling coolant out - how does it get out, if the system is sealed? Couple of other observations recently - the coolant tank cap is getting increasingly hard to turn and remove by hand, it is really stiff, especially when cold. I did take the car on a long run last week - around 400km and it only used about 1/4" of coolant - bit odd when most days it needs topped up after less than 100km....
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
Not at all - sitting at a steady 90 degs all the time
-
Multiple issues - common cause?
It does indeed have "mit silica" written on the tank. So that could well explain the crud in the water and driver side heating not working. Could it also explain the coolant loss? I'm really not impressed with Skoda reliability....
