  1. >10 mpg over optimistic on a '07 Fabia vRS. The Mk2 Octavia is only a couple of mpg over optimistic normally.
  2. Crap with summer tyres but a lot better with narrower winters. Had to turn it off when going up some hills with the summers but in sheet ice it was fine with winters as the ultimate grip is better due to the softer compound rubber and sipes. Had terrible problems with my Mk5 Golf Gti equiped with ESP and snow, it was good for keep you in a straight line, cornering and pulling away but it wouldn't stop when braking downhill on fresh snow. Just tobogganed away firing the ESP randomly until I switched it off and a wedge of snow build up in front of the tyres and it stopped. Saved my from the barrier on several other occasions though.
  3. I had a similar problem when I replaced my front wheels with ones off a shopping trolley, the car wouldn't steer until I put a proper set of wheels back on Seriously, as previously stated, your insurance will be invalid unless you have notified them, I notified my insurance company I was putting on skoda permissable winter tyres on and they wanted to bump up my premium just for them.
  4. ARB (anti-roll bar) drop links - slight movement in these can translate into a lot of creaking and knocking.
  5. Yes I used a torque wrench, the torque setting is surprising very low (10-20Nm off the top of my head).
  6. One of mine failed last winter, I replace them with NGK plugs. Dead easy to replace but don't over tighten them, you will also need a long socket.
  7. Do you want to sell it because I will buy it?
  8. Just used my Winter Tact WT81 tyres in anger for the first time, excellent grip both in the snow and sheet ice. Thank you for recommending them Fatbloke.
  9. Could it be a bad batch of fuel? Fuel up and if it is still happening scan it with vagcom for errors.
  10. I would pop the door card off, it becomes immediately obvious where the water is coming from when you do this. Normally water stains can been seen on the door coming from the join between the carrier and the door - if you push the carrier the foam seal normally drips water. Look at the video in is posting and all will become clear - if you are too lazy to look it is here Google is my friend. It is a simple job but make sure you have some replacement clips because they normally break. Like a lot of VAG parts, these have been redesigned and are now easier to pop apart without self destructing with the new design. Watch the video, take the door card off and let us know....
  11. Neither my Fabia or Octavia vRS use any oil between services - I was told when I bought them not to gimmer around, strain the engine at low revs or thrash it for the first 500-1000miles and it seems to have worked. One mechanic told me to rev the PD engine instead of using the torque from new and it will glaze the cylinders and reduce oil burning. Dunno if any of this is true as I thought all engines were bench run in now but it worked for me. I think not giving an engine stick before it has warmed up also helps.
  12. That is 18mpg, sure you didn't fill your expansion tank as well on the refill?

  14. Think ! Diesel is a bit cheaper and it is funny watching other people trying to find where the voice in coming from on the forecourt. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/234484/think_diesel.html Got one on my Fabia to stop me trying to fill mine up with Super UL.
  15. Sorry must have skipped a line when I read your post. Damn eyes are playing up again Does Plumbers Gold actually set like silicone? The gutter sealant has remained tacky after months and it seems to only set as a skin.
  16. Gutter sealant is the same, it will bond to the damp surfaces and never really properly sets inside so the sealant never breaks because it is very flexible.
  17. Did anyone download these manuals as they now have been removed ?
  18. Just got quoted £32.51 inc VAT from TPS. Are some dealers just stocking the long life oil now 507.00 to make more mark up?
  19. Just spoken to AC Delco and the oil listed on there website is incorrect. Nice !
  20. Thanks Guy, Will have to send it back, I understand the extra pressure the injector cam lubes are under.
  21. Ordered some AC Delco Supreme Plus 5W40 synthetic oil after it was advertised as meeting the requirements of VW 505 01. Confirmed this by cross referencing this with the AC Delco website with the engine code but it turned up today and it only meets the requirements of VW 502 00 and VW 505 00 on the can. I am thinking about returning it but wondered if anyone else has seen this before.
  22. Anyone got the part numbers for these bushes please?
  23. So was it 131 quid plus 150 and 100? = 381 quid. Priced up my local independent and the will do it all in at about 280 quid. I have heard that a lot of VW dealers are doing it for 300 quid.
  24. Check your service book, it doesn't mention 4 years or 40k miles anywhere for either of my Skodas. Mine states visual inspection at 60k km and replace cambelt at 120k km for the PD engine and this is backed up with service documentation I have found from Skoda CZ. I noticed someone on this forum from Ireland went into the local skoda dealer asking about cambelt change at 40k miles and they didn't know what they were talking about.
