  1. So heard nothing back on this!! Am not going to chase it obviously, will just have to see what happens, especially if i get anything else done there Cheers for all the advice
  2. Afternoon all My DMF is showing signs of failing (metallic knocking with throttle on when in a high gear from a low rev, e.g. 1100 to 1600 rpm, stops as soon as accelerator is taken off, worse on hills.) Also, starter motor is sticking on at cold starts - is this a symptom of the DMF failing? I was thinking of taking my starter motor off to give it a bit of a clean and at least try to shut that up, and I've heard that you can check for excessive play in the DMF with the starter removed - can anyone tell me how much play is "excessive"? Or how much play I should expect from a good DMF? I'm fairly certain the DMF is on the way out based on what I've read, but am planning a solid flywheel conversion and want to make sure before I start ordering parts (on that note, anyone tried this? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.8_2002/p/car-parts/car-transmission/clutch-and-associated-parts/solid-flywheel-conversion-kit/?633780010&1&1a5b7dbded43aafb8424162ca328b758d21aafb9&000299 ) Also, any thoughts on how long a DMF is likely to last once is starts to go bad? Cheers
  3. Sorry, I know this is an old thread by see it gets revived fairly frequently anyway! My DMF is showing signs of failing (knocking with WOT when in a high gear from a low rev, e.g. 1100 to 1600 rpm, stops as soon as accelerator is taken off. Also, starter motor is sticking on at cold starts - is this a symptom?) On the above comment - can anyone tell me how much play is excessive? I'm planning to take the starter motor off and give it a clean just to see if I can shut it up in the mean time, so was going to check the DMF then. Cheers
  4. Cheers for the advice all, glad you're all thinking the same way as me! Unfortunately I don't have an invoice for them... Which was stupid of me not to get, live and learn though Ill give SUK a call on monday and see where I get with them, and if the dealer phone back ill argue my case and if they don't budge they can have them back.... In a couple of weeks. Thanks all, I'll let you know how I get on
  5. So I started a thread about ID'ing my coil pack issue but thought this would probably be best suited to a new thread I took the car to the dealership yesterday with 1 coil pack failed (type L). I brought up the coil pack replacement campaign, they checked my chassis no. on the system and it showed it as an outstanding recall so agreed to change all four FOC, they did it there and then and they confirmed they were all the old type. Happy days. But then today the dealership phoned to tell me they tried to claim parts against the recall and apparently head office (or whatever it would be) said the campaign was closed and they wouldn't meet the cost of them. The guy I spoke to again confirmed that the four they removed were the old type and affected by the recall. He said he's going to chase it up on Monday and see if anything can be sorted out, but seemed pretty pessimistic... And said if Skoda wouldn't cover the cost, I could either have my old ones put back in (and pay for the failed one I need), or pay for all 4 and keep them. He said he'd do them at a discounted rate of 15% off, and wouldn't charge for the fitting time (too ****ing right). Anyone got any thoughts on this?? I'm pretty sure having the 15% off still makes them more expensive than from other sources, and to be honest, while I know the others may go in the future, I don't really have the best part of £100 to go spending on replacing parts which work perfectly well... But I'm also guessing that because the new coils will have spent 4 days in my car by Monday, they aren't going to be able to re-sell them (or at least shouldn't...) so if I opt for having my old ones back, they'd go in the bin - which could be a good bargaining tool Reckon it's worth coughing up the cash now and just having it done with??
  6. 4 shiny new coil packs fitted this morning, free of charge. Car no longer sounds or feels like a bag of bolts. Cheers all!
  7. I think i've just had a coil pack go - suddenly stuttered, loss of power, flashing CEL and vagcom indicating misfire on cyl 3. Sounds like its running on 3 now and very rough. My question is, should a healthy coil pack make a clicking sound when pulled from the spark plug? With the engine idling I pulled no 2 coil pack and it starting clicking. No 3 does 't do this - I'm hoping that indicates the coil pack is buggered (or i suppose the wiring to it)? Im curious as i put new spark plugs in at the weekend (PFR6Qs replaced with the same) so my initial thought was that if was a dud plug.... Or something... Cheers
  8. Cheers all. I whipped the DV off to give it a test this evening. I prodded the diaphragm up and sealed the vacuum hose hole on the top and the diaphragm stayed up no problem. Also sucked into the vacuum hole and there was no air coming through... All suggest that the DV is OK I think? I hear there are wastegates built into/on the turbo also? Any thoughts on if that could be the issue?
  9. Cheers - is there any simple way to test the DV is working properly?
  10. Hi, I bought a mk1 VRS a few weeks ago, and at first the (OEM) DV made the sort of "tsch" noise I'd expect However it's started making a hollow sounding whoosh noise now, especially when cold. Sounds kind of like blowing across the top of a bottle. Occasionally I get a fluttering sound instead. I'm also getting the 17705 pressure drop fault code - is it likely the DV has had it, or is it possible that a vacuum leak somewhere would cause this? I haven't been able to find a leak yet.. Cheers in advance
  11. sorry, as a noob I haven't got pm yet (haven't even got the car yet, that comes in a week!) would you mind dropping me an email on [email protected] and I'll get back to you?
  12. Picking up my Mk1 Octavia VRS in just over a week...! Already got some bits to sort out on it, I'm sure there'll be plenty more pics and updates in the future! Cheers James
