  1. Sounds about right. Similar situation for me a few weeks ago. Christmas tree of dashboard warning lights turned out to be be 2 x ABS sensors front & back. Expensive bill at independent VAG garage.
  2. Yep. I'll probably hold off on a replacement for a while longer. We are using my wife's Kona EV more & more as it's so much cheaper to run & is easier to get in & out of with my worsening back issues. I've never been a fan of SUV's but they are much better for getting in & out of as you get older.
  3. I got my Superb A/C serviced when the car was last serviced as part of a £1,009 bill!! AC service included fresh / replacement gas, UV dye compressor oil, new pipework O rings & pollen filter (£85+vat). Rest of my bill was for the basic car service (£170+vat), front discs & pads (£260+vat) & 2 x ABS wheel sensors (£326.24+vat). It's 10 years old now so some bigger bills incoming. Advisories on front lower suspension arm bushes, rear coil spring corrosion at common fracture point. I'm thinking about replacing it, maybe with my first lease car. Don't know what I fancy as yet. Maybe an Elroq.
  4. My centre caps are fitted with the optional tape trick as well. Been on for years now because I wasn't sure what diameter my wheel centres were (56,57,58mm) when I ordered replacement caps.
  5. When it came time to sort my wheels out I got my L&K Trinity 19" diamond cut wheels powder coated gloss black to match the car paintwork. Cheaper than getting the wheels refurbed & diamond cut to the original spec & powder coating is a more durable finish. Also makes the car look a bit meaner.
  6. Me also. My old CR170 diesel estate (FWD) was quick but had almost uncontrollable front wheel scrabble in damp / wet conditions, in the dry also if the front wheels were angled for a left / right turn at a junction. This was especially noticeable at roundabouts when you wanted to get into a gap quickly but were left stationary with the font tyres spinning in the wet! It also meant the front tyres took a bit of a beating with replacements fairly frequently at circa 20k intervals. So after 150k miles in my CR170, & with retirement looming, I wanted a smoother petrol 4 x 4 estate. Enter the 280! The 280 has no wet weather tyre scrabble or traction issues whatsoever. Believe me I have tried!! There is / was a bit of DSG hesitation when setting off from a standing start but that can be mitigated a bit by using Sport mode. I had a Revo Stage 1 remap (360bhp) done a few years ago & I have fitted a RaceChip Throttle / pedal box which eliminates any DSG hesitation altogether. The RaceChip box was swapped from my wife's Karoq 1.5 DSG 4 x 4 when we sold it which suffered from terrible DSG take off hesitation. Now the take off & acceleration of the 280 in sport mode is somewhat "savage" which makes it a bit of a hooligan as it hangs on the the gears much higher up the rev band. As you said, in normal Drive mode the torque comes in as a smooth linear progression for more relaxed but equally fast progression which negates the need to use Sport mode in all but exceptional circumstances. By contrast, my wife has a FWD Kona EV which has 201bhp & 291 lbft (395Nm) of torque. It's quick but even in Normal drive mode in the dry in a straight line the front tyres struggle for grip. In Sport mode it's almost undrivable in the wet. My wife went through the front tyres in 13k miles! It's now set in Eco mode which eliminates the tyre scabble & it's still plenty quick enough. The current model 64kWh Kona EV's have the same 201bhp power but a reduced amount of torque (188 lbft / 255Nm)! I wonder why? Not sure I could go back to a higher power 2WD car now?
  7. Exactly why I bought a 280 L&K Estate & it still scares the bejesus out of first time passengers. 😇
  8. Even faster if it's been chipped!!
  9. One of life's mysteries. Hope you find it 🤞. Just like when I went to use my Superb jack the other day to raise our heavy sofa to replace the screw in legs & couldn't find the handle for the jack. The one that is articulated in the middle. Not in my boot or anywhere I looked in the garage. Can't for the life of me think where it could be. Last time I used it was when I tried jacking up my wife's EV (no jack or spare) & failed miserably because it was too heavy!! I had to order a new handle, together with an electric drill jack adapter socket, from Amazon.
  10. Ditto. I've always used Tesco Momentum 99RON in mine (supposedly better than Shell V-Power in independent tests). No shortage where I am. In fact I filled up the other day at £1.46p / litre when they had run out of Diesel completely & some of the 95RON unleaded pumps were also taped off. The 280 definitely performs better & has lower fuel consumption with 99. I think I've only used 95RON on a couple occasions in 8 years when on holiday & couldn't find any 99RON.
  11. I did the same a while ago for my 2016 Superb. My bag looked Ok too but not worth taking the chance of it splitting.
  12. What fitting type are they? H8 & H11 seem to be mentioned on different web sites & that link has both types?
  13. What bulbs did you use & what was the access like?
  14. 👍I did exactly the same a year or so ago. I couldn't figure out where a really annoying rattling noise was coming from. Turned out it was my sunglasses in the sunglasses holder. As temp fix I used some small form bubble wrap which seemed to do the trick & later replaced it with some leftover sticky backed felt from when I lined our old Karoq door bins.
  15. Don't go back to that MOT centre!! My 280 is coming up 10 years as well. 65k & all is well except I've lost my Blind Spot Monitoring - probably something to do with me fiddling around trying to find a suitable fuse to piggy back my Dash Cam onto. Think it may have actually fallen out of the terminals cos the dash cam has packed up as well. If it stops raining I will get out there & drop the glove box to have a look. Might be a while!!
  16. Been thinking about getting mine pro cleaned, detailed & ceramic coated. Always cleaned my own cars but older age & mobility issues are making it more difficult to get on my hands & knees to get stuff done. Hopefully with a ceramic coating (or similar) it should just need a foam, pressure wash & rinse with pure water to keep it looking it's best.
  17. No water marks 🤞. I use non-acid wheel cleaner (Bilt-Hamber Auto Wheel cleaner). Good stuff.
  18. Mine badly need a clean inside & out. I powder coated my 19" Trinity alloys gloss black a couple of years ago. Matches the body colour, easier to clean & hides the brake dust better. They've lasted longer than the original finish which & had refurbished a couple of times over the years. I'm just terrified of kerbing them. That said powder coating worked out cheaper than refurbishing & diamond cutting the originals.
  19. I finally kicked the habit after 45 years some 10 years ago. I was never a heavy smoker but a combination of willpower & 0% nicotine vapes got the job done. I'm off the the vapes as well now. When I was smoking I always had the drivers window open to exhaust the smoke & ash. Not sure if it made a huge difference because smokers can't seem to smell smoke!! Then my company banned us from smoking in company cars so I had to stop smoking in the car which hastened my decision to pack it in & get a private car to avoid company car tax. Only downside of not smoking was the weight gain, due to an enhanced appetite!! Not sure I could even afford to smoke these days!!
  20. That price is more than strong!! 🫨 I filled up with Tesco 99RON Momentum last week & I think it was £1.47p/litre. I haven't used a BP station since my local one was involved in a bank / credit card PIN number scam. A camera in the ceiling above the card machine was reading people's PIN's as they paid for their fuel & purchases at the till. Money was being taken out of their accounts or used to pay for items elsewhere in the world. First I heard about it was when my bank rank me & asked if was currently in India? I wasn't so they had picked up the suspicious transactions. Not saying BP were knowledgeable as it was probably the staff acting alone but the damage was done I far as I was concerned. I didn't lose any money because my bank covered the amounts withdrawn. That was 20+ years ago. Haven't used or visited a BP since.
  21. MoT due on my 280 next Monday.🤞 Should be OK. Only a few thousand miles since the last one. I'll do the usual checks this weekend but not expecting any surprises.
  22. Slow loss of coolant is probably water pump leaking. It's a common fault on this engine. My low coolant level light came on a few years ago. I topped it up & it took another 4 months to trigger the alarm again. I looked but couldn't see or find a coolant leak anywhere. I had it checked over when it went in for it's annual service at my local independent VAG specialist & they confirmed it had a leak so it was a new water pump, seal & other bits to sort the problem. Not a cheap repair either. Main dealers charge over £1,000. I think mine cost around £750. Be prepared for a big bill!!
  23. Our Zappi has an an EV ultra extra tuff cable which has extra coms cables inside for CT's with the main conductor cables. However, after having problems with WiFi signal & dropouts I've connected my Zappi charger, Eddi (solar diverter) & Solar Inverter/battery system direct to my router via a separate CAT6 ethernet cable & 4-way plug & play ethernet switch. I ran a cable from the router through the front porch in some mini trunking & into my attached garage to the ethernet switch. Then wired up each device back to the switch. Made off & crimped all the RJ45 connectors by hand myself so the cable runs are nice & neat with hardly any slack coiled up anywhere. Works a treat & so much more reliable than Wifi. Also future proof if I want to change my router / broadband supplier in the future in that no reprogramming of passwords will be needed for any of the directly connected devices.
  24. I can't advise on the Elroq per se as we don't have one. However, my 2p worth is of the two, Elroq & EX30, I would go for the Elroq. The EX30 doesn't have a driver display or any buttons because everything is on or in the central tablet screen thingy, ala Tesla's. The boot & rear legroom are much smaller than the Elroq as well. As for tariffs & home charging, my wife has a Hyundai Kona 64kWh (our 1st EV) which we charge at home overnight on a Zappi charger & Octopus Intelligent Go tariff. 25p/kWh during the day (don't use much as we have solar & batteries) & 7p/kWh overnight from 11.30pm till 5.30am plus cheap rate offers outside of the cheap rate times as & when advised. We hammer the overnight cheap rate tariff charging the car as needed to 80%, charging the LFP house batteries to 100% (20kWh) & running any appliances that can be delay timed to come on overnight. The granny charger "should" come with the car. Same for the main type 2 charging cable. Our Kona came with both cables but we've not used either because our Zappi came with a tethered cable attached to it. And yes you will have to pay extra for the charger which must be installed by a qualified electrician. You may also have to have your main house fuse upgraded to take the extra kW / amp drawn through the mains cable. We had to have a bigger 80amp main fuse installed by our DNO. However, check with Skoda as to what cables come with the car as standard. Note that you will not be able to access any special EV tariffs unless you have a proper 7.4kW home charger / wall box. A granny charger can only charge at 3kW on it's 3 pin plug (not recommended & cannot be used on an extension lead either) so will take twice as long to charge any car than a proper wall box charger. e.g. A 48kW car battery would take 16hrs to charge from 0-100% with a 3kW granny charger (longer than any cheap overnight tariffs) vs 6.4hrs on a 7.4kW wall box charger. We tend to charge our Kona to 80% overnight when it gets down to 20-30% of charge so it can easily be charged in the cheap rate 6hr window. Never yet had to charge it to 100% for any longer journeys. Check the Octopus website for your address / area to see what cars & chargers are compatible with their EV Intelligent Go tariff & what the prices are. My understanding is that as long as the charger is compatible you are good to go even if the car isn't. In our case the Zappi & Kona are both compatible with the Octopus system which takes over control of the car charging when it's plugged in at home. We haven't used a public car charger in nearly 3 years of ownership as the Kona can easily do 280+ miles on a full charge. TBH I would throw up at the thought of having to pay 70p/kWh or more at a public charger when I only pay 7p when charging overnight at home!! If we plan to go on a trip that's longer than the Kona can manage or there's no "cheap" destination charging available, we'll take my Superb which has far more space for luggage anyway. As an aside, we are looking to change my wife's Kona soon & are waiting for the new Skoda Epiq to break cover. Smaller & cheaper than the Elroq & similar in size to the Kona we have but with a bigger boot. Almost a "Goldilocks" car for my wife's requirements. If we do it, it will probably be our first ever lease car as well since previously we have always bought used cars. Happy hunting.
