  1. Seems to be a good opportunity for somebody with Kenyan contacts to import flowers, veg and fruit directly from Kenya. In the case of flowers you could cut out the Dutch middlemen so the product would be cheaper for the UK public. I doubt that a roll over deal with Kenya would be any problem, sounds like a nice little earner for somebody. The UK should be looking ten years in the future not a couple of months.
  2. Japan withdrawing car production back home might sound good on paper but they, like the UK, are suffering from an ageing population. If you add in the strong immigration laws they have i n Japan then they just do not have the work force to expand the industry to a great extent. Sensibly they have manufacturing bases in countries where they sell a lot of cars like the US. If the market in Europe is not big enough to justify having manufacturing there then they will close their factories. Considering the larger countries in the EU are quite partisan when buying cars and the reducing tariffs on Japanese cars then these factories could be in trouble. Time will tell on that one but I do know that GM were looking at shutting down their entire loss making European operation. Cost of making that number of employees redundant made it cheaper to continue running the operation at a loss than closing it.
  3. Roll Over deals have been agreed with a number of African countries what produce they ship to the EU at present I do not know. The UK would have to expand this trade, the number of countries and carry it out independently of the EU.
  4. No the UK can not feed itself but relies on imported food stuffs. Dairy, meat and some veg would not be a problem.
  5. Nope African countries already produce very good produce and trade with them should be expanded, call it regional development.
  6. Milk is being held to a low price and UK producers have long complained about this. Do not know if the subsidies they receive compensate for this or whether French dairy producers get higher subsidies under the CAP. I would happily pay more more for my dairy produce when and if these subsidies go. Lot of UK sheep farmers are going to be in trouble if imports of NZ lamb start arriving tariff free. Quality UK lamb and beef doesn't appear to be available far from the areas where they are produced. Always used to bring back delicious Welsh lamb when ever I visited Wales and the beef North of the border is superb.
  7. All about the French being on strike or working to rule. They have done it before and it will only get worse they are just wielding the big stick. Time to get our food imported from reliable sources on reliable shipping, that means not being in the EU.
  8. I can easily do my weekly shopping and not buy a single item from the EU. Fresh meat and veg - farm shop fresher, tastes better, lasts longer and locally sourced. Fish I catch myself or buy direct and freeze. Bread, cheese and milk from the UK. The only thing I knowing buy from the EU is Lurpak butter because I prefer it and HP sauce. Beer is UK or Mexican, wine from the New World. Canned goods often have suitably vague country of origin labels on so they stay in the store. I prefer to eat seasonal veg so do not miss tasteless Spanish lettuce in the Winter or any time of the year plus I don't like EU approved modern slavery working in the Spanish poly tunnels. No I don't shop in Aldi/ Lidl so avoid a lot of EU stuff that way, used to until I found that some of their veg on sale were two days past their shelf life.
  9. Always fed my dogs on raw meat with no problems, UK law says that the meat must come from a human grade source I don't feed road kill. A dogs mouth is a breeding ground for various bacteria as is a human mouth so always be careful when young children are in the house and I believe some US states banned raw fed dogs from being used as therapy dogs. I always clear up after my dogs and detest people who don't. They should run the same tests on French cheeses.
  10. Staying in the existing customs union would not constitute a clean Brexit , negotiating a new customs relationship with the EU can now only be done when we leave and indeed would be desirable. Rejoining would be a decision the UK public would have to make in the future. I do not have a crystal ball and neither does anybody else.
  11. Cheese for cars will not be 0% tariff on cars for a few years yet. 10% for EU and UK til next February and Honda will have a rather diminished market share IMO. Don't have a crystal ball but I will look forward to a Hard Brexit, May's tame solicitor has acknowledged that her WA will tie us into a customs union with the EU ad infinitum or so the BBC said.
  12. No official statement but Mr Tomlinson said: "Today we have spoken to the Business Secretary & Honda, and will be speaking with the Prime Minister later today. "Honda have been very clear – this decision has been made because of global trends and is not related to Brexit. The Turkey factory will also close as all European market production is being consolidated to Japan where the company is based. "This consolidation is made easier by the new EU-Japan trade deal which will allow Honda to produce their cars in Japan and import them into the EU, rather than produce the cars in Europe." Have to wait for Honda's statement.
  13. Better still tell me how much industry has been stripped from the UK prior to the Brexit Referendum.
  14. Very sad to see a car factory close, I was there when the Vauxhall Luton plant closed in 2000. Long walk up the hill to the car park on the workers last day. "There is no valid reason for there to be any talk of this plant closing. It is yet another example of how companies see the UK as an easy place to sack worker." Tony Woodley, TGWU union
  15. UK only Honda factory in the EU , factories in China, USA and lots of others. So price of EU produced cars sold in the UK will increase by 10% , price of Japanese cars will not change in the UK or the EU until next year when the EU tariffs start to drop. EU produced cars are going to take a big hit and I know where I will be shopping. Cheddar cheese will still cost the same in Japan unless the EU start badge engineering.
  16. I thought the inflation rate was at 1.8% but no worries.
  17. I certainly bow to his far more extensive knowledge of EU law than I have or ever will have. Didn't the UK already veto such a proposal in the past? Not sure but I think so. The M&M treaty would not need any attention from the UK because we will not be in the EU. The EU 25 will do what they are told. I must admit the fact that the EU 2 can make such a treaty without going through all the EU legal stuff is a bit odd. https://www.politico.eu/article/angela-merkel-emmanuel-macron-eu-army-to-complement-nato/ https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/nov/13/merkel-joins-macron-in-calling-for-a-real-true-european-army
  18. Not at all and just what was the date of that video? Mrs Merkel said something quite different and she is the Boss.
  19. Either May is playing her own game or she is incredibly stupid. Army put on standby, martial law etc in case of civil unrest due to a no deal Brexit. What a crock! The only chance of any civil unrest is if she revokes Article 50. No way is that WA of hers going to be agreed by Parliament and she knows it.
  20. Over here we call them "Chelsea Tractors" usually used for the school run and driven by those most likely to have or cause accidents, 35 year old women with two kids in the back or 97 year old Dukes.
  21. Only the names remain original Land Rovers were pretty good but antiquated lost a lot of market to Toyota and Nissan. Ford started the real rot along with what they did with Volvo. Indian money and Chinese car building expertise sounds like a marriage made in Hell.
  22. Irony is that JLR are no longer a British car company and the quality problems are in Chinese manufactured cars not that JLR have ever made a reliable car anyway.
  23. Cuckoo clocks actually come from the Black Forest region not Switzerland. 32 billion quids worth of trade is not to be sniffed at plus both the UK and Switzerland share a common interest in pharmaceuticals and high tech engineering. I expect a lot more deals will be arranged in the next 6 weeks deal or no deal.
  24. Hopefully we will not have to elect anybody but if we extend Article 50 then we may very well see the re-election of a certain Mr Farage as an MEP.
