  1. Thanks for the kind comments. it was a car I’d always wanted since seeing one just after they came out so it’s been great to own one and seeing as I’ve had it 5 years longer than any other car (including a mk2 golf 16v) I definitely made the right decision buying it. It’s up for £1895, so somewhere in that region. Seems like a fair price given what’s they seem to go for on Autotrader.
  2. Glad you’ve enjoyed my rambling and it’s even been helpful!
  3. The Car is now in the classifieds. I've put the main pics in the Ad but there a few coming up showing more detail of the worst cosmetic bits.
  4. It is a bit but hopefully the next owner will love it as much as I have and make it even better.
  5. View Advert Sold - mods please delete. Thanks I’ve owned this car for 7 years but lack of use and just fancying a change means it’s time to move on. It’s been a brilliant family workhorse that has never let us down even on long trips to Cornwall and West Wales. The car has a full service history and 3 previous owners and comes with two working keys. The mileage is just over 126000 and won’t be going up much with use hence selling it. The MOT is until May 18 2022 mechanically it’s spot on and drives brilliantly. The only issue is the SAI system sometimes puts the EML on (code 16795). I just delete the code as I didn’t want to do the whole SAI delete/resistor thing. It in no way affects the running of the car. Electrically, everything (windows ,air con etc) works as it should. cosmetically I suppose it is what it is for a well looked after 17 year old car. the body work is totally dent free and there are no major scratches but there are a fair few top paint layer stone chips to the front end. the worst bits cosmetically are as follows. - bottom passenger side front bumper has a bit of damage where I made a rare error of judgement parking head on to a curb. - there is a bit of touched up rust to the tailgate either end of the numberplate plinth. - both front wheel arches next to the mud flaps is showing a bit of rust but just surface. - there is a bit of paint burn in the corner of the bonnet. No idea what happened here as it was always like that. - the wheels are pretty grotty to varying degrees but nothing you wouldn’t expect. I’ll put pics of this damage/wear and tear in my main thread in the other forum. Again, my main thread has a detailed list of what’s been done in my ownership if you want to have a look but below are some highlights. 16/01/2018 - 106926 - suspension shocks , springs (H&R -20mm) , topmounts and associated bushes. 18/07/2018 - 110870 - clutch 17/02/2020 - 122996 - cambelt & water pump 04/06/2020 - 124113 - 4 x tyres. (Goodyear F1 asymmetric 5) - still have 7mm tread all round. 05/08/2020 - 124809- New Genuine Skoda Exhaust. 19/04/2021 - 125766 - front brake pads, discs and callipers the car is for the most part in standard order apart form the following modifications. -20mm H&R springs Golf aero wipers (originals available) rear wiper delete (I gave up after a few replacements but still have the parts if required) all the breather hoses replaced with silicone ones. head unit/speakers replaced I think that’s it, thanks. sorry if I’ve missed anything but all questions are welcome. 6. Well, the time has come and I’ve decided it’s time to move on and sell up. I’ve had 7 good years with this car and it’s served us well as the family workhorse doing it all without ever letting me down. I’m doing hardly any mileage now as we’ve got my partners car for family duties now which is better as it means I don’t have to do all the driving whenever we go on hols in the uk. She’d never drive this as it’s “to big and scary”. I’ve never owned a car for more than 2 years before and even though I’m not a sentimental man I think this might be a wrench as I’ve loved owning this car. Anyway, I’ll be giving it a scrub up later today and then sticking a warts and all add up in the classifieds.
  7. Thanks. I don’t mind subtle modifications but with this car I do have resale at some point in the back of my mind. It’s already becoming a bit impractical to keep as we don’t need it as the main family car anymore and I only did a about 2k miles last year and even when things are back to normal I can’t see me doing more than 4k this year. I do still get in it and it feels really good to drive so it’s staying for now. Also, I would be a bit sceptical about buying a heavily modified 20 year old car. There have been a few horrible messes on auto trader recently and I think prices for good ones have bottomed out now.
  8. Well that was fun. Talk about awkward. I took the scuttle off easily enough but getting it to sit flush to the windscreen when putting it back was a right ball ache. Got there in the end. I think the swearing at it helped. It needed doing tho’ and hopefully will mean less condensation inside the windscreen next winter. The new one is like a grey felt. I think the old one was originally white.
  9. I can’t remember if the top of my head but it was between £400-500 I think.
  10. So, MOT. Failed on a couple of tiny things. Headlamp aim and a worn suspension bush. cheap fix for a 13 month MOT? yeah, no. while it was in there being sorted I asked them to have a look at my squeaky front brakes as although they passed the MOT ok there was definitely an issue somewhere. both back plates were like rusty sieves allowing crap to get everywhere and after the callipers were stripped for cleaning they found the pistons were heavily pitted. New callipers it is then. At least it’s all good now and one less thing to worry about.
  11. More small not exciting things. I’ve been missing one of the plastic grommet things from my scuttle panel for I don’t know how long so decided to finally rectify that. It looked a bit odd at first but a coat of meguires black plastic stuff and it’s all good. When I’ve got time and it’s nice and warm I also have a new pollen filter to fit. I’ve been avoiding doing it in the cold as I want to reduce the chance of snapping the scuttle, and I don’t like being cold. MOT time on Monday too. I’ve only done 3k miles since the last one so hopefully no new issues will arise.
  12. I just ordered one of those from skodaparts. two left in the country now apparently.
  13. Amazingly competent cars. We've done South Yorkshire to Devon, Cornwall, South Wales fully loaded a few times now. Every time i me I think of selling up I just end up going back to "what for?". I'm not even bored with it yet.
