  1. Hi Folks. Not been on the site for a couple of years now, ( VW and Volvo experience). Purchased our Octavia in January this year from local main dealers and having read some problems that owners have experienced I thought I might add a couple more. I have had the problem of not being able to revert to E Mode when in Hybrid and this when almost stopped and battery well charged, and also "Front Assist not available". I also find that "lane assist"is too severe, having been directed towards the rear of a parked Golf. It was parked in a cycle lane and I can only assume that Lane Assist was confused probably by the broad white demarcation line. However onto my main reason for adding my "two pennorth". Returned from a short trip in hybrid mode and parked the car in the drive. Some 3.5 hrs later I went out to the car to go on a short trip. pressed the start button and the car went into what I can only describe as a high revs sound although not the engine. This confused me a bit but I did notice that, having pressed the mode button the car was showing as being in hybrid .I kept my foot on the footbrake and selected reverse, there was no drive also no drive in forward . I pressed the stop button and the problem stopped. I pressed to restart and everything was hunky dory, I continued with my journey. This happened last Sunday and I reported it on the Monday. Unfortunately the local dealer cannot fit me in until May 11 ( while I wait appointment)and advised if it happened again to call out Skoda assist. Guess what, on Wednesday the same thing happened although there was a message on the dash that said "Maximum Revs"and I also noticed that there were no engine revs. Turned it off and rang Skoda Assist where I explained the problem. They did not have an AA man available but would send one of the men that they use. I insisted on the AA and they organised a visit the following morning. The AA chap tried his diagnostic device but to no avail , it didn't go "deep" enough, and the warnings were lost when the stop button was pressed. AA man tried to get me in to main dealer for a diagnostic but no joy. I think a mechanic with EV experience has recently left. Well, thats it chaps, thought I would throw it into the mix. Regards Bob Simpson
  2. Can anyone tell me at what rate the supplied charger charges at. Thankyou
  3. Hi Folks. Went to order our Octavia iV estate last week, to be told there was a waiting time of up to 6 months. However some were being released by Skoda and if they were not what customers had ordered ie specs, colour etc. the dealer would contact us. Early the following week we were contacted by the dealer, they had one in the standard colour {blue} but it had park assist. We were not bothered about this addition. but the dealer would do it as a freeby.  Early to mid December for delivery, looking forward to it.

  4. Reference my enquiry about DSG gearbox update. Booked car in today for m.o.t etc and asked the service manager about the update. His reply was that they have no information on it's content, the car is plugged in and hey presto. I was asked if I wanted it doing and there was no charge. The update was recorded in the service handbook under "Workshop Entries". Thanks chaps.
  5. Thanks everyone for your replies. Car due for service near end of month so will query the boot sticker and the update. Cheers
  6. Hi Folks Just had some work done on my Fabia Estate 1.2 TSI DSG (2013) and the dealers have done a software update on the gearbox. It is titled - 34h5 gearbox control unit software update, Criterion 01. Anyone out there no what this changes/adjusts etc. Thankyou.
  7. Thanks Nathanio for your reply. Did you have to "gap" the plugs or were they correct on purchase. Do you know what the gap is. Cheers. Bob.
  8. Hi Folks How do you DSG gearbox owners drive your car. Do you prefer the fully automatic select D and forget, or do you drive the car "tiptronically", or a mixture of both. I have owned my car for about six weeks now and for short local runs I am getting about 34 mpg using fully automatic. However, on occasions I do select tiptronic and it is surprising how quickly the mpg rises. On my journey home from picking up the vehicle I averaged 45 mpg with a good 75% of the journey being motorway with motorway speeds. When driving tiptronically how do you approach junctions or roundabouts etc. Do you change down through the box to 2nd or to 4th and let the gearbox select the lower gear to start off or do you select auto to set off and then select tiptronic. I have noticed that the car changes down quite early in full auto but when tiptronic it will continue to pull a gear for longer. It will be interesting to hear your comments on your DSG driving styles. One other thing. The vehicle has done 21000 miles and there is no record of spark plug changes. I have no experience.of misfire etc, but the car needs to turn over a couple of times before it fires. Is this normal or an early sign of spark plug "wear". The vehicle is under Skoda warranty till the end of June so I will stick to Skoda parts. I have not changed spark plugs for donkeys years, do these leads just pull off or is there anything special to do or to look out for. Skoda will charge about £110 to supply and fit new plugs. Cheers Bob.
  9. Thanks KenONeill. I thought that was probably the case but have not owned a petrol car for 15+ years and things have changed a lot. Bob
  10. Hi Folks Travelling down to main dealers at Yeovil on Friday to pick up 2013 Fabia 1.2 105 estate. Buying this car unseen, apart from pictures which is what I did for my present Skoda. Six hour drive home so I will have an opportunity to get used to the dsg gearbox, and a petrol engine which I have not owned for 15 years. Must remember when filling up. Fair old trip but my requirements, 13 reg...£8000 max...Elegance Estate...105 tsi...and DSG cut down my options of available cars. Whilst not looking for, this car comes with Amundsen sat nav, and electric windows all round, so that was a bonus. Reading through the topics on the web site I came across threads about changing coils, and that on this car there are four of them. Is this a service item or do we only change when they fail, if so is this a common problem. As I have my present car to sell and will need it to remain insured for, hopefully, a test drive by the prospective buyer, I purchased 24 hr fully comp insurance to cover me on my trip home. £19 for the day which includes RAC breakdown cover with Aviva which I thought was pretty reasonable, 1600hrs Fri to 1600 hrs Sat. I will update after my trip. Bob
  11. Retrieved my VIn code. The vehicle is not subject to any recalls. Thanks GoneOffSKI . Bob
  12. Thanks GoneOffSKI. I contacted the service dept at the main dealers where I am picking up the car next week. He said that my car was not included in any service campaign. However, I will use the link you sent me when I have the car. I do not have the vin code at the moment. Bob
