  1. As a vRS TSI DSG owner myself, I am very much looking forward to hearing more from Telboy about how his new weapon is performing in terms of real world pace and drivability! Presumably you have to ease the throttle in gently in first and second gears to avoid wheelspin in a fwd car with that kind of power at your disposal... Despite clearly being an approximation which does not take into account various factors such as aerodynamic drag, this 0-60 calculator gives a surprisingly accurate estimation of 0-60 times based upon kerb weight, bhp, drive type and transmission type. Useful if you want to get a feel for what a remap or tuning box will do for your 0-60 acceleration times. http://www.060calculator.com
  2. This morning on my commute to work the Columbus unit turned itself off inexplicably. It had operated flawlessly prior to that, so I'm hoping it was a one off glitch. Anyone else had this type of issue?
  3. It is admittedly only slight. Having looked at another I think they're all the same.
  4. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48461754/Lean.jpg Still looks like it leans to me. But then so does the photo that Smeghead posted (leaning to the right). I guess I'll have to get used to it...
  5. So I picked up my new vRS TSI DSG hatchback (RHD) on Thursday. All-in-all I'm very happy with it indeed! I will post photos and a review when I get a bit of time. One slightly odd thing I noticed is that the entire instrument cluster (tachometer, maxidot & speedo) seems to be a few degrees off horizontal with the speedo being higher than the revcounter. This is most noticeable if looking at the vertical sides of the maxidot screen which rather than being aligned vertically, are leaning to the left. Is this how they all are or is it just mine? I imagine they all must be the same, but I can't imagine why they would be angled in this way. If this is by design, I imagine the LHD models would be leaning in the other direction. Can anyone shed any light or at least confirm that theirs is aligned in the same way?
  6. Quite surprised that it doesn't automatically change when the clocks go forward/back. My 2007 Honda Civic did that faultlessly.
  7. So what are you running on yours at the moment Parsey? From memory you had a DTUK box and then switched to a remap? How have you found the car handles with the extra performance?
  8. I'm currently awaiting a new vrs tsi hatch via DriveTheDeal. They have been very good to deal with and even helped me out by calling the dealer when there was a mix up about the finance rate over which I had reached a stalemate with the dealer. DTD called them up straight away and managed to secure favourable terms. I placed my order in early August and was told to expect a 14 week wait. 10 weeks later, it all seems to be running to time, I was called last Wednesday to let me know that the car has now been built and that I'll get another call when it arrives at the port in Grimsby in 2 to 3 weeks time. The DTD prices are cash prices, if like me you wish to secure finance via the dealer, you may be offered either a smaller discount and a competitive rate or a large discount and a higher rate. I ended up agreeing to a 6.9% APR deal with a discount of a shade under £4k. Only downside I can see is having to travel a long way to pick up the car. They pass your details to the dealership with which they managed to agree the biggest discount, which could be anywhere in the country. If you pay in cash I think they deliver to your home, but if you want finance, you have to travel to the dealership to sign the papers and pick up the car. For me it is a 150 mile journey which I will take on the train. The journey home should be a lot more fun though. Of course you could try negotiating with a few of your local Skoda dealers to see if any will match or come close to the DTD price...
  9. Coming from a Civic 2.2 CDTi, I think the petrol vrs should be plenty quick enough for me for a while. I actually test drove the vrs TDI to begin with, but it was less punchy than I had hoped, which was why I sampled the TSI and my heart was won over. I suppose if I do start getting bored in a couple of years I could always get a Revo map.
  10. Thanks for your input Keith. Dare I ask what happened after 12000 miles? Sounds ominous. Or did the novelty just wear off?
  11. Thanks both for the advice! I've only ever driven autos on hire cars and the demo vrs at the dealers. In my mind I had imagined that when accelerating there was a fixed rpm at which the up-shift occurs. Perhaps one of the differences between sport, normal and eco would be this rpm trigger point. From your comments philbes, it sounds like it is more complex/sophisticated than this though! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
  12. Having ordered a brand new car for the first time in August, I'm eagerly awaiting my race blue vrs tsi dsg hatch, which should be ready to pick up first week of November. Can anyone tell me what (if any) precautions I should take in terms of running in the engine? I heard the revs should be kept below 3000 rpm for the first 500 miles, but for an auto transmission, I guess you could only achieve this by putting it in manual mode, which surely most people don't do! Any recommendations? Thanks.
  13. Hello, first time post from me having recently ordered my first Skoda (a race blue Octavia vRS TSI Hatchback). My question is, after purchasing a brand new Skoda, is there likely to be a big difference between the level of service you will receive at the dealership from which you placed the order and all the other Skoda dealers in the UK? The reason I ask is I ordered through the broker site DriveTheDeal and the dealership is 4 hours drive away from where I live! If I want help with little things (such as silencing the sound generator for example) are they more likely to charge for everything? Cheers, Alex
  14. I saw told my week 41 built car would be ready at the dealership in the first of November! Hopefully that is not a fiction and yours arrives earlier than you expect too!
