WARNING! Bosch oil filters for 1.2 tsi EA111 CBZA/CBZB engines
Sorry to revive this discussion. Just received a replacement filter from ECP and I remembered scrolling by this thread. See attached - black filter from ECP vs silver one currently fitted. Am I right in saying this is the incorrect one and I should exchange this for a MANN filter instead? Mine is a CBZB 1.2TSI

Removing Foglamp blanks on a Face-lift Mk2
I’m halfway through a retro fit too (will finish that one day…). It’s a mk2 2011 - think the facelift differs slightly to the OG mk2. it took a lot of brute force. Remove the two small blanker panel bits on the wide section of lower grill first (these just pull out, left one took some oomph on mine), then stick your arm in, and feel for a plastic tab behind the fog light blanker. once you sacrifice some knuckles and a chunk of flesh from your lower arm, the blankets should release relatively easily.

Heavy Power Steering
Had this happen and it was the pump on its way out - changing the fluid wouldn’t hurt, also check the battery - if it’s not holding a good charge it could be a symptom, though by the sounds of it I would hazard a guess it is the pump throwing a wobbly. I was fortunate and grabbed a pump off a scrap fabia, same part number and low mileage - was about £25, £90 fitted with fluid change (this was about 5 years ago and local benevolent scrappy & mechanic)

Retrofitting fog lights
Thanks for this - I'll post when i get chance to look at it properly. Theres an additional question - the loom from ebay only has wiring for the actual fog lamps, not the DRLs. Any recommendations for that? I know its a p21w bulb, but not sure if it'll be a bit of a DIY job?

Fog light blanks
Got there in the end - just needed some brute force!

Fog light blanks
Anyone any tips for removing these on a 2011? Got the small piece out from the centre of the grille but cannot for the life in me work out how to get the fog light blanks free. thanks!

Retrofitting fog lights
Legend. yeah mine is registered may 2011 so should be included. thanks!

Retrofitting fog lights
Yeah this was my thought too. The listing was specifically for the 5J so a little concerned by that. I’ve asked if they have Skoda specific instructions etc. Is there somewhere I could find the pin out of the BCM? Or could a member with factory fitted fogs share where the fog loom is connected up?

Retrofitting fog lights
Hi folks, I'm aware this topic has come up a few times in the past. I've trawled those topics but don't think i've seen details of any particular installations. I've got a hold of a set of fog-lights (https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/aftermarket-front-fog-lamp-475780091) and I've bought a wiring kit from fleabay (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265135584029) They've sent through the attached wiring instructions but I could do with some tips from more experienced members! I assume I need to do some VCDS poking too in order to get them working - also just realised i'll need a new switch... Thanks EN Anschlussleitung Kabelsatz NSW.pdf

Drum/Cylinder replacement
Sorry for the slow reply! Thanks for all the replies, really informative. Yeah gonna shop around, I’m happy doing most of my own work but cautious of brakes although I should probably get over that and learn sometime. I didn’t like the lack of pricing either, although I think it was pure laziness more than malice. Will speak to the garage I usually use who have done good work in the past and see what they say.

Drum/Cylinder replacement
Hi all, just been in to the garage for brake fluid change & inspection as I was getting a lot of brake travel before any bite, found the right rear cylinder is leaking a bit. Got to take her back in during the week for replacement - the fella couldn’t give me a price, said he’d price up before doing the job as the suppliers are all shut. anyone know roughly how much this work should be costing? Just want a rough idea! Cheers :)

Rear wiper died
That’s interesting. I recently had some “possessed” number plate light behaviour (long story but obviously something not right but currently seems to have sorted itself). Doing some bits in a couple of weeks so will have to take a look I guess! Just nipped to the shop this morning and I must’ve left the stalk in the on position - rear wiper squeaked into life when the car started, so looks like a funny gremlin for sure.

Rear wiper died
Hello all, heading down the m6 last night and noticed my rear wiper had stopped. Pushed the stalk and the jet works but the wiper isn’t wiping. No motor noise etc when engaged. Haven’t checked anything yet, but thought it’d be wise to gather ideas of what to check, likely culprits etc. will start by checking the fuse. Any other suggestions much appreciated 😁

Good replacement appleplay/bluetooth radio
I fitted an RDC330+ from eBay with no trouble. Needed an adapter for the radio aerial but that’s all! It’s a great headunit and CarPlay works well.

Judder and lurch going into second - DSG7
Hi, thanks for the advice. It’s the 7 speed dsg on a 2011 fabia. It only has about 48,000 miles on the clock. For info too, it’s fine if I set off in manual mode, only in D does it do the judder (which is quite violent)

Judder and lurch going into second - DSG7
Hi, past few days the first time the DSG shifts into 2nd after starting the engine it seems to judder and jump but then be completely fine through the rest of the gears, including dropping back to 1st a stop before moving off again. any ideas what this could be? Praying it’s not the clutch but not sure what else it could be?

Power Assisted Steering Failing
By no means an expert but the failure pattern sounds like when my PAS pump was on its way out (albeit on my mk2). It would generally work fine after a cold start but would fail soon after - everything else on the car ok. Found a decent quality replacement from local scrap and problem solved.

HT/Spark Plug leads
Hi folks, a while back i had an AA call out while ironically dropping my dad off to get his motor back from some repairs. Cylinder 3 was misfiring and AA just replaced the no. 3 lead with one the fella had in the van. It was way too long and annoyed me being messy 😛 long story short, the other day I thought I’d noticed a couple of misses, nothing drastic but eyebrow raising. Bought some new leads (NKG) and replaced - running smooth as butter now. I noticed the number four lead (the one annoying one behind the turbo heat shield) had burned through the outermost layer of insulation. Seen a few threads saying the original leads were more prone to this than new ones. was surprised at the fact the engine seemed to be running much smoother after replacing too. Might be something to think about if folks are notice the odd grumble. bonus photo in front of morecambe bay freshly polished (just seen i missed cleaning a wheel though 😂)

Suspension Upgrade
Okay, I'm looking more at the price and tempted to go https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-car/skoda/fabia-mk2-5j/ap-coilovers-skoda-fabia-5j-09/ or https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/kw/kw-variant-1-coilovers-skoda-fabia-5j/ Seen a few comments about APs being the budget set of the two but how much difference does this really make? Most of my driving is commute through town roads, some country road driving, no track and nothing crazy....I'm mainly looking to reduce body roll (it really is a boat) and improve the handling without sacrificing comfort. I've seen a few people even say they find the ride improved on coilovers vs stock which I found surprising. I've only ever run stock suspension so this is all new to me!
