  1. Yes, I think that the 3.5mm jack plug is for audio (ie MP3 and the like) not for phone connection, although it might work to an extent. The phone button is a standard button on all boleros in case the bluetooth module is fitted. You may be able to get one fitted? Sorry, I am sure more informed members will reply in more detail. John
  2. Hi, Mine were bothering me... I was considering inserting a cm long section of black drinking straw to direct the light.. You can get about the right dia to push fit I think. Dunno if it would look daft...or even it it would work. J
  3. Oops sorry posted in wrong thread.. Meant to be in the annoying led interior light thing. If moderator could delete post this would be most grateful. Cheers J
  4. Oh ...worth mentioning the blue tooth dongles don't work with apple products. Also don't use the supplied software disks for windows ...they are reputed to be full of viruses. J
  5. I got mine from Amazon. Like 7 quid or something ... Plenty discussions in the othe parts of briskoda. You need an android device (I borrowed my wife's samsung tablet) and a free app called torque. These things have no instructions...make sure you read the threads about the order of how to do it... Or.... You could ask if any members with this kit or the more sophisticated VCDS could meet and do it for you. I bought mine to check ..as I know that my yeti had stood for a bit with a (possibly) dead battery at the dealers... a postulated cause of this issue.... However mine was fine and in the recent snow it was a star! Other options are to take it to a dealer.. Worth noting that a fixed price Haldex oil change. ...about every three years.... Is about £65 and they should do a basic fault code check then.. You might have to ask tho'. Hope you get yours sorted. Cheers J
  6. I think I read that someone simply cleared the error and all was well. J
  7. No, not all. You did right. Accuracy is king. I appreciate it actually, what if I hadn't noticed and posted more nonsense....! While we're in the corner..if you buy the first round ..I'll buy the second! Cheers, J
  8. Ah, sorry. I totally mis-read the post. The OP had mentioned his observations with the 4x4 version Sorry. Must be more careful with reading the posts. I'll get my coat. J
  9. Hi, The 4x4 yeti has an 'off road' button as a option..or standard at high trim levels. This will change the behaviour of the traction control and 4x4 system, and other driving aids (if fitted as an option or fitted as part of a specific trim level). Although not a diff lock they mean the yeti will behave in a vastly different way on slippy or rough ground, there are several threads on here that discuss it. I would check if the one you are looking at has the button along with its wider spec. Cheers J
  10. For my part it is pure speculation. There is similar speculation all over the VAG community about the Haldex ...some plausible and some erm...a bit nuts. I have little experience with mucking about with modern cars ( though no stranger to other selected modern technical gubbinses) and have enjoyed reading the self study guide..amazing stuff. I think it is a safe bet that the cars evolve faster than the printed learning materials are updated and I think the system components and software (and potentially the sensor matrix) will be updated throughout the production run of a particular Haldex generation.. Would be interested to see a later issue of the linked self study guide. Worth noting also VAG tend to be a bit tight lipped. An example of their tacit nature Is to see how hard it is (thread on this forum) to get details of their screenwash! I am still enjoying speculating and learning about the yeti with the help of you guys... when I bought it I didn't anticipate a whole new hobby. Cheers J
  11. It probably wouldn't take any extra components for the Yeti to deduce its under this kind of load, the Haldex already knows the torque required, the throttle position, road speed, lat and long acceleration and yaw. It would only need a software tweak for it to know if it's going uphill or towing... The ecu will know it its towing.... The headlight levelling system knows the cars inclination...the TCS may gather that data too.... .....seen a discussion on vw vortex that the R32 may use the data from that. Clever wee beastie. Just thoughts. J
  12. Well... I can comfirm my button behaves just as described by the helpful and learned posts above. I can only think that the other day I wasn't going quite as fast as I thought.... I also find the feel of the yeti and how things are reigned in are speed dependant...even throttle response. Stunning bit of kit. Thanks guys. John
  13. Just out of interest Dave does this mean that when the button is pressed then the light in the speedo is 'on' and steady up to 20mph and extinguishes over that ? Cheers John
  14. Hi onyx. I think we are on the same wavelength, just clarifying things as 'limp mode' technically traditionally refers to an ecu condition that limits revs etc. the haldex issue is somewhat different but can broadly to be considered a limp mode....but not properly.....I was just clarifying my rather newby language to avoid confusion really.... I am still very much new to these machines. Yes... My understanding is that the error code will persist until cleared even with a new battery. Hope you get it sorted. If it is any consolation if your battery has had a few charge cycles it may all be fine for at least a little while and a clear of the error code could be all that's needed to get it working properly for now. Always look on the bright side! Cheers J
  15. Very true. The root of my issue really... Pressed the button then at some time during the fun glanced down noticed little light on within speedo .. Not sure of speed as I think feel is more important than numbers in that situation but guessed at about 30mph but could be wrong. Didn't look again until got home. Light Still on. Looked in manual...seemed to hint that it should not have been on above 30kph.. This piqued my OCD...Hence OP. Still not had a drive in it since....tomorrow will press button on clear road and see if the indicator in the speedo comes on 'at speed'...well above 10kph anyway. Am sure it's all to spec but I don't like it when I dont understand something. Cheers J
  16. Thanks, Got it. Couldn't check mine this morning as the wife nicked the yeti to get to work coz of the snow! Will have a look at how it behaves again when I next get in it. Cheers again for all your help. John
  17. Hi.... Sorry I shouldn't have used the word 'limp mode'. This was ambiguous and easily confused with the ecu/emu limp mode in which The car would be hardly drivable (as Graham rightly States). I was trying to refer to the Haldex 'going on the blink ' as a result of poor battery voltage...which is looking more likely I think. sorry for my imprecise language. I too am happy to scan the OPs yeti (but using my cheap bluetooth dongle and wife's pink andoid tablet) if the op is up here nearby ...but the op might opt for someone with more errrmm....experience and more professional kit! Cheers J
  18. Nice one. That's why it was on then! Assuming that my 2010 mk1 behave in the same way. Cheers J
  19. The light you refer to.... is the one in the speedo...at about 5 o'clock? Cheers, J
  20. Hi guys, Thanks for the replies. Guess you can turn it on at any speed and the light on the button lights up.... But is there a speed threshold where the hill descent thing lights up at? It's just the manual hints at 30kph but mine is on when the off road button is pressed...even at 35-40mph.? I think I worry too much. Cheers J
  21. Hi Chaps, Well the snow is here. Driving back home today I had occasion to have to press the off-road button. The downhill drive support light came on...even at 35mph. Should this come on when you press the off road button or only below 30kph? I had a read of the manual and I found it a bit erm.. Ambiguous but i interpreted it as not coming on above 30kph seven when the button is pressed.? What does everyone else's do? Cheers John I
  22. Yes, agreed. I fitted two new ones to my winter-pack Mitsubishi deli in 2011. I started to have serious cold start issues a month or two ago.... Thought it might have been the alternator.. After all she is nearly 20 years old.... But nope... it was one of the batteries..10.5v and less capacity than a thimble. J
  23. Hi Onyx, Have you read the ' haldex failure scare ' thread? Folk there reckon that if the yeti is without sufficient battery for a bit it can send the haldex (the 4x4 unit) into 'llimp mode' Ie only 2wd. It shows no error messages on the dash but they show up (and cured) when plugged into a laptop. My yeti..also a 10plate had a flat battery when I first looked at it...sat at the dealers for a few weeks.... And they had to jump it to start it. So flat batteries are common. I was worried about mine beacuse of the above so I checked mine with the cheapo dongle and it was fine. Good luck J
