  1. I'm going to ask my local garage if my calipers also need replacing, I can see they say they will so another hefty bill lol.
  2. I own a Haynes book - but I've only started my toolkit recently so it's fairly limited at the moment, so to do it myself I'd have to buy tools also. I have no mechanic friends, I've a friend who is a tyre fitter and that's as close as it gets lol. I've friends of friends but no means of contacting them directly, I'll hunt around see what I can do. Many thanks again, I've so many questions but I'll open another thread for that, don't want to muddle this thread about with loads of different topics.
  3. I appreciate the advise! I'm new with cars as I've only been driving since January and I'm young still, early days but I'll learn as I go. I'll try one last garage local to me and I'll get it booked in for an MOT to see what else needs doing lol - I've noticed a couple of leaks myself and have semi-sorted a misfiring problem. All's well.
  4. The pads on the front are fairly new according to my service history, I've examined them and they appear to have a lot of life left. Is it worth replacing the front ones too even if they don't need replacing yet?
  5. Since buying my Fabia about a month or two back I knew I had to replace front and rear disc brakes and rear pads, the front discs are scored and the rear pads no longer exist, I now have a rusty tint on my rear wheels .. nice! I've been shopping around and can get front and rear discs, and rear pads for less than £100, but fitting them is something I've never attempted before. I went to my local kwikfit and they refuse to fit anything not supplier by themselves, so I'm looking at around £400. My local garage said they will fit the parts I buy for £120 but that's still about £220 to get my brakes sorted - I was wondering if it is worth trying to fit them myself, is it easy enough? What tools are required? Or should I go to my backstreet garage and pay for them to fit it?
  6. I'm thinking of removing the engine cover from my 1.4 16v 100HP Fabia and replacing it with a induction filter. Is there any piping that would fit this model specifically? I want the filter to be on the left side of the engine near the coolant expansion box with piping from the front leading to the filter. Any suggestions?
  7. Pictures of the two codes that came up initially, the other is to do with my air con which I don't use, so I'm not particularly in a rush to get it fixed.
  8. Is swapping injectors as simple as swapping spark plugs and coils? Trying to keep costs down by doing labour myself. Already spent about £150 trying to solve this problem.
  9. I haven't as stated I've only limited access to a code reader until I purchase one (should be this weekend). I'll get it hooked up as soon as I can. I can't see a new problem arising from replacing spark plugs and coil packs though, only the same problem persisting as the problem isn't solved maybe due to leads or something. I'm merely searching for possible causes of cylinder 1 misfiring besides coil packs, spark plugs, and leads. Appreciate the advise, I do hope it is the leads, I don't see that being too expensive of a repair.
  10. Haha thanks I'll stick to vpower now, I haven't yet brought a code reader but intend on getting one soon! All 4 spark plugs and 4 coil packs were replaced yesterday, I'll hook it up again to see of the code follows with the new coil packs when swapped. As for the injector cleaner, any residues I should be looking for on the injector heads to see of they need cleaning without taking it apart?
  11. Sorry its a BBZ engine - I'm a fairly new driver and fairly new to all this mechanical looking after your car malarky. I'm running super unleaded (Texaco vpower or tescos super) and its done 110k miles.
  12. I own a 6y2 2005 skoda fabia 1.4 16v AUB 100HP, and had problems with it going into limp mode only when sat idled for about 3-5 minutes. After checking the service history I had notice individual spark plugs and ignition coils had been changed, so I've replaced all 4 spark plugs for NGK BKUR 6ET-10 as recommended by Haynes, and replaced all 4 coils as recommended too, this gave it a much steadier idle but the problem still persisted. I then went on to trying Redex petrol injector cleaner which seemed to work, I left my car idling for 30 minutes and it idled smoothly with no misfiring, when I'd turned the engine off then back on later the engine management light had disappeared and I thought my problem was solved until this morning when it went back into limp mode after 5 minutes or so of idling. I did only use 75mm of injector cleaner as I only had half a tank of fuel (I tend to try keep it at half instead of full). Maybe I should use the other half and top my fuel up? Just looking for suggestions as to what I could try next. Code reader gave error code cylinder 1 misfiring, when I swapped coil 1 for 2 the problem jumped across to cylinder 2, so I'd thought new coil packs would have solved my problem.
  13. Hello Samuir1974 - where are you from and what do you drive?
  14. Hello Briskoda community, my alias is Avant (was taken so using Avante), I am 23 years old and from Nottingham. Last week I bought myself a 2005 Skoda Fabia Elegance 1.4 16v 100hp, the AUB engine one - Although my knowledge of how a car works is currently pretty low, I aim to learn more along my journey, I've only been driving since January and my first car was a Vauxhall Astra 1.6 8v - not my choice of car, but it did me well and it was cheap. Initially I was looking at a diesel engine, but seeing I'm considering this a learning curve, I thought I'd stick with what I know best and go for a petrol instead. I'm here to learn how to maintain my car, keep it healthy and maybe make a few modifications, and in time, maybe I could help others. So, hello, I'm sure I'll be speaking with the majority of you reading this soon enough :sun:
