  1. On my SEAT Toledo (pretty much an Octavia Mk I VRS), I have a full size steel spare without a speed restriction sticker. If the spare is the same size and doesn't have a speed restriction sticker it's OK. I had a blowout the day before its MOT a couple of years ago, so rang in to check if I had to get it replaced before the MOT. The garage said it would get an advisory for it but would pass if the 12 year old tyre was fine. It passed with an advisory for "Offside Rear wheel steel not alloy".
  2. I've found VLC hopeless on my tablet (Hudl 2/Fire 6). A shame as it's great on PC/Mac. I've started using Kodi (playing local media, not streaming) and it plays the videos VLC struggles with no bother.
  3. Hi, I'm another Josh who found my Monte estate's ride too harsh. I swapped the wheels for 16" rims from the A1 with 215/45 tyres. They are nearly identical diameter so no need to adjust the speedo. I found the slight width increase + increased tyre profile greatly improve the ride.
  4. Yep, I had that one a couple of weeks ago at a three year service. Probably a marketing push to get the optional checks done as they certainly didn't ask about it at the 2 year service. I've never had a/c regassed before and usually have a 10+ year old second car.
  5. Heya, one thing I noticed with a full size spare was that the pin from the Skoda spare kit doesn't fit it (bolt is too short). One from a Mk I Octavia or Leon/Toledo fits as the bolt is longer.
  6. Just realised I haven't signed the register I've got a 63 plate Monte Carlo Tech Estate with the 1.2 TSI 105 bhp engine which I picked up a year and a half ago. It's a nice car, love all the toys in the Tech trim. The only thing I didn't like was the ride on 17" wheels, so have put some 16s on instead.
  7. And heres the Fabia with the wheels - very pleased with them!

  9. I went for the A1 alloys on ebay last week, seller dropped them to £200 and I couldn't resist at that price.
  10. Not sure on the vRS, but the monte carlo (which you can only get with 17"s in the UK) has tyre pressures for various wheel/tyre sizes on the inside of the filler cap - guess these are the ones Skoda approve of? On mine (1.2/77 kW TSI) it has: 185/60 R15, 195/55 R15, 205/45 R16, 205/40 R17. However I went with 215/45 R16 Audi OEM wheels + tyres from an A1 due to price (£200 a set with tyres secondhnad) - same chassis so hopefully won't be terrible!
  11. Wow, thanks for the info GoneOffSki! That was much more fruitful than a couple of my lunch breaks trawling dealer sites and ebay! I will have a look for the Comet alloys too. I'd looked at ebay and quite like the look of some of the A1 alloys on there (also hadn't occurred to me that the alloys from my toledo would be a direct swap) - both'd probably look good in black too (these are nice): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182055942748
  12. We've been happy owners of a 63-plate Monte Carlo TSI estate for the last year or so, but I've finally had enough of the "sporty" ride on the 17" alloys. Also my wife keeps curbing them... I was wondering if anyone knows the part number (or name) for the 16" alloys you could get in europe or could recommend some other 15" or 16" alloys (i gather 15"s fit from other threads on here, plus 14"s might look a bit too tiny!). I love the look of the black alloys/black trim on our white estate, but wonder if silver alloys will still look good. Current wheels I've looked at: http://www.carshowroom.com.au/reviews/2011-skoda-fabia-monte-carlo-review/ (not sure what these are) http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/Wheels/ITALIA-16%C2%B4-original-Skoda-Autoas-4pcs-set-of-rims(look like the ones off the Fabia III and pricey) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-Skoda-Rapid-Spaceback-Fabia-Combi-Felgen-Satz-6V0601025J-16-Zoll-NEU-S5-/311402443944 These are my faves at the moment - but I think they are from the Fabia III again
  13. Thanks for the replies, I'll check if they have made a mistake. If that's how it's "supposed" to work, the CANbus relay should sort it nicely, i'll get one of those.
  14. Hi, Just wondered if anyone else has the Pure Highway DAB radio fitted - i've got it along with the Nav system in my Monte Carlo. We got the dealer to fit it when we purchased the car. I've found it great, good signal with the stick on aerial. The only problem is that it only turns on with the engine, and turning the engine off always turns it off. This is a bit annoying as the radio remains powered so you get a blast of static if you leave the key in the accessories on (I?) position. Is this normal, or has the dealer perhaps connected it to the wrong power cable? Thanks, Josh
  15. Hey all, Thought and join and say hi to everyone before I do anything to it (haven't got anything major planned). Enjoying the car so far (it's a Monte Carlo Tech Estate with the 105 bhp 1.2 TSI), seems moderately quick and economical off the motorway. I nearly joined a couple of years ago when researching Octavia VRSs - I've fancied a Skoda for a while; I was looking for a Mk1 to replace the second car a couple of years ago but ended up finding an offer I couldn't refuse on a super low mileage, rare (cos no one wants it) SEAT Toledo 20VT instead; so two cars that are nearly VRS's, but not quite Cheers, Josh
