Plenty of quality tyres to be had in this size. Goodyear, Michelin or mid-range Avon if you’re on a budget. £85 - £120 a corner is not expensive at all. Never fit cheap budget tyres. Don’t last half as long as premium, so no saving. Plus, crap in the winter, as the cheapo rubber gets to hard. Tyres, brakes and suspension should never be done on the cheap.

no there isnt ,  they are near double the price of the smaller ones . why do you think im going this route ?

This is true, however there are more common tyre sizes which are a lot cheaper for the same brand of tyre.  A 185/60/15 Michelin tyre is considerably cheaper than a 215/45/16 Michelin tyre.  Another option would potentially be a 205/55/16 as that is the most common tyre size, however the circumference of that size is about 4 inches larger, so it could cause some rubbing, but also change the speed readout on your car. Eg. when your car reads 70mpg, you'll be going 74mph.  There is a way around this, which is to change your tyre size in VCDS or OBD11 which will adjust your speedo.

for insurance reasons i want to stay within specified sizes for the car,  but thanks for the info

  2. Skoda have told the dealer  Spirit Skoda Sandyford -  that it is stone chips and they do not cover it under warranty.

this is utter rubbish and anyone can see this is paint failure.

So Skoda can basically sell you a car on a 3 year pcp,  and you end up with an inferior car  that loses its value beyond what it should due to its ability to disintegrate  over the pcp period .

thanks Skoda ,  and thanks especially to Spirit sandyford for selling me this  piece of junk  -

next stop - independent paint expert and a solicitor .

    and the journos / SM

  3. I hand wash  / hand dry  and really look after this car service wise   - never use machine washers  .

and i picked the car expecting a reliable trustworthy one after looking at many makes.

to be honest i always thought the paint seemed a bit thin on this car  , once i got it

you can feel it give if you push your nail on it .

it certainly has not got the diamond hardness of an audi or  a ford

if they say this is norma/  or my fault and wont fix it .

they can do what they like  but they wont get a final  ballon payment out of me when its up .

i will drop it to the dealer with the keys and walk away .

I am not paying a final lump sum  to own a 3 year old disintegrating  car,  and will take it to every  car journo and website / forum etc if they decide that .

  4. The dealer examined the car with  their body paint  guy yesterday ,  they said they see the damage as caused by stones , BUT they looked at other same models and see that the stones only leave a small chip mark -  on metallic paints.

mine is flat colour -  and the ' stones'  seem to bring about a peeling of the top coat that they do not see on metallics.

I don't agree on this , but it seems they do see a problem.

so they said they took photos  and are taking it up with skoda themselves for advice on it.

i will bring it for my own assessement anyway.

i advised skoda  themselves of this exam  , and also  i advised that the PCP is up in a few months

and  I will hand it back to them to keep if its not fixed.

what worrys me is if they  fix it - does this mean a strip and repray of the whole car ?

  5. thanks,    but they said it would have been a tiny chip that grew due to weathering ,    I thought that made sense at the time , but  i had  a 14 year old audi that had no issues ,  and  wifes audi has no issues ,  driving the exact same roads.        i note there was a similar issue with toyota yaris  ,  so it looks like a paint problem  .

@dadumtishCould that be a re-work job done before delivery ? Or what @Estate Man says.

It looks like it's all over the car ??

Is your dealer Spirit in Sandyford?  If so, I'd suggest getting Simon Barrett on board as well - he's head of sales in the Skoda showroom. He helped a family member big-time with a problem Audi some years ago. The service people in Spirit Foster (service) will try to fob you off, like @AwaoffSki says.

Also, if you need a third-party opinion to back you up - try Alan Mears in Bray (http://www.alanmearsservices.ie/) - he does excellent work. Difficult to get a really good bodywork and paint-matching people around here - and this guy knows his beans - I've seen his work matching metallics !

Wish you well with it all.

Keep us posted how you get on.

thanks for the advice -  have done this today -   been so busy the last year  i just assumed they knew what they were talking about re stone chips and carried on   ,  but i put a bonnet cover on it while driving and it still got worse  .   its obviously not stone chips -  its dodgy paint .

  7. the car has these patches on the bonnet ,  side of front wheel arch,  rear near petrol cap  / rear door area

ive had it since new -  its on a pcp  2.5 years old .

it is parked in  in front drive on a medium busy street beside the wifes audi  and the neighbours ford,  both have no issues like mine

and its parked in work in basement car park .

so no dodgy environment around it.
