  1. I would think that is it the beading, any decent tyre fitting place would wip off the tyre, give it a wire brush up,paint some sealant jollop on the rim, refit the tyre, balance it, job done.
  2. Nothing wrong with hose pipe oil fumes exiting Malcolm, same with our VW Beetle, this had an oil bath air filter with the crank case breather going in as well, took it off, fitted a k&n and rerouted the breather pipe (garden hose) straight down to the ground, job done it ran sweet as a nut
  3. Very true, I have had all the problems, long beep, no on screen display, very quick on screen display, nothing at all, working a treat, I am doing nothing to it now, if it wants to work then it can, if it doesn't want to then don't bother, I have better things to do then muck around with that.....Poxy Car .Rant over
  4. I second that, there are a few names there that I had forgot about I bet that wish that you still had the 1953 Ford Anglia
  5. My 54 plate 1.9 pd seems very low mileage at 86,100
  6. Every one of these that I used to see were full of tin worm especially round the arches, but I still loved them. Where are the fluffy dices ?
  7. Thanks for explaining this, ( I think it replaced the Blubird as the humble saloon/hatch of the range ) The "Bluebird" that I owned engine wise was pretty good, it used to embarress a few cars at the notorious traffic light drag strip Shame that every time it rained another rust hole appeared
  8. Sorry to hi jack this thread but my Octavia sensors were working fine, then I joined this forum and they decided to not display any car and emit a long beep. Strangely now they are working fine, picture of car, beeping, little bars when I get close to other cars......really weird
  9. I keep asking myself why I know nothing about these Primeras were they not very popular ?
  10. If it was me I would keep away from any Micra. I had one for 15 months after listening to reviews of other peeps. They feel like they are made out of egg shell, they are known to suffer from electrical faults , mine had keyless entry and start, if that packs up you are in big trouble, evidently the electrics are Renault, the engine which was pretty pokey for a 1.4 was also derived from a Clio, fuel consumption was 47 mpg on a run at best due to the gearing which could do with a 6th gear. If a tail light bulb blows the car goes into limp mode, the boot lid also rattles and suffers from wind noise, all in all I was glad to get rid of it.
  11. This may interest you http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1990-Renault-5-1-4-Turbo-GT-3dr-/161751793383?hash=item25a9287ee7 it looks very clean for the year
  12. How the f*** did I miss that ? Apologies. Were they as nutty as I seem to remember ? I seem to recall the steering was all over the place especially in wet or damp conditions.
  13. Reading through these posts rekindles (if that is a word) memories of times gone by.........Fast Fords, Vivas,Suzuki 2 stroke screamers ( I can still remember the smell of burning 2 stroke.....fabulous) etc etc, but I can recall borrowing a friends car that has not been mentioned yet and this was a rocket by the standards of that time.......it was a Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider. Raider because it had colour coded alloys, but this thing wheel spun in first, second and third and handled terrible but it was the quickest thing off the mark that I had ever driven. I reckon most of them ended up in hedges and upside down but great fun in their day. Anyone had one ?
  14. I will have to delve into the memory banks to recall everything, there will probably be some that the younger peeps will not know but here goes, might not be in the absolute correct order........Vespa ss180, Suzuki B100 ,Suzuki A100, Suzuki GT250, Honda CB750, Reliant Regal, Ford Corsair 1600, Commer Van, Datsun 180 Bluebird, Ford Cortina mk2, Ford Capri 2.0S, Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia, Ford Cortina Mk5 1600L, Honda CB 250, Ford Sierra 2.0 Ghia, VW Golf GTI 8 valve in Grey, VW Golf GTI 8Valve in Red, Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8 Super Exceed, Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 Elegance, Vauhall Corsa 1.2 Semi Auto, Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Twinport, Nissan Micra 1.4 SX, Skoda Octavia 1.9 Elegance. ....This is only the second diesel that I have owned and there have been some real rust buckets here that struggled on MOT time
  15. The shape looks similar to this
  16. Isn't that a Vauxhall/Opel Firenza ?
  17. On my introduction post this was brought up by me, cars that we have owned in the past. Some of us have owned cars that would be worth thousands now, might be good to name a few. Mine....Cortina MK2 with column change auto and bench seat, Capri 2.0 s, VW Beetle 1300,VW Camper. Also had a couple of VW gti's but were they as good at the time as I thought they were, I don't think so. About 2 years ago we had a Vauxhall Corsa with a 1.2 twinport engine, this thing had a couple of mild mods done to it and I reckon that this was as quick as those gti's of the late 80's, flat out speed according to sat nav 110mph (on private land of course). Maybe its all down to technology changing or memory loss on my part ......Opinions ?
  18. But were the old cars that you had actually as good as we think they were..............probably not........new thread coming up
  19. Hi, when we were looking for our Skoda like you we did a bit of research (Autotrader, Preloved, E-Bay etc etc), we ended up on e-bay but this took months because we were waiting for the right motor at the right price. If you are in a hurry you will probably buy the wrong car. If it was me I would go for the Octavia because like you I have not heard of many Fabias doing the mileage (no reflection to Fabia owners). Ours is a 1.9 and the drive and torque is just fine. Hope this helps
  20. Hello All, after much research on here I have just purchased my first Skoda.I am of the age to remember the old skoda jokes "why has a skoda got a heated rear window.....to keep your hands warm while you are pushing it" etc etc. When we gave it a test drive we were all saying "WOW" it drives like the passat that we had as a hire car. We have had a few cars in the past all various styles, some of which I wish I had now as they would be worth thousands (Mk 2 Cortina, VW Camper, Ford Capri etc etc). The Skoda seems a very well built car, mpg is astonishing, it is 54 reg with 84,000 miles, full service history, cambelt changed twice, new clutch and flywheel. I have read through most of the topics concerning MK2 Octavias and there is a wealth of knowledge there which is why we picked the 1.9 pd. Hope to pick up more tips and share some that I have picked up over the years.
