Lumpy running after engine start on warm days
Hello I've noticed that, after starting my 1.2 TSI (4 cyl) on warm days, the engine runs lumpily for a short while. It feels like the engine is hesitating, like in the old days if mechanical points were worn out or plugs/leads needed replacing etc. I've seen elsewhere on here that the engine may be running in a special mode for 30s after start (ironically for fast warm up) - does this apply to this engine and could it be responsible? If this is responsible, since I imagine there is an ambient temperature sensor, why does the fast warm up cycle need to run on hot/warm days? Cheers

Skoda specialist recommendations near Stafford/Stoke
I've but tried any apart from the main dealers. I've tried a number of local independents but they never quite did anything right hence looking for an independent 'specialist.' I'll take a look at your link - thanks.

Creaking over speed bumps
Thanks. I'll take a look. I have sprayed them with silicone before but maybe that was just covering up the problem.

Creaking over speed bumps
Getting a consistent creak over speed bumps on our MK2 combi. Sounds like it is coming from the passenger side footwell so I guess it is a suspension bush. What are the options if this is the case? On smaller Ford's with chocolate bushes, I used to replace the entire track control arm but is this necessary on the Fabia? Thanks in advance.

Skoda specialist recommendations near Stafford/Stoke
Can anyone recommend a decent independent near to Stoke/Stafford, please? Friend of mine who used to look after bigger jobs on our cars no longer available ☹️

Roof bar fitment (mk 2/mk 3 combi)
Hi, Can anyone recommend some lockable roof bars for 2014/2017 combos? Both cars have raised "open" rails. Also, anyone know if VW Touran bars will fit on the Fabia estate. They're both open rails. The Touran is a 2007 model. Cheers

Belt or chain 1.0 tsi?
"Skoda: 1.2 litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, 1.6 litre FSI, 1.2TSI and 1.4 litre TSI 4-cylinder up to 2012 when replaced by belt cam EA211 (though some Yeti 1.2TSIs remained chain cam up to 2015)..." The above text is from that linked site but is it correct? As I understood it: 1.2TSI (8V) are all chain cam, which covers MK2 fabias & engines prior to 2012 may have issues with their chains. These engines ran up to 2015 (?) 1.2 tsi after (in fabia MK3) are 16V and have belt driven cam. 1.0 tsi (2017 on?) are all belt. Is the above correct?

2017 1.2 tsi 66kw spark plugs
That's what I thought. Bosch generally don't make any rubbish and I half expected Bosch to be standard supplier for VAG.

Media on USB starts from same place every time car started
When you say, "that's that", you can reset the stereo by holding the power button for a while. Does that recover it?

Window seal/guide perishing
Hi, Noticed the window seal rubber on my 2017 car looked like it was about 10 years old with it being cracked/hard/perishing. Is this expected? Are these easy to change? Thanks in advance

2017 1.2 tsi 66kw spark plugs
Anyone use Bosch plugs in this engine? With my wife's mk 2 8V 1.2 TSI, I used Bosch (they were cheaper) and it has been fine. I was planning on doing the same with mine when the time comes.

I've had this recently, too. What's your memory card formatted to? I had a 32GB sd card plugged in for ages (over 12 months) and that was formatted to exfat or FAT32 (can't remember which) with no problems. I then formatted a usb stick for NTFS and put some music on that. Everything played fine but I (once) had a warning about unplayable files that required a stereo "reboot" to resolve. I then swapped the SD card for a 64GB micro SD (in an adaptor) formatted for NTFS (and unplugged the usb stick) and have had a few more warnings from time to time but these resolved themselves without a reboot. It has been cold recently but it (Bolero) seems less tolerant of NTFS than other formats in my opinion.

Skoda Fabia 1.0 Se TSI petrol - should we buy ?
Can't comment on the 1.0 TSI but I have a 2017 1.2tsi Fabia estate (90HP) and missus has a MK2 1.2 TSI estate (86 HP). They're both 4 cyl Neither feel underpowered, in my opinion, even when loaded up and the roof box is on. They certainly feel sprightly compared to my old 1.6 Focus and are a lot better on MPG. They've all got pretty good torque so they're easy to get along with and you don't really have to rev beyond 3000 RPM. I did test drive a non turbo mk3 (either 60 or 70bhp?) and that was pretty flat but ok, I reckon, for doddering about without having to worry about a turbo etc. If you like tear-arseing around, you might have a problem but for general driving and motorway use, they're perfectly usable.

Oil/cabin filter replacement
Just for the benefit of others. This video talks about the "old o-ring left in" problem that can occur. https://youtu.be/FtosVQJBjtw?t=1008

Oil/cabin filter replacement
That's what I got - a carbon Mann filter. It was about £12.

Oil/cabin filter replacement
Didn't realize it that was easy. That's great and thanks for the quick reply. By "new seal", I presume that means the one already attached to the new filter and that the old filter should come off completely with no parts of it left behind. I.e. new filter seal goes to the metal oil filter housing that the filter screws on to? I've generally ordered a kit from Opie and this just contained the oil filter and oil without any other items.

Oil/cabin filter replacement
Hi all, I'm just about to do an oil change / replace the cabin filter. I read elsewhere about oil filters not being replaced properly in cbza engines - something about the old oil seal not being replaced. Is this referring to the rubber seal of the oil filter (pictured) being left behind when the old filter is removed and the new one screwing down on top of this? https://static.onlinetrade.ru/img/fullreviews/24772/16_big.jpg Also, is there a guide on replacing the cabin filter? Is this straightforward? Thanks in advance

Pure Highway 600 installation
Hi, Thought I'd silence my Mrs' complaining about not having the same stereo as in my Mk3 model by getting a Pure Highway 600 for DAB and handsfree. I did look into getting an upgrade Skoda stereo unit to replace the Swing but the Pure is only £64 and seems to do everything that she wants. Does anyone have one of these in a Mk2 Fabia? Any problems? Any hints on best location/wire routing etc for installation? I presume you get a dual output USB adaptor in the box and that it should be easy to disconnect the unit to throw it into the glovebox when parking in ropey locations? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Fuel consumption 1.2 TSI 86HP (Combi)
They're relatively like for like as it had Bridgestone Turanza on the rear and Hankook K435 on the front which were changed for the same fronts and some Maxxis rears. I do brim to brim from time to time and find the dashboard optimistic (on both cars) but it's pretty consistent so I do treat it as a reasonable reference. Hers is an 86PS from memory whereas mine is 90. They're both 4 pot TSI 1.2 but mine is 16V and hers is 8. I think the point I'm making is that mine has always been better on mpg than hers but I'd say that hers was now noticeably worse (I noticed it after all!) and I just wondered if it might be an indication of something amiss.

Fuel consumption 1.2 TSI 86HP (Combi)
It was zeroed as it auto zeroes. The car is well maintained with recent tyres (pressures checked regularly), air filter and plugs (all about 10 months ago). The weather was colder and wetter since the last time I remember the mpg from on a dual carriageway run but the weather was similar in the two consecutive days that I drove both.

Fuel consumption 1.2 TSI 86HP (Combi)
I drove my Mrs' combi yesterday and was surprised at the fuel consumption (as reported on the dash). Running the same routes as I would in my 1.2 TSI 90HP (4 cyl) 2017 Combi, it was 10 MPG short driving it pretty much in the same way. I used to drive the car a lot and I remember it being 'better' on MPG than it is now. On a run on a flat dual carriageway, doing about 56, it could usually get 55+ MPG but it seems worse now with only one occupant. So, I can guess that either they changed the MPG calculation (although this doesn't account for the difference from now to then) or something is amiss ? Anything I should look for / possible causes ?

Looking to buy a 2007-2010 Fabia as a first car, any tips and things to look for
If you go down the petrol route, take care with the TSI engines. I believe they had timing chain issues for cars built prior to 2012.

Swing upgrade to DAB?
Thanks for the replies. I've not seen one for £100 ;-) but good work if you managed to get one for that. Some questions, I guess: I presume that the unit, when swapped between cars, will need a code? Does the unit have to be from a Skoda (branding) in order for any code to work / the unit to work in another Skoda ? i.e. Can it be from a VW/SEAT and it will still work with the Fab? If the car doesn't have steering wheel controls, does this cause any problems? Do I still need a different (DAB) aerial for the RNS315 to receive DAB? I'm not that fussed about the navigation but I take it that a GPS receiver is required for this to work? If so, where are they normally located? I presume that the RNS315 is too old to have Android Auto ? Thanks again.

Swing upgrade to DAB?
Hi, I was looking at upgrading the Swing in our 2014 Mk 2 combi SE to something with DAB and an SD card slot/USB/BTooth. If possible, also hands-free. I'm guessing that there are three levels of difficulty here: Easy : finding something with SD-card slot and USB/Bluetooth. Intermediate: DAB as a unit swap will be relatively easy but a new aerial will be required. Difficult: Hands-free as this would require mics and steering wheel (but is there an easier option?) Otherwise, I guess a Pure DAB Highway 400 radio for about £60 might be a reasonable option but this doesn't have hands-free, either. Thanks for any suggestions.

B pillar trim removal ?
Thanks for the information - that's great. Can you tell me what the circled arrow means? Does that mean to push this tab to the left to get it to pop off to access the screw? I've got a trim removal kit - can you recommend the best tool / way of getting this off or does it just come off easily once the screw is out ? Also, what is the other circled item, please?
