  1. Ahh … the great B4 1.9pd Passat estate! As well as the 70 litre main tank it had a hot climate 20 litre expansion tank that was nevertheless a standard fitment. There was a 1000 Mike club … over 1000 mls on one tankful. The “secret” was a technique called “venting”. If you were going on along journey, or in coldish weather, there was a spring loaded toggle inside the main tank neck & once you’d filled the main tank you could depress that downwards with the tip of the fuel nozzle and carefully add another 20 litres. So that gave you 90litres & over 1K miles fairly easily on long distance travel. Also, the rear seat backrest could be raked back a little to a second position, much more comfortable for rear passengers on long journeys. My 65 reg Octavia Scout was a shock with such a tiny tank. Never forget one overnight trip back to Exeter from N Wales. I made the mistake of coming first down through Wales itself only to find all the rural petroleum station# closed & hadto refuel on the motorway😤The shame of it!!!
  2. Did they say what the problem was & what fixed it?
  3. My ACC has also recently stopped working! Dud you ever get your problem resolved? Or are you just ignoring the warning symbols?
  4. Standard tyres for 18” 8J is 235/45/18 standard ET44 so not very far off
  5. Interesting … 4 wheel alignment completed yesterday … bit of a saga & described here … All that is left is to get some decent wheel caps for the Audi wheels & sort out selling the very pretty 19” Trinity ones shod with almost new Falkens! The car rides wonderfully btw on the 7J rims & 225/55 profile Cross Climate 2 rubber @39psi all round.
  6. So …. Having re-shod my fairly recently acquired SE-L Exec 4x4 dsg tdi 190 estate with 17”. Audi wheels & all weather tyres decided to take to Exeter Protyre for the 4 wheel alignment check every vehicle I buy gets. And yes, both front & rear requires some adjustment. Guy starts to explain about calibration of what I took to be ACC (having already read this thread). He called it the ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and as he explained the rationale my heart sank at facing potentially a very expensive bill. Anyway at the end he said they have the equipment to do this on site & it could take up to an hour to complete including the alignments themselves. So asked him what all this costs … £75 for the alignment & another £150 for the ADAS re-calibration … phew better than £400 odd but even so … then he adds “however Protyre have a special promotion at present and the cost is £150 for both together.” Deal! was my instant reply! BTW … He also mentioned that next year the ADAS system would be included in MOTs for vehicles so equipped but I couldn’t stay to find out how. So … Heads up!! Protyre being a national company, opportunity at present to get 4 wheel alignment & ACC re-calibrated at a seriously bargain price.
  7. Early days … v pleased with wheel condition & initial driving around is very pleasant. Tyres all at 39 psi, an eco level slightly up from the light load 36 psi. Not “tested” grip in the wet. 4 wheel alignment tomorrow, so best hold off until completed. Tyres & wheels combo looks “ok’ish” but miles away from the great look of the 19” Skoda ones have to admit. Btw, anyone else thinking of getting Audi wheels beware their Heinz57 approach to wheel cap designs & sizes. Only got confirmed mine take the spyder version which covers both centre & wheelbolt heads … at £44, EACH from Audi. Even then there seem to be 2 sizes of centre void … hoping the Chinese clone version arriving from China in early December will fit but at £20 for a set, not end of the world if they don’t! Btw, the Audi wheels were off a Q3 & I did check comparative vehicle weights before going ahead … the Q3 being slightly heavier. @ 7J & ET43 very close to Skoda’s, so technically a pretty good fit. Will try to remember to post a photo when wheelcentre caps of some sort are fitted.
  8. So …. Change of mind and got some 2h Audi 17” rims. These and the 225/55/17 101W Michelin CrossClimate 2 new tyres are down at the tyre centre waiting to be fitted. Head ruled over heart … my lovely grey 19” trinity (?) wheels with almost new Falken tyres will be up for sale soon assuming all goes well.
  9. So starting with the single car image on the central screen press and press the cogs image bottom right to bring up “Convenience Consumers”. Then, with the ignition on turn the wing mirrors heating on from the driver door panel and on the screen this is signified by an all green strip. Then turn on the rear window heating and that comes up as well but not green all the way & meanwhile the Green strip for the wing mirrors recedes. If you then turn aircon on that green strip comes on & alters the other two. But these are not sliders, they’re indicators, probably showing “strength of operation” of each from a shared supply of current? Well at least for the two glass heating systems. Makes sense I guess if only the wing mirror heating is on that is the coldest context in cold weather being external to the car so full heat. But if the rear screen heating is needed, given that requires far more current from a total limited amount it will “take” some of the feed to the wing mirrors? And the aircon has a role to play as well assuming it’s distributing warmth internally & so diminishes the current feed to the rear element while it warms up the interior. Well that’s my inexpert guess but for all I Know this might also be coupled to battery status monitoring so that the heating element feeds diminish if/when the battery charge is low & charge rate cannot keep up with current demand & threatens battery discharge? Anyway, still means the wingmirror heating is relatively limited when both side & rear elements are on … must go for a long daytime run & get the battery charged up & check again.
  10. Mine first registered July 2018. Yes 68 covers early 2019 as well. Will have to scrabble around & find my way back to where this slider is!
  11. Did wonder precisely that myself. Breakers yard?
  12. Mine first registered July 2018. Yes 68 covers early 2019 as well. Will have to scrabble around & find my way back to where this slider is!
  13. Found the heating effect on my 68 Reg SEL-Exec disappointingly slow to come on & barely discernible as warm compared to all previous estates, including a 65 reg Octy Scout & B5 Passat estate. so had a fiddle with the settings options on the large screen & wherever it’s found there is a slider option for the heating strength for the mirrors. This was set at the low end & increasing the heat was disabled for some reason. Anyone know why/how that should be? I did wonder if it was related to battery charge level … that would make sense for high heat must draw significantly more current. Oh … same for the rear heating element for that matter in terms of how slowly it demists. Maybe time I went for a longish daytime run!
  14. Clear optics in both rear pillars & sides of the hatch, but from the outside can see 2 bulbs in the polar unit & none in the hatch optical. Hope access is via the two side compartments … must check the handbook!
  15. So my 68 reg SEL-Exec 190 dsg 4x4 has two reversing lights but tbh rather pathetic! Anyone know of a “simple” plug & play set of upgraded leds that can be swapped for the original bulbs?
  16. Thanks for going to so much trouble, but how do the Octavia estate Scout parts relate to the Superb estate Scout version which was never manufactured for the U.K. market?
  17. Anyone got any info on the springs & shocks fitted to the Scout version of the Superb estate which of course. never made it to the U.K. I’d much like to raise my Superb 4x4 estate a little higher to improve ground clearance for unmetalled roads & tracks.
  18. Not sure comparing a Golf R’s shocks with the Bilstein damptronics and equating that to a comparison with standard Superb shocks is necessarily a fair comparison ? The R is surely fitted with higher performance shocks in the first place. My impression is certainly that compared with my earlier 65 reg Octavia Scout (“190”/tdi/dsg) my present Superb SEL/Exec 190/tdi/dsg/4x4 estate feels a fairy bit softer & wallowy over road undulations and even bounces off the bump stops on larger “sleeping policemen
  19. Having seen 17” wheels on an estate I agree not right! Esptge narrower 215 tread. But still up to look at 18” rims!
  20. So now up in N Wales & thanks to Skoda’s own Sat Nav’s quirky ideas of route options have endured lurching worryingly & carefully along additional miles & miles of potholed minor roads …. such a small distance between tyre treads & wheel rims! 🥴😤 Will look to change in a few weeks time …. The Superb will not look quite so superb, but I’ll travel with more confidence over a mixture of surfaces!
  21. Interesting! rather different pressures here! https://www.carsguide.com.au/skoda/superb/tyre-pressure NB in particular the variations for the rear!
  22. Got my very very nice 68 reg 190 tdi dsg 4x4 Superb Combi coming on for a couple of months ago from Carrs Skoda, Bridgewater, & gradually getting used to such a small motor after parting sorrowfully with the 10 years older VW California campervan. As a SEL-Exec it came shod with very posh metallic grey Trinity 19” wheels and brand new 235/40/Z19 Falkens. However … 40 profile looks so fragile & apart from that I always convert to all weather tyres … 2x4 zero grip & 4x4 zero grip is what you get in poor icy or snow covered situations. The Camper was preceded by a 65 reg Octy Scout allweathers shod which proved great on snow & ice. Obviously not set up for anything adventurous off metalled roads I do venture albeit cautiously into forest tracks and the odd unmetalled track . So 40 profile tyres … rather not! And that’s apart from the relatively harsh ride over potholes, projecting drains etc. Anyway, hopefully someone lusting after my wheels will come along in a month or so time to buy & I can then convert to a tiny upsize on 17” wheels with 225/55 tyres as suggested in an earlier thread here rather than the 215/55s. Tyre of choice is the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3. Any thoughts on such a proposed change?
  23. Not good … only found out my Superb 3 Combi 190 tdi dsg 4x4 should have a towbar fitted on manufacturer vehicle assembly! Not sure if Skoda offer a retro-fit option but it will be expensive ‘Cos apart from the Labour you pay for all the parts fitted rather than any difference in cost at the assembly stage. you’d think Skoda would somehow make this well known, even if only to their own dealers!
