  4. Is it possible to play a song from Spotify (via the Apple CarPlay interface) then jump back to the built in Skoda satnav (not the apple maps)? Or leaving CarPlay and going to Skoda SatNav stops Spotify?
  5. Badge snobbery is alive and kicking. Just look at all the bottom of the range and woefully under specced Audi/Mercs/BMW on all those driveways thinking they have premium luxury when actually it is nothing but envy of high end versions in the ranges. Don't get me wrong - the top end and specced out Audi/BMW/Merc are truly fantastic cars. But the majority don't drive these £60k+ cars. Skoda is making quite a shift in perception in the market place and getting rave reviews across all countries. Even in germany it is mirroring the uk and coming top in the Superb vs Passat vs Mondeo tests. What is clever, is the shift is to dramatically grow 'those in the know' group of people out there. That group of people who have been around for years and know that Skodas are outstanding cars at a fraction of their cousins from the VAG group. Audi faced a similar challenge 15 years ago. Sure they were a lot higher up the pecking order than Skoda to start with, but they were seem poor third to BMW and Mercedes. However they built on their engineering heritage and developed the 'people in the know' who knew Audi were excellent cars. Took Audi to an equal with BMW and Mercedes at the golf club. Resulted in a lot of BWM middle-aged boy racers switching from BMW to Audi (and taking their reputation with them). I've joked with my neighbour that they best get their house on the market soon as i'll have a Skoda on the drive in 2 months and drag the local house prices down.
  6. Just received a boot mat for an estate from Superskoda. My Superb order isn't due till May/June, so can't comment on the fit. But. Very happy with the the quality of the mat. Double sided - carpet and rubber. Carpet on outside, opens like a book to reveal rubber. includes a flap that covers the bumper for protection. There is a split for the chairs to drop seperatly.   7. I wonder why the production process couldn't provide a higher quality paint and finish with protection built in when car was being built. As an extra. Some take the flat colours, others pay for the metallic/pearl paint option, perhaps some would pay for a paint+ option with better protected technology. I'm sure it can be done.

  9. The steady move to digital touch displays are likely. The new all digital display of Audi and VW will make the inevitable jump, but the central touch screen will eventually replace the buttons and dials. The columbus unit is already taking over many functions, its not a big step to take over the rest. The newish Volvo XC90 effectively has a full sized iPad grafted into its dashboard and not much else. As touch screen components continue to plummet in cost price, it'll only be a short time before its standard across all cars.

  12. This information is there. SkodaUK could publish it as a very easy customer service benefit. Once you have ordered they could give you a username/password to a 'new buyer' web portal which gives a more detailed status of your order. Doesn't need to use terms like status 20, but friendly customer facing words with a bit more info for the average joe. They could also show you your car in a stripped down configurator view and access to relevant manuals and stuff (like the iPad app), but personalized. They can even try and upsell stuff, such as insurances, service packs and so on. It wouldn't take much effort, it would calm eager purchasers, reduce badgering of the garages and car sales staff , and send a serious you-are-important-to-us customer message.
  13. You do wonder how they get these official numbers. Obvious stuff is to remove the spare wheel, empty to fuel tank to 1litre, no water in the washers, minimal oil etc. before a test. Even then I don't know how they do it, they must have to strip out a lot more to get even close, like all the seats...
  14. It's on status 10 = unconfirmed. Not likely to move to status 20 (confirmed) until 3 weeks before build so another 3 or 4 weeks to wait to see if it gets pinned down to bw16.
  15. When I was first negotiating on buying the car I was told long times - June or July. I put my order in and shortly after the order, the dealer said the times had eased I was looking at May. Which lines up with an Aprul build. Can but hope.

  18. With the amount of information on the Internet, such as excellent forums like this, I felt fully informed to be able to purchase a Superb without the need to talk to a sales person. I would have been happy to have purchased the car direct for the Skoda website, especially if they then give you a full online tracking for order, through build to delivery. Leaves the garages to do the after sales/service and perhaps be a center for test drives (without the sales push). When looking for cars I popped into VW and got the full dis-interested-yet-still-pushy sales experience (how do they do that? it's an art) and mentioned I'd just be as happy clicking a buy button online and giving my deposit. Salesman looked at me and said he'd be out of a job. I looked at him for a moment. We left to buy a Skoda.
  19. Tried carwow. Excellent site. Showed the best deal to my local Skoda dealer and they beat it so went local. Basically carwow did the haggle on my behalf and cut through the crap.
  20. I have the last generation Passat estate. Great car that's served us well. A new car was on the cards and I fell into that sheep mentality we often all fall victim to of immediately looking at the Passat first. Nice car. New dashboard has a quality, simplified feel and perhaps a minor step up from my current car (I suspect that is marketing that has made me think that). Ok so far. Car looks - well it's a Passat - front has had a slightly keener look than old, but the back is worse than the last gen - and that sent you to sleep. What at first looked to be similar price point as my last purchase actually has the base standard "toys" reduced and the desirable accessories and upgrades costs push the price by a big jump. Leather seats, climate control, adjustable seats, tinted windows, all that sort of thing. But it was getting cracking reviews. I realized I had fallen into the trap of looking at the brand first so looked to see othe Passat class cars in the other VW group brands. Skoda Superb was never on my radar - wasn't keen on the previous look, but got a major surprise at the new Superb. First one I saw on the road I thought was a new Audi until I saw the badge. The repositioning in the market of the Skoda brand, impression, desirability and style is an impressive move and clearly indicates VW will be drifting into a higher price bracket in the coming years as Skoda starts attracting previous VW buyers. Audi will need to drift up the scale further still to maintain the gap between the brands. I can only imagine the internal competition it must have sparked at the VW group - the VW design team will be worried. Passat will have to significantly up its game at the next revision because it is a clear second to the Skoda on every measure - looks, practicality, kit, extras, prices, service costs etc. Putting the emotional side of visual desirability to one side (Skoda hands down for me), I moved on to the hard facts of numbers. Every single price is keener. For everything. The range of starting trim levels are approximately equivalent to VW until you look at detail - climate control - standard in Skoda, extra on VW Apple CarPlay interface standard on Skoda, £125 extra on VW (a tick box in the setup software) leather seats standard on Skoda (higher trims), extra on VW. It goes on. But what really caught my eye was each item was higher for a VW. Sometimes only £10 but often hundreds. For example, Factory swivel towbar £885 VW, £765 Skoda. Identical kit - literally. Final straw is the fixed price servicing VW £159 £329 (minor major service) vs Skoda £139 £259 VW are not stupid - they know how to encourage people to aspire for more/better/higher and they bank on you comparing the brand you currently align yourself with to the next one up - for example Audi. A VW owner can then satisfy themselves they are getting better value for money with VW or can reach for the extra prestige that Audi try to sell. Looking down the chain to a Skoda is rarer. However the new Skoda is catching people's attention. And the comparisons push the Passat into a second place. You can see VW are concerned. The discounts (carwow ) you can find on Passats are considerably more generous than Skoda Superb. The end price is still more but what might have been a £5k gap on paper can be reduced to £1800. This speaks volumes. Looking forward to the delivery of my new Skoda in a few months time.
  21. Have them on the Passat and got used to them and I've become lazy. Seems odd to me that you end up in the middle ground. If they include rear as standard then they should have an option to add front - not an option to add front AND rear as you are effectively paying for rear twice. Didn't bother with front in the end...
  22. Recently ordered a Superb SE L Executive estate. It comes with rear parking sensors as standard but not front. Yet it didn't allow me to spec to add front sensors. The option is simply front and back sensors at £350. Feels like I'm getting charged twice for the back sensors, or am I missing something?
  23. I was under the impression too that the new TDIs were all Adblue until I saw the small print after ordering. I'm currently driving an affected Passat and very unhappy at the handling by VW as emissions-to-power-to-mpg was a key reason for the purchase. As the VW range are identical to the Skoda range I wondered if they were all Adblue (I had been led to believe this by a salesman in try to secure my custom as a unhappy/disappointed Passat owner). Had a look on VW website as I thought all their New Passats were Adblue. But they aren't. They are identical to the Skoda range. The brochures and website all state Skoda TDI engines are EU6 compliant. I hope I'm not turning around in 12 months to face another miss-sold car.
  24. Is the new Superb affected by the VW emissions scandal? Does it hit the newer EU6 standards? In the spec brochure I noticed that is is only the 2.0 TDI 150PS 4x4 and the 190PS cars that have SCR technology (requires the additional Adblue liquid) to reduce the emissions which is the main way of getting the emissions down to the new standards.
