  1. Hey, missed the reply here, sorry... I fitted a set of Eibach Pro-Kit Springs this week and had the alignment done, still a little offset to the one side but the guys said it was to Skoda specs, respected place with proper Hunter machine I need to come back to the UK urgently for some work so won't get a chance to look at the car for a few weeks, but will try and update then...
  2. Looking at the Workshop Manual it seems like they screw directly into the tailgate bodywork Is it possible they've been overtightened and the threads stripped?
  3. Pictures here I'll probably do a walkthrough install when I get cleaned up a bit...
  4. Yes, yes they do... Wheels are Audi RS4 replicas 8Jx19" wearing 225/35R19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics Springs are Eibach Pro-Kit, part No. E10-79-004-02-22 No issues with rubbing or anything (yet) Handling is much improved, body roll reduced, smoother on small bumps but harsher on larger compared to stock vRS springs
  5. The advert itself has a list of compatible vehicles, which all derive from the Golf 5 platform with 1.4 or 1.6 TSI engines and all list front axle weight of 1020kg The Ebay car configurator lists the Diesel 1.6, but I wouldn't normally trust that as (IIRC) it works on engine size only when the seller specs it... A 1.6l Diesel engine will be significantly heavier than a 1.6l petrol, so even if they're safe to fit, I suspect there's a good reason they make two sets of springs, handling or ride height perhaps I just finished fitting the Eibachs to mine today, very happy with the results, will post a picture in another thread...
  6. BTW, where is Wiltshire are you? Before we moved to Southampton then Croatia, we used to live in Melksham
  7. Sounds possibly camchain related then, imagine the kind of noise a light chain moving quickly would make if it were a little loose, if it sounds like that it could well be One thing to be aware of is that the TSI engine is direct injection like a Diesel, so some typically Diesely "clickaty clack" injector noise is to be expected I've not looked into the engine mounts on an Octavia so can't say if they can be checked in situ or not, I've not read on here about it being an issue and I'd be surprised unless yours has done ridiculous miles? Light throttle jerkiness can be anything in the transmission and is called transmission shunt, the engine will move a little but it should be controlled. It can (though rarely) be items such as a loose driveshaft (tinkling coming from one wheel) or other worn out parts in the drivetrain, but again, these aren't known issues as far as I'm aware and I wouldn't start looking for them unless your car has had a hard life... My 2007 RS has done 125k *kilometres* and there's a noticeable, if not excessive, degree of shunt in the transmission in 1st and 2nd gear If you can maybe take a video of the noise, and post it on here via Youtube or something, either myself or one of the proper knowledgeable folks would be able to ID it pretty sharpish
  8. How fast is the tapping, is it regular or does it only happen when the engine revs or load is applied? All engines rock, they're mounted via rubber to the chassis to prevent engine vibrations being transferred to the passenger cabin, but if the rubber degrades you can get metal on metal contact which causes a noise If you think it's the tensioner you could probably have a decent stab at locating the source of the noise by placing the metal end on the timing cover and your ear against the other, it'll be obvious if the noise is coming from the area where you're touching
  9. No worries, it looks pretty clear in the advert that they're only fit for 1.4/1.6 litre TSI vehicles Eibach have the same 1050kg spring for all models, perhaps Vogtland decided they should make two different kits? If you fit it, it may or may not be liable to breakage, but it's almost certainly been designed for a lighter engine vehicle so you could be undersprung Might not be much different as a static load, it's beyond my knowledge what happens when things start bouncing around though...
  10. Having done two DMFs on two different cars the first symptom of a failing DMF has been a distinctive clunk when the engine starts...
  11. I'm looking at the Eibach catalog online and I don't see and option for the Mk II (1Z) Octavia with front axle loading of 1020kg The only 1020kg set I see is for the Mk I (1U) What's the exact part number on the box? I'm half way through fitting my Pro Kit set so the knowledge is fresh in my mind right now
  12. This is normal, Skoda calls it "Cold Start Testing" or something similar When you first turn on the ignition, the CANBUS system tests each bulb by sending a very short pulse of electric through the circuit The pulse is shorter than the time it takes for a filament bulb to heat up and produce light, but LEDs illuminate instantly, so you see the flashing routine you witnessed Ans yes, if the CANBUS detects a fault with a bulb it will refuse to send more current to that bulb until you cycle the ignition
  13. Always one, and it's usually me!! You can't just disregard one aspect of a comparison though, it's like saying compare them without mentioning the the petrol is faster, it's meaningless...
  14. Mad install, very nice, but I have a question... What was it about the standard braking that you found lacking? I've had my vRS for a year or so now and the brakes are probably the only part I've not considered tinkering with Not criticising at all, like I say it looks very tidy, just wondering...
  15. As above, I'd wager that there's an alignment issue to cause weirdness like that... For the cost of four decent tyres I'd spend the ~£60 for a proper four wheel alignment otherwise you could end up with buggered tyres after a short while all over again... A speedo under-read of 3 or 4 percent will likely be well within the over-read that all cars have...

  17. Wasn't an Octavia but when the same thing happened on my old Focus it was a problem with the scuttle panel at the base of the screen When they serviced it they broke a plastic clip that help it flush against the glass and it was then sitting proud, allowing water to flow in, gather in the pollen filter and then drip through the vents into the passenger footwell Not sure if the Octavia would also do this...
  18. Haha, that sounds about right... I also forgot to mention, When I took the car in for it's annual yesterday the tech was able to code out the main beam failure warnings, didn't even mention it as I thought it was impossible!! Also fixed my upside down window issue too
  19. A mere snip at just over ten times the price of the ebay specials though Ignorning me being a bellend and forgetting where I put the pack, the Philips would need to last ten years to make them financially equal in cost per lifespan...
  20. Just a couple more pictures of the Litec units...
  21. Sums it up nicely... Get a decent sized pack, I've yet to find an LED W5W bulb that last more than a year...
  22. My vRS is currently in the workshop having belt and water pump done, as well as the aux belt(s?) - little did I realise the previous owner hadn't bothered Means it's done ten years and 125,000km on the original belts
  23. Just an update, as per the thread over in the wheels section, my mechanic doesn't think I'll have any issues with the wheels as they are, even when lowered
