Full Size Spare Wheel
Well I’ve ordered a set of 4 Michelin pilot sport 4 which will be available in a couple of weeks (not needed desperately) so now I just have the dilemma of whether to blow another £280 ish on a new vega and re-use the best of the old tyres on the damaged alloy as a full size spare or just get the tyre place to let me have back the best old one for later use and maybe do it further down the line. I did catch the damaged one again very slightly leaving work the other day so I’m now caught between wanting to replace it more and not tempting fate to damage a new one the same way.....

Sasha’s Superb SportLine Plus
Sounds like you had a fun day (not!) while some of us were sleeping from night shifts! Excellent news you’ve gone for that sportline that a few of us had also said about, much better baseline to start with considering it already has the vc and camera etc plus newer and low miles. Look forward to the new thread for mods and pics.

The 280PS Thread
28 miles each way (24 if I go a different route through a nearby major town) with the first 8-10 miles being back roads then motorway for my work and I get around 30-34 going in (downhill to motorway) then between 24-28 coming home depending on if I behave or not. Overall average is around 27.5mpg for me after 5-6k miles ownership. Lovely car to drive but it’s not ever gonna be economical! My last superb was a diesel 140bhp and that only averaged around 38 on the same driving....

Help me choose new alloys
If the top ones are the vega’s then I’d say those! That’s what’s fitted to mine and I think they look great

That 26k one looks pretty good if it’s in your budget and the original one isn’t as expected plus it’s already got vc, the boot pedal and the camera fitted with only 6k miles!

Awww crap I didn’t realise you weren’t buying from a Skoda dealer this time. Hope you either can get them to play ball and deliver on what’s been agreed or find another one. I did notice there was a dragon green 280 on the Skoda search the other day but it was silly money so probably not in your budget. Keep us updated....

Passenger door central locking
If you have access to any diagnostic scanner (vcds, Carista, vag can pro etc) it would be worth checking for fault codes. Mine went into the dealers this week for routine service work and I checked with VCDS before as the rear passenger door hadn’t unlocked with the other doors (also the internal lock button was not illuminating when it should) and it listed four fault codes. The dealer has ordered a new door lock under warranty though luckily it is still working at the moment...

Full Size Spare Wheel
Since this thread popped up again I’ve been thinking about doing something with the space saver on my 280 as I slightly scraped one of my 19” Vega’s on a kerb after a hard 12 hour night shift a while back. the damage is fairly minor and I’m sure could be repaired but as I’m due a full set of tyres imminently (3-4mm left all corners) I was thinking of getting a replacement Vega and transferring the damaged one with it’s still legal tyre (Bridgestone potenza non directional) to the spare and replacing the tyre on it at a later date. I know it will involve raising the boot floor slightly and that’s fine. So, on to part numbers - I’ve found two and wondered if anyone can tell me which is the cheaper but identical variant before I approach the dealer? Part numbers are 3V0 601 025 AP HA7 & 3V0 071 499 G HA7 Google searching finds the first one available U.K. for £272.60 (https://www.theskodashop.co.uk/collections/skoda-wheels/products/skoda-alloy-wheel-vega-19) while the other only comes up abroad but that one does list both part numbers on the details (https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/3v0601025apha7-aluminium-disc-19-vega-skoda-35856.html) Any advice which should be cheapest appreciated! I will probably contact my local dealer Friday morning anyway but it would be good to have as much info as possible to avoid being fleeced....

Getting rid of the Superb, what next...
Crikey £13k loss in a year is a tough pill to swallow but I assume a large chunk of that was the costs of the mods you had done and undone and the repairs prior to selling. I can understand the idea of cutting your losses, I considered the same on my mk2 when the clutch destroyed the gearbox and cost me £2k to fix but ultimately I kept the car another couple of years with no issues after the repair. Hopefully you will be happy with your new car as is then, clearly the 280 though a fantastic car was never quite right for you since I read most of the posts you made regarding the various mods you either did or wanted to do such as exhaust noise etc. I’m really pleased with mine and aside from the pedal box to sort the throttle response and installing the sub it’s staying that way until it’s paid for (sep 2022 all things to plan) and out of warranty (this sep unless I can get a decent extended warranty from Skoda (otherwise I won’t bother). Then it’ll be Revo stage 1 with no other mods and that’ll do me for the life of the car I reckon. (God knows it’s plenty quick enough even now but I like the idea of it being a 360bhp sleeper for those moments I really want to upset the bmw/Mercedes reps on the motorway)

Do they still have the factory “safety” mod meaning you can’t close from the button as well then without a vcp mod?

Getting rid of the Superb, what next...
So come on and answer the question we all want to know, how did the 280 get sold and does the new owner (dealer or private) know the full history since your ownership??? And was it ever properly fixed before being disposed of or is that someone else’s timebomb now?

Sasha’s Superb SportLine Plus
Guessing it has the electric boot from that interior photo? Suppose that’ll be getting the old vcp mod if so that was the one thing I was a little surprised and disappointed to discover mine didn’t have though the manual boot is just fine for me and I don’t miss the old twin door I had before even though it was quite clever. (Was glad I never suffered the wiring failure too!)

Pity it’s not a 280 but can’t wait to follow the mods! You certainly seem to know what you’re doing and get things done. great colour though and glad you finally got that dragon green you wanted.

2018 Superb. How does Adaptive cruise, front assist, emergency brake, and blind spot work in real life?
I would imagine when following traffic that’s slowing gently it probably just backs off the throttle like you would traditionally do and probably does not actually show the brake lights but if it needs to then it definitely does brake by itself. One good example I can think of is when trying to get into lane 1 from lane 2 on a busy motorway in front of a lorry with a big enough gap - I indicate and pull in still on cruise but then it decides the gap to the car in front is too small so it brakes and then I get flashed from behind by the (clearly annoyed) lorry driver who thinks I’m brake testing him. Obviously not my intention but there’s not much you can do in that situation except disengage cruise before such a move and then gradually slow down to keep a safe gap in front and behind.

Heated washer nozzles
I checked my emergency bottle I keep in the boot and it’s 1 part screen wash to 2 parts water for -16 degrees and 4 parts water for summer hence I’ve always gone for the middle ground of 3 water as that should still cope with freezing temperatures we get in the uk.
-
Heated washer nozzles
Glad to see it’s not just me having frozen washer jets then! in my old superb mk2 I never had this problem and have always used genuine concentrate from the dealers at a ratio of 1L concentrate to 3L water with no issues. My last batch is not oem from ebay due to lockdown hassles getting from the dealers but it’s supposed to be the same spec. I was wondering if it’s the stuff I’m using or the ratio needs to be increased. I’m down to the last litre of concentrate so might to a 1 to 2L ratio this time and go back to the oem stuff in future then. damn annoying coming home from a night shift without being able to clean the front screen!!!

The 280PS Thread
Good luck with the super chips, I’d be interested to hear how it goes anyway. I don’t think it’s a case of badmouthing as such but I’ve noticed the vast majority of 272/280 owners on here seem to have had theirs revo’d with good results whereas I haven’t found anyone who had used the super chips offering for this engine. Binarysheep had a nightmare with his custom independent map too. When I had my old mk1 octy vRS and wanted to map it (never did though) everyone seemed to recommend a couple of custom mappers and nobody was using the likes of revo or super chips for those engines. Horses for courses I suppose.

Sportline front passenger seat - how flat does it fold backwards?
Or invest in some easily removable roof bars and keep the interior the way it’s meant to be, free from wood splinters!

The 280PS Thread
I went with a bluefin on my last car (mk2 diesel superb) and it was brilliant in that instance, 138 to 171 bhp and properly noticeable increase in power (0-60 went from 9.8 secs to 8 dead in the gps runs I did before selling it) I took the map off before selling and still have the handset which is actually compatible with both my mk3 280 and my wife’s 1.2 Fabia but I just wouldn’t trust it on an engine of this power especially as the performance figures are well below that of revo and all the others. (330bhp ish vs 360) and the cost to “reset” my handset and use again is still over £300 (I paid £430 initially) so I’d much rather take it for a revo knowing it is better backed up support and research wise. There’s also the horror story that another 280 owner on here has had using a less well known independent tuner whereas I’ve yet to hear anything bad about the revo maps.
-
Remapped and now turbo has gone
I’d agree with others and say get it sorted, suck it up and keep it knowing it’ll be reliable as you’ve had it done properly vs the unknown of another car. I’d also agree with others (as I’ve stated before) saying that the tuner you’ve chosen is not a reliable map and I’d have got it off at the first sign of trouble when the turbo went. Obviously an expensive bitter pill to swallow but the likes of revo have a good reputation for a reason. There’s always someone who knows someone who can do it cheaper and there’s usually a good reason why that’s a bad idea....

Is a Superb 272 calling me?
I went with Dynamo cover when I got mine on a 4 year return to invoice policy which cost me £165 on a £20k purchase price. probably money I’ll never see back but peace of mind and considering the near death out of body experience I had this morning on some unexpected black ice nearing a crossroads maybe it’s a good thing to have....
-
Decisions, decisions....and so it starts
Can’t comment on the canton as mine doesn’t have it but simply installing my 12” sub with 500w rms amp and an audio controls LC2i plus remote has improved mine no end to the point I’m happy with the rest being stock
-
Is a Superb 272 calling me?
Yep they are definitely quick cars even in standard form. I’ve logged my 280 at 5.2 secs 0-60 with a gps dongle plugged in via my phone, maybe not as accurate as proper timing gear but a couple of runs it was consistently there. it really is brutal acceleration and very easy to find yourself going a lot faster than you should be if you let it. god knows what these stage 1 and 2 people are getting to experience! Hopefully one day I’ll go stage 1 on mine but it’s certainly no slouch at the moment.

Skoda dropping diesels ?
Yeah I’m with Colin above, bought my first and only diesel in 2016 and then discovered it was a diesel gate engine (never had it done though as I put the bluefin remap on it instead) but I vowed quite quickly it would be my first and only diesel after that knowing it was going to kill the market and diesel wouldn’t really recover (despite all the technological gains the manufacturers have made on them). getting the 280 was a dream for me that I never seriously thought would happen but I’m glad it did. Knowing the U.K. government is hell bent on destroying the car industry as we know it and keeps moving the goalposts my plan is to keep my 2018 model going until around 2028/2029 and then try to buy one of the last 280/272/whatever the highest power petrol engine they’re still doing and run that as long as possible before switching to a totally impractical electric car and hope that by then there’s actually a decent range and charging infrastructure available plus the new pricing has to seriously drop too! I stretched myself paying £20k now and I can’t imagine how we are all expected to find double that for a bloody scalextrik car considering used ones of an affordable age will all have knackered batteries....

2018 Superb. How does Adaptive cruise, front assist, emergency brake, and blind spot work in real life?
Emergency braking saved me today while reversing back down a lane into a side turning as a lorry was backing up towards me for a horse even though I was watching the camera with the low light I obviously got too close to the verge for the sensors as it kicked in and anchored me up solid before I hit anything! second time it’s done that in reverse.
