  1. Doesn't agree with what Skoda UK told me last month. You could always go to their website and ask them via the chat window, that's what I did...
  2. Of course people are supposed to check mirrors but they often don't, or have been watching cars behind and missed one catching up. Given that I think it's still safer to have a bigger warning light that's harder to miss.
  3. Probably a good thing for safety, the existing small illuminated sign in the mirror isn't obvious unless you're looking directly at it, the new light should be much more obvious when seen out of the corner of your eye.
  4. Given that all it takes to swap between D and S is a quick pull on the DSG lever, why leave it in S all the time if the noise bothers you? Leave it in D, when you want to go somwhere quickly shift to S, when you're done shift back to D. Dead easy...
  5. Recently when I've got into my car, started and driven off, after a few seconds the audio stops and the green phone symbol lights up on the Columbus display -- when I switch to the phone page it's calling "unknown number" (but not making any ringing noises), if I terminate the call everything goes back to normal. But my phone (OnePlus3 connected via Bluetooth) doesn't show any outgoing call in the call log, it's as if the car thinks it's making a call but the phone isn't actually doing it. Any ideas? Looked for any options on both car and phone that could affect this but can't find anything...
  6. Because it's the obvious choice for people who want Brexit to happen regardless of the consequences? Total vote share for pro-Brexit parties (Brexit, UKIP) was 35%. Total vote share for pro-Remain parties (LibDem, Green, Change, Plaid Cymru, SNP) was 40%. If we take the 14% Labour vote as 60/40 remain/Brexit and the 9% Tory vote as 80:20 Brexit/remain (which fits with other polls) then we get 52% Remain and 48% Brexit. In other words, the country is still pretty much split down the middle, just like at the referendum. So whether we end up remaining or leaving, about half of the people are going to be mightily *****d off with the other half... 😞
  7. It is when your lease car is due to go back in August 😞 Luckily VWF are happy to extend it for up to 3 months with no hassle 🙂
  8. According to Skoda UK today price list is due in June, launch/first orders in July, which would put first deliveries in October with current lead times.
  9. I'm not interested in the hybrid, would go for a 272ps L&K and can't find any info -- Skoda UK say price list will be released in June, open for orders (not hybrid, that'll be later?) in July.
  10. Where did you find those prices? Looked yesterday and there's nothing officially released in the UK...
  11. To see whether the "list price" exceeds 40K: https://www.am-online.com/data/ved-rules-from-april-2017 List price This is the price provided by the manufacturer / dealer, and reflects the vehicle list price on the day before it is first registered and taxed. o This does not include first registration fee o This does not include any service or warranty packages sold with the vehicle o This does not include any non-standard dealer fitted options o This does include any factory fit options o This does include delivery and PDI charges o This does include any discounted options, at their full list price o Vehicles will be listed at their full Price, discounts (including any grants provided to electric vehicles) are not taken in to account So it's perfectly possible to have the total price (before discounts) go over 40k without getting hit by extra tax, if the items in bold are subtracted and the result is under 40k.
  12. Me too -- the good news is... "The new Superb will be revealed in full during the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, of which Skoda is the long-standing main sponsor, in Bratislava later this month. " I thought it might not be launched until Frankfurt in September which would be too late for me (lease ends in September), so happy now :-)
  13. The stop-start on mine (220 DSG) restarts when you lift your foot off the brake. It only waits until you press the accelerator if you have the auto handbrake enabled.
  14. Isn't the point about a multiplate wet clutch pack that when slipping there isn't any metal-to-metal (or metal-to-plate-material) contact, the "slip" is dealt with by shear in the transmission fluid? So when you slip the fluid gets hot (which is why it needs a cooler) and the plates get hot (because they're immersed in the hot fluid) but the plates shouldn't wear? Engaging and disengaging the clutch moves the plates together or apart so the fluid slips more or less, it doesn't rely on surface friction which is what causes wear.
  15. Because a Formula 1 driver who might be pulling 4G under braking or cornering might just want to keep both hands on the wheel all the time? I get it, you like having paddles -- but saying they're essential on the road unless you drive like a pensioner is just plain wrong, the DSG lever works just fine...
  16. So it's just too much effort to push the DSG lever sideways into manual mode and then flick it backwards or forwards?
  17. For cars which are completely new models I'd agree, there's more risk of gremlins shortly after introduction. For minor updates like the Superb I'm not convinced -- apart from styling changes things like the virtual cockpit are already in production, and I can't see the LED lights causing major problems -- in fact maybe less so than the adaptive HID ones which do seem to have occasional problems with the motorised shutters (but mine have been trouble-free).
  18. I'd hope that was the case, at least on the L&K if not the lower-spec models...
  19. It's not just brightness and basic beam pattern, LEDs allow much better active beam control than the simple motorised shutter system used in the current HID lights.
  20. There won't be a 220tsi, only the 184tsi or 272tsi.
  21. Those are the reasons I'm looking at extending my lease past September. Trouble is nobody still knows for sure when the facelift model will be available for order/delivery, even if it's officially launched at Frankfurt in September...
  22. The Superb configurator and pricelist still shows the 2018 model, no facelift changes yet -- maybe because... https://www.carbuyer.co.uk/news/167218/facelifted-skoda-superb-will-be-available-as-a-hybrid "The facelifted Skoda Superb will be officially revealed before the end of 2019 - potentially at the Frankfurt Motor Show - before going on sale in 2020. " That sucks, a launch at Frankfurt in September probably means too late for me :-(
  23. The loophole which they can close is to either stop offering big discounts (e.g. 3 grand on a Superb) only to PCP customers (and not cash ones), or offer the same discount to both. Until they do this, cash buyers who are "in the know" will take advantage of the PCP discount and then pay the finance off in full. Maybe they don't care if only a small fraction of the ~20% of cash buyers do this -- even if they did they could offer 2.5k off to everyone and not lose any money.
  24. The Superb meets my needs better than the E-class did -- more space in rear and boot, better equipped, as comfortable and good to drive, and much better value. The badge I don't care about, except that other drivers are nicer to you in a Skoda than a Mercedes...
