  1. Ok good, thanks. I assumed that must be the case, otherwise it seems to defeat the whole point of the ACC! I have a Mk2 Octy so I'm used to having to reset every time some spanner pulls out in front of me - looking forward to not doing that anymore.

What about in traffic? Do the manual and DSG versions work the same (aside from manual gear changes of course)?

  2. On a slightly related note, what's the difference with using ACC with manual or DSG? For instance, can you change gear in the manual without it cancelling the ACC, as it does with regular cruise control? I've ordered a manual so I'm curious what the differences will be. Incidentally, I would've really liked a DSG but finances mean it will have to wait for next time, hopefully, as it would've pushed the monthly payments up too high for my budget.

  3. Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm after a basic 1.6DTI SE Business in Pacific Blue ideally, but would consider a basic SEL. I suspect most showroom cars will have metallic and a few options which kills it for me.

Metallic paint but doesn't appear to have any extras, unless not listed. Good price for anyone who's looking, nice find!

  4. I couldn't find any press reports on the green line, so had a look for reports on the Bluemotion Passat which is mechanically almost identical and they all said that the long gearing made it hard work round town where you were always in a lower gear than you'd be in the regular car. I can only assume it would be the same.

Sorry, that was what I was getting at when I said sluggish. I too found it difficult to find information/reviews. I guess with its delay over the other engines Skoda haven't gotten it around motoring journalists yet.

  5. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just put her in the boot? ;)

    Yes. And quieter :)

I've seen that one, take it you're happy with it then? Sadly it won't protect against what happened on our journey to Cornwall at Easter - bag of crisps opened too vigorously and exploded all over the back of the car. Imagine the mess...

  6. Not driven one and actually considered the greenline myself, but was put off by reports that it was a bit sluggish and slightly lacking in power. I was a private buyer so a bit different, but given the fairly small difference in economy/tax and the extra £1500ish for the GL, I decided I might as well get the 2.0 and the significant extra power (I'm buying SE L Exec so couldn't get a smaller engine anyway, apart from GL).

  7. Funny she describes it as not cool, when we told our 27 year old son we were getting a Skoda Superb, he virtually disowned us, he had his first look and ride in it yesterday and without prompting uttered the word....Cool☺

Ha! I told my step-son I had a new Superb on order the other day. His response was to laugh a lot and then say "to be fair, I don't really know what that looks like". So I showed him. He quickly changed his opinion!

  8. Spent a lot of time agonising over this last night and this morning. After fiddling around with figures and options I've come to the conclusion that with the mileage I'm looking at (only 15k miles) it adds a big chunk onto the monthly cost to get the L&K - nearly £30 - which is taking it above what I want to pay. I'd get a lot more kit for this extra £40 but it's stuff I'd already resigned myself to not having.

So then I thought I'd see if I could just save by buying an SE L through them, but factoring in the higher APR from NCD it comes out at virtually exactly the same price as I've got it through the dealer, who I managed to get a fairly big discount from thanks to carwow anyway.

So it looks like I'm sticking with the SE L from the dealer on this occasion. And three years down the line I can think about an L&K model because I'll be able to. It may even by an L&K Kodiaq by then becaue I'm really liking the look of that!

  9. Can you not just cancel and say you have just been made redundant to get your deposit back?....i'm saving over £8k on mine going with NCD!

I might give it a try. The worst they can say is no I suppose. Just been looking it up - as far as I can tell, I don't think I have any legal right to cancel because I signed a form at the dealership. Potentially could just pull out anyway but then might lose the £500 I've put down already.

  10. The only downside I can find is the side edges and corners of the protector are a little sharp. Care is needed when washing the bumper!

I would rate the fitment at about 90% if i'm honest. If you look at the previous pictures, it protrudes at each end a little more than I'd like. But overall I am still very happy with it.

And damn those Billy bookcases........ :D

Yet another reason why I'm quite happy to pay someone else to clean my car for me. Mainly laziness, but this too.

A little protruding or potentially a scratch or dent? It's a shame it's not a more snug fit, but if it saves expensive/unsightly damage then I'll accept it. Especially after doing such damage with a sofabed before. And 90% is pretty damn happy!

Aaaaaagh! IKEA. The Devil's shop dstev2000

I quite like Ikea...not the experience of actually shopping there so much, but some of the furniture is pretty good for the price, like the solid wood stuff. It's also very convenient being less than 10 minutes away in Coventry. Ok, it's not "proper" furniture but it's a fraction of the cost too. And most importantly, I love their meatballs and gravy! :D
  11. The polished version looks like it will show up scrapes and scratches faster than the brushed stainless version will. My stainless one still looks good, even though its had few scrapes so far.

It stood up to family holiday duties pretty well!

Good thinking and thanks for helping me to make my mind up. Added to my "will be ordering this list".

Family holidays is one thing, manoeuvring large, heavy IKEA boxes into is the ultimate challenge :) I broke one of the the side net things in the boot of my Octavia years ago when a Billy bookcase accidentally dropped onto it.

  12. I go to a hand car wash and get inside and out spruced up for £10. I am lazy and I absolutely hate cleaning cars, so call me lazy all you want :) It's money well spent for me. I want it clean and looking nice, but I'm damned if it's going to be me doing it!

Been using them for quite a while, it's literally round the corner from my house, they do a great job of cleaning the entire car in and out and never had any damage from them. I can pay more every so often for a mini valet or full valet as needed, but taking the car to them every couple of weeks for £10 a pop keeps it all pretty decent.

I've seen people taking their Porshe, Ferrari and even a Lambo to them, so I figure if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me :)
