Popped into poundland on the back of this thread and picked up one of their wardrobe dehumidifers. I have to say, it's made an astounding difference to the car in the morning. It used to be full of mist, whilst now I can get in and quite happily drive away. I have it on the back of the passenger seat at the moment, and it seems to be doing it's job nicely.
No idea how often I'll need to replace it but definitely worth it, plus it smells of "ocean mist"

Hi all,
Trying to diagnose why my fuel economy has dropped significantly along with performance.
I've cured sticking vanes with mr Muscle and some careful wiggling along with some good hard runs.
I've got fuel + air filters ordered as they need doing soon anyway.
I'm only getting 30-40mpg where I used to be getting 50-60 on a good day.
I've plugged in Torque Pro and no issues reported. Not had chance to grab my laptop with VAGCOM installed yet though.
My best guesses are MAP/MAF sensors. Can anyone provide any insight how to check these in VAGCOM/VCDS using the measuring blocks?
Edit to add: 1.9 ATD PD100 engine

I have the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance on my 1.9 tdi estate. Made a phenonmenal difference to the car and in the wet, it just sticks to the road like muck to a shovel.

I've tried the cheaper LED bulbs and they turned into magical smoke.
By all accounts the newer ones are better and popular in motorbikes etc. but they're quite expensive.

For what it's worth, I paid £150 labour and £150ish parts for both suspension arms, and the rear axle bushes to be done.
Unfortunately I don't have a breakdown of individual prices

Console bushes and the water ingress through the rear doors are the two Fabia problems I've come across with mine

Thinking about it, you wouldn't even need the microcontroller or more than one relay. I was overcomplicating the situation.
All you need is a relay that is powered by the ignition connected to the wiper stalk intermmitent wire, which breaks the circuit when the ignition is off. Therefore it'd make zero difference whether the wipers were left on or off.

For the wiper stalk, you could wire up a microcontroller or some relays, such that if the ignition is not live but the wiper stalk is, then it beeps through a little speaker.
I've been tempted to do the same for my headlights because my door switch is broken and that's a real pain to strip and fix....

I have the estate with the fixed roof rails too.
When I bought my bars there was quite a bit of choice. 110cm to 150cm. 110 doesn't give you much extra length hanging over the rail. For example, if you want to wrap some straps around. 130 probably ideal.
The bit that clamps to the rails, you just need it so it fits roof rails. I was using Suzuki ones fine.

Hi all,
I've got the original roof bars on my Fabia, but want to get some of the roof bars that go across so I can actually put stuff on top.
I've been eyeing up some of the cheapies on ebay but they come in different sizes and I can't find anything definitive on which sizes suits a Fabia Estate
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've stuck mine through te CTEK recondition mode, but Skoda manual and CTEK manual both advise doing it with battery disconnected from the car due to the higher 15v+ voltages.
I used it on a smaller battery on a different car after it had been sat and drained entirely and it did seem to do the trick.

What brand of battery is it? Some of the cheaper ones are naff at best

Seats/switches/loom for heated seats are valuable as far as I'm aware.
CD Player might be worth a few quid. Alloys definitely. Small bits like heater vents etc. may also be of use to someone.
If I'm scrapping a car, I'll also keep useful bits, like screws, fuses, relays etc.
Cut out the seatbelts as well, they make fantastic straps to tie things together etc.

Noticed a couple of "odd" things on my Fabia:
1. Brake lights come on when the pedal is pressed, when engine turned off, and no key in the ignition.
2. Fag lighter will charge things, again when engine off.
3. The lights on "warning" buzzer sounds if you turn the engine off whilst one of the indicators is on.
Any thoughts?
1. All the cars I've driven do this, pretty sure it's a safety thing
2. Normal, VAG cars do this. You can add a relay to switch it off when the ignition is off if you are so inclined
3. As moley described, it's to do with the parking lights mode.

Is the apparently to spec G13 coolant that's premixed on eBay and available for around £15 for 5l any good compared to the real stuff?
I'd rather do things properly if there's a marked difference, I'm conscious that the pd engines can throw their toys out

Hi all,
Bit of an on the offchance question whilst I'm in England and have the chance.
I've been looking for the sliding boot cover for my estate since I got it, and having searched the part number on an ebay listing, the listing gave the part number for an octavia sized cover, of which there are more and they're cheaper.
Does the Octvaia Estate take the same size boot cover or is that wishful thinking? £20 vs £50 so...

It does it on dipped beam as well.
All of the lights flicker off for a split second and I swear I hear a relay click as well.
Alternator seems fine and has had the load wire/exciter wire repaired

Hi all,
Got a 1.9tdi 2002 Estate and it has picked up a new habit.
I've only really noticed it at night, but it's happened at least half a dozen times now...
When driving down the road, for a split second the lights will go off and back on again.
It did it once today and interestingly, the lights on the dashboard went off as well (clock backlight etc).
Anyone know what I should be checking? Are there any relays etc.?

A good Italian tune-up is worth doing sometimes. Just a nice full throttle pull through the gears on the flat (where safe to do so)
I did take it for a longer than usual drive on de-restricted roads the day after the Mr Muscle treatment which I think helped, along with letting it go through the rev ranges,
The temptation with torquey diesels is to let them chug along near idle and shift quite soon but it seems to appreciate being revved higher

MAF and MAP seemed to be fine. (Expected pretty much matched actual)
Fuel temp sensors and coolant temp sensors seemed to be reading fine as well.
No error codes logged. Anything else I can checked?
