  1. Hi all Been hearing a few odd noises from under the hood lately, i think since its got colder which i guess is to be expected really. I've got a few I'd like to get identified, im pretty sure its normal. Attached an mp3 of one, this one comes and goes. Its normally a cyclic swooshing noise but its pretty loud in the cabin at times. I lifted the hood and it wasn't so loud compared to the rest of the engine ticking over. Engine was hot but im sure I've heard it from cold before. I've EQ'd it a bit to bring the noise out more so its obvious. More to come when i can record them... 1.2 TSI Noise 1.mp3
  2. Cheers xman, i couldn't work out when the problem had been supposedly fixed. I thought i did read that early 2013 engines might of been affected but i don't know now. I did check on a Skoda website somewhere about any recalls with the car using the VIN number, nothing came up. When i questioned about this problem with the dealer before buying the car they basically denied any knowledge about the issue. You can read them like a book!! Im going to get it serviced i think in Dec as it done quite a few miles after the last service last year and I've put about 1.5K on it since I've had it. It at about 12.5K at the mo. I'd prefer yearly servicing over the variable which they seem to of put it on now, its another 9K on the info display before the next service.... That would be 2 years i guess. Got a few engine noises to investigate, I'll post some examples up when i have something. Hopefully someone will know whats causing them. Its a great car i really like it so far after a few months now. I've come from a 1.8T VW Bora, I've not been left wanting anything from the car which is good. The jury is still out on the reliability side not that it has played up yet. (other than the cold start knocking and other weird noises it makes at times....)
  3. Hi, thanks for the reply. That video isin't my engine but I can get the same higher pitched whine and wondered what it is? The dull knocking I guess it is the pistons, didn't notice it so much back in the summer like you say. It seems quite loud in the cabin of late, dosen't always do it either. A bit alarming to hear but I do take it really easy with low revs until things warm up. I tried record it this morning but it didn't seem as loud as it has been. I guess when temp is around 5/6 deg C and below it's worse. These engines do seem to make some strange noise's at times... I'm still trying to find out about the timing chain thing. My engine No. Is different range to those mentioned in the TPI. I did just post in another thread about that. Mines a 2013, only date I've found is June of that year stamped on the chain cover. As for oil I think they've put it on a variable schedule which I'm not happy about. It would of been due in Dec but they said not to worry about about it until car flags it up. Having checked thats about other 9K miles away. Oils starting to look black now, I have no idea what was put in it. It's been serviced at main dealer from new and will be in the future. Not aware of any chain rattling on start up yet, cars done about 12.5K miles so far so low for its age I guess.
  4. Hi guys. With all the web trawling and reading about this camchain problem I'm still not 100% sure my 2013 TSI is affected or not? The only date code I can find stamped is on the timing chain cover, ??/06/13. I tried to make out the cover part No. to see if it's the same as updated replacement in TPI but hard to fully make out the number. Also my engine No. is different range to those mentioned in the TPI. Mine is CBZBE33537 going by the V5C. Couldn't find it stamped on the engine, any ideas where it is?
  5. Hi guys. Anyone know what the higher pitched whine is this clip? It comes and goes on my 1.2 TSI 105PS. Is it injectors or something? I also get a dull knocking noise when starting from cold which goes after it warmed up or greatly reduced. The knocking get worse when engine under load when pulling away and quite loud in the cabin, not sure outside. Also a repetitive swooshing type noise as well. I recorded that today will try to post up. Didn't manage to capture the knocking though. I read it could be the pistons knocking on these engines? I've never had a car do this before. Cheers
  6. Hi guys Cheers for the replies. l'll check the service history in a bit, it would of been done at main dealers so by the book I would hope. Agree on the brake fluid change this year. I've had a few silly things sorted this week, they where really good. Sparshatts in Botley. I'm glad that the SAI pump has gone, it was a pain in arse when it played up on the 1.8T Bora. Maybe l'll lift the hood before starting in the morning and have a better listen. I'm probably just getting myself at it. One thing I have noticed the last couple of days when leaving work when the temperatures been up (engine cold..) It does the normal higher revs thing for a while then at the end it drops down then kicks in again for a second then drops again. Seems weird to do that but maybe it's normal behaviour? Cheers
  7. I think its due in mid December going by a sticker on the door pillar but will check the service stamps as to what's been done so far. Its had 2 services to date being a late 2013 reg. When i checked the service interval on the display its says 10K miles so i don't know if its on a long life service schedule. I might just get it done anyway in December so i know were I'm at with it, the oil does look a bit darker than I'm used to seeing. The guy at the dealers said it will tell me if it needs replacing early if it needs it as it checks the quality of the oil? Is that correct or is it not that clever?
  8. There is, maybe I'll lift the bonnet and have a look. I'll look into the aircon thing, good call
  9. Sounds like it really doesn't have one then! Weird as i can hear a familiar sound that they make and it behaves like the last car i had with one fitted, just a bit rougher idle.
  10. Hi guys, cheers for the replies. Had the car for about 2 weeks now so getting used to what's normal, with this car anyway! I think it's doing what these engines normally do but I guess they can all be slightly different. I'm sure it has a secondary air pump as you can hear what's like a vacuum cleaner sound for a minute or so on first starting, then it clicks off and the revs drop down to normal and it's much smoother running. It's obviously a bit rougher when the pumps running, I'm used to them as had one on the VW Bora. It just seemed to be a bit rougher than I'm used too, but that was the 1.8T petrol so can't compare really. Also I find from cold starting it fires after a few revolutions on the starter motor where I was used to the 1.8T firing up straight away every time for the last 7 years.
  11. Hi guys First post around here. Picked up a low mileage (11K) late 2013 petrol 1.2 TSI 105PS, fun car car to drive so far and not missing the grunt of the 1.8T petrol i had in the departed VW Bora. Anyway im in the first week of driving it. I notice when i first start from cold the revs will be higher around 1100 which i know is normal and expected with the secondary air pump running for like 90 seconds. Seems a bit rough lumpy while this is going on, again yeah its not going to be really smooth but how rough is normal on these? Also this morning it didn't kick in from cold and the revs stayed below 1000, nearer 800. Still a bit rough for a bit but i waited for a couple of minutes then drove off. Should the air pump always run on first start with these engines? Cheers Gonz
  12. Hi guys. Just brought a 2013 Fabia 1.2 TSI, it's like new car with 11k on it. Gone from a 2002 VW Bora 1.8T petrol, which was a fun great car but getting a bit old now. So down sized with something newer and hopefully cheaper to run. I heard the Fabia growl a bit today when I booted it in 3rd, made me smile
