  1. Pads seized in the carriers or uneven tyre pressures will give an imbalance reading on the rollers
  2. Check the wiring to the plug - too many owners yank on the wiring and damage the plugs. I've got a car here which needs a new engine loom because the previous owner removed several plugs without releasing the catch :S He just yanked them off :(
  3. I've got a pair of carriers off a MK4 golf with solid disks if they fit?
  4. http://http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/catalogue_articles/i_fit.aspx Somewhere here you should find the socket wiring diagram, trace the wires that correspond with the pin numbers on the socket and record the wiring colours. Switch your lights on in turn and record which wire does what by probing the light plugs and record the colours. I always solder, scotchlocks are asking for trouble in the future. Find out first if your Octy is can-bus, it can lead to allsorts of problems!
  5. If you're fitting a towbar then all you need is a 12V tester probe and turn the light in question on and probe the plug that goes to the light. You don't say what year the car is, if its late MK1 it could be can-bus and you need to be carefull if your not going to cause problems:(
  6. According to the Skoda handbook 12 is dash panel, 15 is right high beam:confused:
  7. http://http://www.briskoda.net/forums/technical-guides/skoda-instrument-panel-possible-fix/76004/ Yes I've found his thread, I currently have had my battery disconnected over night, pulling fuse 12 made no difference:confused:
  8. What faults are displaying on the dash, which engine is in your Octy?
  9. I'm having dash problems too 1998 Octy 1600, the fuel gauge is erratic and the speedo not registering, I've only had the car for 2 weeks (ebay) and presume the dash to have an intermiitant fault not disclosed by the seller (all OK on the journey home).
  10. Suddenly the speedos stopped working in my Octy The petrol gauge is erratic too, but the tacho and coolant temp appear normal. In the history with the car there's a mention of a new speed sensor being fitted. Does anyone know where the earth to the clock are? If the clocks prove to be faulty, can the speedo be changed on its own? If the whole pod is faulty is the immobiliser built in like other VAG products? Ta in advance Back to top
  11. Hi, first (daft:D ) question from me, my car purchased yesterday only came with one key, it says in the handbook that there's a tag on the key ring with the number of the encoded key that should be used to replace any lost keys, thats missing too, probably down a drain with the other key:mad: Is this still possible to get a replacement key and is the main dealer the only option for the replacement;) 1998 Octy 1.6 estate with non remote locking:( Thanks in advance:thumbup:

    Hello

First post from a long time lurker:D I've just bought my first Skoda, an octy estate 1.6 on an S plate having long been a vag (slag) fan. I collect it later this week and it replaces my S plate MK3 Golf TDi estate and is in addition to our X plate TDi pd Golf hatch. I can usually be found spouting my nonsence on Car Mechanics forum or defending VAG products to the hilt on Honest Johns forum. No doubt I'll be asking lots of previously asked questions and making myself look stoopid:rolleyes: I'm currently looking for a driverside door mirror and a towbar, so if you have them growing in your garden shout out:D
