  2. Jon, Thats fine no problems with starting from mine/parking cars. It will be easy for Des to leave the M4 at Swindon and go via the A419 towards Cirencester my place is easy can pm details once sorted. I am driving to Precott tonight so will have an idea how long it takes from mine. I intended leaving earlyish to watch some of the cars start. John
  3. Not problem at all, can park off road at my house, can sort out at Prescott or before. John
  4. Yep got pack today. Come in no 62,65 and 66 your tiimes up................. I am no 61 Jon is no 62 Des is no 65 Stuart is no 66 The running order and numbering is based on car year, the sheet shows a total of 67 cars , the oldest being a 1954 MG Magnette ZA. My start time is 10:45 at Prescott so the others can be worked out at 2 min intervals. The car plate is made of a soft plastic with holes for cable ties and the self adhesive side numbers are about 4" tall. I would think the plate and the numbers could if wished be placed in the front and side windows as long as they are visible to the judges etc. John - Driver Val - Co Driver John

Also you are welcome to dump your stuff at my house if reqd and pick up afterwards. Give me a pm or call my mob no (no in a PM to you) John
  6. I thought it was sucking humbugs that gave you that grin, now I know its the car;) Welome Geoff enjoy John
  7. The Haynes service and repair manual has good electrical wiring diagrams that seem to be the original skoda diags. I have scanned the page, hope it helps
  8. I asked the organiser the following questions and got a very prompt response that was a good sign of the organisation:- 1. Will there be a briefing at each of the venues regarding safety/driving tips/line etc?. 2. How may cars do you expect on the tracks at South Cerney/Castle Combe at the same time? 3. Are the venues open for Spectators especially South Cerney and Castle Combe. Response .... Glad you are looking forward to it. We did the final run of the route yesterday and all is looking good. As cars are running at one minute intervals, it is difficult to have a group briefing before each venue. We therefore include very detailed information in the route book, which we ask people to read carfully. In addition, each start marshal at each venue is well briefed and will provide any additional information. At all venues, exept Castle Combe, cars will start at 30 second intervals, therefore there should be little or no overtaking on any of the tracks. With this in mind, there is likely to be only four cars somewhere on track at South Cerney. At Castle Combe we are allowed 10 cars on the track at any one time. Other than at Prescott and Castle Combe, where there are specific areas, we do not encourage spectators. However, it will be possible at the other venues, but only after consultation with the marshals. I hope this answers your queries. Look forward to seeing you next Sunday. Best regards Simon
  9. I am insured through Frizzell's, they contacted the underwritter a couple of times with answers to a number of questions the details of what the event was. I mentioned all the tracks e.g castle combe racing circuit etc etc. and exactly what the event was described as. The operator even mentioned the word performace during our conversation that it was ok as long as it wasn't timed or any racing was involved. Obviously when I take part I will be very careful not to put myself or car at unessesary risk.
  10. er my brain hurts 2 but I did follow the instructions precicely I think
  11. Mailed the organisors for advise, they advised I speak to my own insurance co and then to the event insurers, contacted my insurance co and was advised that I am insured as long as there is no timing or racing - I gave them the event description and details of all venues used - so thats fine and I dont need to give them any details of dates etc.
  12. Stuart, RE: would also like to bring my son as a passenger (ok with the organisers) & let Wendy drive some bits & she has never driven on a track before ... Cant see anywhere in the rules about children, on the booking form there is a box for the number of children under 16 (free) so I dont see as its a problem. The price covers driver and another driver/codriver. If you are interseted I should speak to the organiser as the closing date was on Monday officially. I suggest you email re suitability of your car (I would have thought it would be fine)and other concerns. - I emailed a query and got a quick response. [email protected] 01935 424873 John
  13. Thanks Jon Keep it on the black bits? LOL A bit like drving and overtaking on on Autobahns then. My main concern is if other drivers obey the no overtaking in corners and me keeping to the racing line. I assume the overall safety to a large degree is governed by the strictness of the organisers with offenders. Is it normal to overtake on the left?
  14. Just received aceptance, rules etc ...... also, will be my first track event in the car ....and Val is my navigator - may see you there or see you screem past I hope there are some other novices taking part - any tips Jon and Des?:
  15. Got my form, now booked Any of you guys have any info re insurance as mentioned on the application re- road and track. prices and recomendation welcome.
  16. SLX's from about nov1999 MY2000 came with climate control and Grundig single cd 8 speaker set up - at the same time the 1.8 20v non turbo engine was dropped and replaced by the 2.0 8v unit the 1.8T 150bhp unit was also available costing IIRC about
  17. Jon, Sounds great will look into it (either taking part or spectating), should at least be able to see the event at South Cerney airfield as thats where I live:D not on the airfield though. Requested an application form - not received yet - will apply just need to re-arrange a birthday party looking forward to it:D
  18. I have found that the rear speakers of my RS are definately uprated units to that fitted to my 2.0 SLX (physically the RS are heavier and have bigger magnets), agree with the carpet cover. Dont know if there are any differences with the fronts as I have never looked. Also remember the 2.0 is a pre facelift model but assume they are the same in teh elagance that iit was replaced by. L&K's should be the same as the RS as the brochures state these are uprated over the other models.
  19. Dont use the coin holder I assumed it would hold
  20. The first RS's (200 red I think) to hit the dealers cars had 16" as you are aware, the next UK orders had 17", then a bit later 2002MY had a couple of other changes flick key, blue tinted side mirrors and retractable radio areial. Later in 2002 the RS's had the dark headlining. John
  21. 1. No coil pack problems 13,500 miles MY2002 RS 2. No rattles in my RS or my 2.0 Octavia (35,000 mile) both stil drive the same as the day I picked them up from new. 3. Quality control excellent on both cars. 4. No problem with dealer - been extreemly helpful on a number of ocassions (Winner garage Cinderford) 5. No paintwork flaking at all, paintwork to a high standard on both - no noticable orage peel. 6. No problems with any steaming up of lights. 7. Yes I had a water leak from RS rear hatch - needed body shop repair with sealant re-applied to roof panel/hinge area and respraying - all sorted under warranty - an unusual problem I was told - need seats to be replaced in rear as they were water damaged - again sorted under warranty. 8. Have cruise fitted - and use it as a speed limiter to prevent looking at speedo all the time and getting carried away with silly speeds. 9. Have reversing sensors fitted - IMHO these are the no 1 ac cesory excellent, John
  22. If xenon headlamps are fitted to a car its a legal requirment to have headlight washers - so the 2 go hand in hand. Not sure if they are an option without xeons in other parts of Europe.
  23. Bumped into Jon trying to take the Superb demonstator away for his new rally car at the Sunseeker rally today in Bournemouth. Didn't see the Fabia taking part but did take some photos of the fabia that won last year I believe. There was a Favort still running in on one of the last stages photo's below. It was a good day especially as Jon pointed me in the direction of a scale model stall selling a Monte Carlo 2002 Octavia WRC - nice car (
