  1. I wanted to add the I had this issue on my old Octavia. I'd been to the supermarket and had my car valeted by the firm down there. Turned out one of the people had a bit of a thing for really drowning the shifter cover in a lot of detergent spray. This had caused the issue and I was also given a fairly steep price for fixing it. In the end of traded the car in with the fault.
  2. Hi Pullover - I had the exact same situation on my previous car. Whatever you - don't cancel the Direct Debit. There could be any one of a number of issues, such as DVLA, not being quick with deregistering the vehicle in your name or the processing time as a whole. If you cancel the Direct Debit you could be in breach of contract, it also makes it even slower to get a refund as and when everything is processed. When I got rid of my old BMW it took approximately 3-4 weeks for it to be all cancelled down and annoyingly an unbudgeted for extra payment was taken - it was all returned but it took a couple of weeks.
  3. Thanks buddy. Just ordered from him. Thank you so much everyone for the advice.
  4. On my previous couple of BMWs, you could do a simplistic VIN lookup and see what options were spec’d on your car when built. There were lots of websites and the info easy to get your hands on. I’ve been through the forum but all the VIN lookup services for the Skoda are either now defunct, only show high level info or charge a hefty fee. Is there a reputable website that will show the options on my car? Thanks in advance, Matt.
  5. I absolutely love the new look steering wheel but sadly my new inbound MK3 2020 LK Superb doesn't have it. Is there a way to retrofit one? I've seen some knocking about on various online auction sites - but didn't know if would require significant coding or hub modifications. This the one I'm lusting after...
  6. It's going to be a week. Having owned the BMW and it's continual trips back in to get stuff fixed - I've become a master of patience in my old age (5 months I was without it for prior to getting it all fixed and selling it 🤯. Not the car's fault more the incompetent local dealer). In all truth I could grab it tomorrow but sadly got existing commitments. It's about an hour and half from me - so I'm going to have to just wait it out. 😬
  7. Hi everyone. I used to have an Octavia for a few years before getting seduced by BMWs. After owning a BMW 6GT, and a less than stellar experience with a local dealer - I've decided to come back to Skoda, having just ordered a K&L Superb. I'm really excited to grab the car and wondered if anyone had any tips for me?
  8. So spoke with a local VAG specialist independent garage. I spoke about the issue and he immediately recognised it. Apparently he sees it frequently on VW Golfs. The V488 unit is apparently very cheaply made and the mech can wear, causing the plastic blade element to foul it’s inner chamber and it then smashes itself. One detecting the lack of rotation apparently the management module locks the pump. Apparently this is a weird translation from the original terminology. It essentially isolates the power supply. He’s doing the DSG oil change for £179 and then the pump for £50 fitting and the part at £80. So fingers crossed that’s the extent of the issue. Will report back after it comes out do the garage next Wednesday.
  9. Hi all. Having scoured the VW forums, I've located where the unit lives and will do a visual check to see if anything has unclipped/disconnected itself. The car is second hand and from my research is something that wasn't and isn't available on UK cars. I've never casually seen any such settings in the MiB system. Though I'm starting to think it's the micro-circuit element of one of the several heater units, having found a great explainer pdf online.
  10. So apparently P prefix relates to Powertrain. Having looked on some VW forums it seems to allude to a parking/ auxiliary heater fitted to all diesel cars. Supposed to help heating first thing. Still not that far further but interesting development.
  11. Ok, wow thanks for your quick search. Does it have steps to remedy the issue? And it’s locked as in seized or blocked?
  12. So my wife is away for 2 days on a training course. Drive up near Sheffield in my MK3 Elegance estate 2.0 diesel DSG. The place is down some bumpy old lanes and after dropping her off I clock an engine management light. So I do the usual things. Turn off ignition and back on, still there. Leave it over night, still there. So so I ordered a fault reader and it popped up P16C7. Having had a good search, this relates to rear engine mount actuator ( as per the attached image) . It’s booked in to have the gearbox oil changed as it’s just gone over 40k. But it’s really got my head scratching, could a bumpy road cause this? I wasn’t going fast due to kids and dog in car. Literally i’m Wracking my brain for of unusual things I’ve done. The only other odd thing I can think is using ASDA fuel which I never typically do, though I even used an additive as I was worried about fuel quality. After turning the fault off Monday night, it’s popped back on almost 20 hours later. I’ve been out in the car but made only 2 journeys of about 3 miles each. I should also add that the car is making zero noticeable noises, clinks or is having performance issues. I’d really appreciate some help.
  13. After much hand wringing and head scratching, I discovered it was something simplistic. The 7-zip application had placed everything into the root folder of the zip. So on the SD card it had the title of the zip file with all additional files contained within. So I formatted and tried again, ensuring that this default option of creating the root folder was disabled. Popped the card into the card and thankfully we're now backup and running with the latest maps. It was nerve inducing and I can't believe that Skoda and VAG don't support an application that can check the SD card content and automatically update as required. I remember an ancient TomTom from 10 years back that was capable of this. But if it was easy I guess it would be any fun....;)
  14. Right I'm ready to commit murder....Having spent several hours getting no further forward with the 2017/2018 update. I'm a MAC user but have a few PCs in the house also. Tried using the Mac method and it would always fail on copying the data at Turkey, essentially running out of space. Tried reinstating my old data and dragging just the map data. No dice. So I formatted the SD card using FAT32 and with a 4096K cluste. size using my son's Windows 10 PC, For some reason it always downloaded the ZIP when I put my VIN number into the Skoda website . So I downloaded the 7-Zip software and followed the instruction to the word. This time it used 7,445mb of the 7,550mb capacity....phew so everything copied over. Went back to the car, slid the tab on the SD card and guess what......Now I'm getting invalid SD medium. Can someone please help me....? Very frustrated....argghhh
