  1. Don’t use the Mac if you can get away with it. I get a higher success rate on Windows with this. Download straight from Skoda with you chassis number or from VW by selecting Golf and then Discover Pro. Download to the PC, unzip the file with 7zip (not winzip or the built in zip tool on windows 10), open the folder and copy the 3 folders (MIB1, MIB2 and the text file) over onto the SD card after you have deleted all data and formatted to FAT32. Then insert into the car, the radio should read the card then show a message with something like software update detected and then you can go from there.
  2. It will, but you’ll need a MIB2 amp for the CANTON. This will also need CP removal.
  3. That’s definitely a Columbus, advice above is accurate; make sure there is nothing else on the card. Are you using a Mac?
  4. As above, there are no visible sensors for front assist, it’s a radar behind the grill. Cornering lights and cornering fog lights are now different with LED headlights. Cornering lights means extra LED’s come on in the inner 2 sections of the lights when cornering.
  5. A Columbus System should see that card. You will need to download the 25GB zipped file, then unzip it with 7zip and put it on a freshly formatted SD card and then put it in the car and the system should recognise it as a software update and then you can update via Navigation, Version Information, Update
  6. None whatsoever and the car is lowered too, no rub, no problems. They fit lovely on the rim
  7. I think with all things considered here the grey car is shaping up the better buy if the winter pack isn’t a straight cut, need it at all costs deal breaker. It’s cheaper, has better audio and infotainment, the rear lights are nicer (small thing but still cool IMO) and it’s the 1.4 which is a nicer, more proven engine compared to the 1.5. Not being from AC is the icing on the cake.
  8. For me it comes down to one thing; how much will you use the winter pack? If you think you will use the heated seats and screen often then go for that car. If you won’t use the screen or don’t mind not having it and you won’t use (or miss) the heated seats then go for the grey car. The 1.4 is a slightly better engine and doesn’t suffer from the issues that have plagued the 1.5, also they aren’t equipped with the cylinder on demand 2 cylinder mode like the 1.5. CANTON audio is nice and the Columbus is a nice upgrade too, I love mine. Being cheaper helps too, but as I said before, it’s about the value you see in the extras. It all hinges on the winter pack IMO.
  9. The top one is a MIB2.5 Columbus which has a hard drive, full 3D mapping with animated landmark buildings, the larger 9.2 inch screen and gesture controls. The bottom one is a MIB2.5 Amundsen which is the standard unit. Has nav maps on an SD card and doesn’t have true 3D maps (has a 3D mode though) and has the 8 inch screen.
  10. It turns the high beam on and off automatically. I have coded it on mine, among many other things; it’s great. I’m not a Bangor graduate, I’ve applied 3 times and been accepted but never gone. Maybe I will if their EdD program entices me
  11. You have the high beam assist tuned on. The first push activates HBA and then a little A comes on the Maxidot, the second push gives you manual control. If you would prefer not to have it, go to Vehicle Settings, Light, Light Assist and untick the box.
  12. Having looked up the advert I can see both front wheels are kerbed, so I would factor that into the price you offer. It’s not overpriced to start with, there are others out there asking more for cars with no options and more miles so it’s very hard, as it always is, to value used cars when you aren’t dealing with ‘book price’. Personally I’d be inclined to get it down to under £13,000 as those front wheels will let it down but I wouldn’t worry about the sticker price, so much more goes into buying a car and making a good deal. The price paid is only really comparable on a brand new car, every used car has it’s own merits and certain options will be desirable to certain people whether the book says so or not. I was very willing to pay a premium to buy a car with the winter pack and full leather seats as that’s what I really wanted. As it happened, my car was the cheapest one I could find and it happened to have those options.
  13. I went 235/35/19 as do many people because there are a better range of good tyres in this size and they fit really well
  14. I’ve just had a closer look at the car, it has the standard lowline LED light clusters which is fine, the highline offer no extra functionality. The camera is the same weather lowline or highline (720p), the highline one has active guidelines that move with the steering wheel. I find my heated screen is very fast to operate, will clear ice in under 90 seconds. Even if you don’t use that much, the winter pack includes heated seats and washer jets.
  15. The car you have posted has the optional super sport steering wheel which is a vRS wheel with paddles, if it’s a lowline camera it was about £200 and a highline camera was about £400. Wheels were about £500, winter pack was £600. I agree with the poster above though, it’s not about the new cost, it’s what it’s worth to you. Take a standard SE-L and this one; if a standard one is cheaper, how much value do you give these items? The winter pack is 100% worth it, would never have a car without it, the camera is very useful, especially with the rear washer and at one time if you had the camera from factory you had to have the high LED rear lights which are nice, so if the car has those it looks a bit sleeker. As the car is used it’s very hard to compare used cars together as there are so many more variables than just options to consider.
  16. It’s optional, but Front Assist is standard. Retrofit is technically possible but involves so many hardware changes it’s not worth it. If you are in the buying market now, get a car that already has it. FL L&K’s come with it as standard as do SE Tech cars but they have considerably less spec and some of the nicer options aren’t available on them anyway.
  17. If you have an Amundsen navigation system you need to use the Skoda card, a normal SD won’t do. If you have a Columbus, you need a FAT32 format card and then you load the card to the car and update the nav via Navigation, Version Information, Update. The car should know if a card with a software update is put in it, mine always gives me a message when this happens.
  18. Firmware versions are given major changes for each model of radio, 2016 being 02xx, 2017 being 03xx and 2018 being 04xx for the Amundsen so your brand new car won’t have 2016 firmware. Skoda don’t make these public by themselves usually but if you have an issue your dealer may be willing to help update the firmware.
  19. The dead pixels are very noticeable but the glass screens so seem to be brighter and sharper even though they run the same resolution as the older screens.
  20. It’s a shame you aren’t near me, I’d love to pay you some money to take all the power boot gubbins out and swap you my standard boot lock and alter your coding so we can both get what we are after. As it goes I have some driven struts ready for my power bootlid conversion so I only need the rest! You’ll need to change the boot latch to a standard one and ideally alter the coding so the car isn’t looking for the power boot anymore and then it’ll work like any other factory non powered bootlid.
  21. When I upgraded from the 7 Plus to the 11 Pro Max, I had to reconnect everything to the car and use a whole new lightening cable for the CarPlay before going wireless. Mine has been fine since. Reset everything to factory and try again, see how it goes.
  22. The MIB2 units will work with either 8 inch screen, that’s not the issue, the cost of rework is the issue. Whichever radio you get will need Component Protection removing, hardware mods, software mods and the newer ones need CAN filters installing. VAG have closed the door on the old way of working with the 5Q0035874A 2016 Amundsen that used to be so cheap. The cost of rework will vary from radio to radio. In your situation I would set aside the money (usually from £700-1200) and contact someone who works with these radios and can advise what they have in stock that may be to your liking and can be made to work in your car.
  23. The unit in the glovebox is the radio. The screen is just a screen but the MIB1 Bolero (which you have) can’t run an 8 inch screen. To fulfil your requirements you would need either a MIB2 Amundsen (5Q0035874B or MIB2.5 C) or a MIB2 Columbus 3V0035020, 021 etc as various ones fit. Screen wise you can either use the MIB2 Columbus 5E0919606 or MIB2.5 Amundsen 5E0919605M but none of this is plug and play. I recommend getting in touch with Pawel (pab567) as he’ll sort you out. As for MFSW some gateways cannot run this and some can. You could get the buttons and plug in after some coding but if they don’t work then you will need a High CAN Gateway and that will need ODIS-E and lot of coding experience.
