  1. @Rooted that’s a good point. I hadn’t thought about any previous work that may have been done. Would you say that’s a good sign it has had previous work as there’s no evidence of anything else to suggest otherwise?
  2. Evening all. I’ve had my car for just over a month and noticed a very small area of raised paint (approx 5mm x 5mm) on the boot lid when washing at the weekend. There looks to be a couple of slight marks/rust showing through. The car is MY20 so just out of warranty for paint. I’m guessing the likely cause is a stone chip or similar which I doubt would be covered anyway. Anyone with more experience than me in this area willing to share some advice regarding a cause and repair would be much appreciated.
  3. @vrs'burks great project thread. Some nice subtle mods. I also have the Leyo paddle shifters, completely agree with your comments, pricey but top quality and feel. How did you find the Reiger diffuser to fit? Any issues long term? I’m looking at a diffuser myself. The Maxton have a tendency to warp around the exhaust although I’m not sure if this was just an issue with the diesel. They are similarly priced however the Reiger looks a little more OEM. What did you end up doing with the R600 intake hose in the end? 😉
  4. +1 with this issue! No low battery warning prior, key didn’t want to start the car and gave me an indication saying it could not detect a key etc. Took the battery out and put it back in then I worked. Ordered some decent Energiser CR2025 ones to replace what’s currently in there.
  5. @MTwedVRS I had been debating doing the same for a while and finally took the plunge going from a Mk3 TDI vRS to a 245 model, in part due to your thread! I’d been looking out for a Challenge model but I wasn’t keen on 19in wheels due to the roads I travel on, also not all came with the virtual cockpit. In the end I came across a well specced 245 car that included adaptive cruise, virtual cockpit, canton and keyless entry/start/stop. It looks like it’s been well looked and has recently had a set of Pilot Sports fitted all around. Averaging 38-42 on my commutes so far, can’t complain at that. The response and quietness over the diesel is like night and day. No real complaints so far other than me wanting a little more noise, maybe a Miltek resonated cat-back is in order. I’ll also be getting it booked in at my local for brake fluid change and aircon service as neither look to have been done since new.
  6. Just PX’d my MY17 vRS TDI for a MY20 vRS TSI and noticed the ambient lighting in the newer car only comes on when the doors are opened or the headlights come on. In my old car the ambient lighting was always on. I’ve had an initial play and can’t seem to turn them on all of the time. Can somebody confirm that this is the case on later versions of this car? Thanks in advance.
  7. Evening all. Is there a reason why Skoda changed the engine cover on later models of the vRS TSI from this… …to this? At a guess I’d have thought it’d be cost related across all VAG models with the same engine. Unsure if there is a technical reason behind the change.
  8. Thanks for the replies. Just for added confirmation, I came across the leaflet provided with the insert today while sorting through all the paperwork. Sure enough the cover image shows the Canton sub and a spare in the wheel well!
  9. Just put a deposit down on a petrol Mk3 vRS Octavia that has the Canton sound system. I can’t tell from the pictures/video if the car has a Space Saver due to the sub. I can see the box to left of the boot for the Canton but unaware if any space in the wheel well is taken up too. Can anyone with experience of this give any advice please? I have a space saver and wheel change kit that I purchased from Škoda/another forum member for my current car so can transfer that across if the car doesn’t come with one/sell if it does as I still have the insert/inflation kit.
  10. That stance is much better, keep wanting to stick some springs on mine to help get rid of the arch gap. Just need to get the alloys done in black now! There’s a very distinct “grime line” around the spare wheel well, is that how much water was in it?
  11. Can anybody recommend an OBD2 reader that’s compatible with the Android VAG DPF App that won’t break the bank please? I have the VW connect ODB2 reader however it doesn’t want to connect with the App. I’m guessing it isn’t ELM327 compatible.
  12. @steved83 evening Steve. This is still available. Drop me a PM and we’ll sort something out.
  13. Can’t go wrong with Milltek. https://www.millteksport.com/products/skoda/octavia/5e-2013-present.html?p=1&product_list_limit=48 Can filter Mk3/4, Petrol/Diesel, OPF/GPF or non OPF/GPF models at the bottom of the page. Go with a resonated system if you don’t want it to be too intrusive. I’d recommend watching a few videos or better still see if anyone local has a res/non-res system fitted to their car and would be happy to take you out for a spin.
  14. You mentioned it had been a while, how is the car running now? Have you resolved all the issues? If so hopefully at no significant cost over what you paid for the car (i.e. I hope you got a good deal on the car that made doing the extra work worthwhile). I had a Mk2 vRS TDI (also came from an Mk7 Fiesta ST) and the lighting on my instrument cluster began to flicker with one set of gauges giving up all together. I ended up sending them off to a specialist recommended on the forum who returned the unit within a couple of days with new LEDs all around. Someone may have had the same or tried to upgrade the lighting and just made a mess of it. I’ve always liked that colour and think you’ve done a good job on the grille surround! Added a splitter too I see.
  15. Literally catching up on this thread as my wife calls to say her car has been hit by a delivery van whilst parked up! I gather the driver knocked on the door and has admitted responsibility, given my wife was parked in a space and in a house at the time I’d like to think this would be a relatively straight forward case for the insurance company. Having said that, going off this thread, I can imagine she’ll see a hike in her premium regardless. Oh and the car is a Toyota Hybrid…
  16. @HeavyMetalRich thanks Rich. I did check the mechanism using the method above, that’s when I noticed that once pulled to the open position the latch wouldn’t return as it was sticking. After a clean and grease I actuated it a few times with a screwdriver to loosen it up.
  17. So I was just wrapping up a check/top up of fluids in the engine bay and went to close up only to find that the bonnet sprung back open. After a bit of an invest I found that the release catch was sticking so did my best to clean it out with some degreaser and brush before applying some white lithium grease (area to the right underneath where the cable meets the ball). Problem solved. I did notice, however, that the latch mechanism appears corroded and has 2 cracks running along it (centre of picture) with that part of the latch starting to lift away. Does anybody have any experience replacing these at all or know if this is just superficial without any bearing on the mechanisms capability to do it’s job?
  18. I’m selling an OEM 18” Gemini Alloy Wheel (minus Tyre) taken from my Octavia vRS. To cut a long story short, the wheel was curbed (not by me) with the scuff blended out and painted (again, not by me). Unfortunately this repair removed enough of the profile at the edge that it prevented a diamond cut repair being carried out. The repair covers approx 2/3 of the wheel and some of the paint has started to peel off. If you plan on having a powder coated refurb done, and aren’t too bothered about the profile at the edge, then it’d be ideal likewise as a spare in it’s current state. Skoda reported no further issues with the alloy when they switched it out for a new one. From what I can see it’s purely cosmetic from the repair/signs of corrosion on the inside face on one spoke. It will require a new valve core however. I only replaced due my OCD (if I was aware of it at the time it’d have been repaired properly but that is another story). Info from the box the new one came in: 5E0 071 498E HA7 OCTAVIA (5E) BRUSHED ALLOY WHEEL GEMINI IN ANTHRACITE GREY DESIGN 7,5Jx18" ET 51 Price reduced to £80. Collection from Watton, Norfolk. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
  19. Had to do a couple of short runs this weekend already (no more than 15mins each) and my fan has been on every time i’ve stopped. I guess it isn’t completing the cycle in that short space of time. Frustrating as, like I said, majority of my journeys are 2 hour commutes on A and B roads a couple of times a week but if the soot levels aren’t high enough it won’t start the cycle.
  20. @SkodaNewb this is something I find frustrating about owning a modern diesel car and DPF anxiety. I do a couple of 2 hour commutes a week mainly on A and B roads, the rest of the time the car is sat on the drive. Did my usual commuting this week (again, a couple of hours on the road) with no obvious signs of a regen, took the dog 15 minutes up the road for a walk and when I turned the car off the fans were running accompanied by the smell of a regen. Can’t see how it wouldn’t have got up to temp to have done a passive regen whilst on a 2 hour commute and yet it did on a 15 minute journey up the road.
  21. When you say local garage is that a main dealer? If not, try giving Hortons Skoda a call in Lincoln. If you would prefer not to use the main dealer for fitting then they should still be able to supply the part for you to take away. Have the garages given long lead times or just unable to get one at all?
  22. @Caj109 give Hortons (the main dealer that runs The Skoda Shop website) a call directly. I was after a wheel that was showing as out of stock on the website and they were able to order it in within the week. I found them very helpful.
  23. Unfortunately not. I’ve had 2 places say that they wouldn’t be able to restore the profile. If it had have gone to them first however then they may have been able to. Just had a quote of £225 for a new wheel. May go down that route as the other 3 wheels are still in excellent condition. Probably only delaying the inevitable though 😂
  24. That’s what it is looking like. I won’t be able to restore the profile however it should be much less noticeable when all one colour. The other 3 are spot on bar the odd bit of white worm corrosion. Just need to decide on a colour. Torn between gloss black and a gunmetal/anthracite colour. Really like the grey from the current Fiesta ST.
  25. @Dooge if you’re after black then I’d recommend these from Kopacek (formerly Super Skoda). They also have a vRS Honeycomb design and original, non-painted, centre caps available. https://www.kopacek.com/skoda/wheels/center-wheel-caps-with-new-2012-logo-original-skoda-autoas-monte-carlo-black-version-f9r @MO230 unfortunately the wife had the repair done while I was away working and I was unaware. I’ve used the repairer on previous cars without any issue but I think he’s dropped the ball with this one. Should have either declined the repair or advised to go to a place that does diamond cutting refurbishments. I feel he’s taken advantage of my wife not having a clue what a diamond cut wheel is. Annoyingly the cost of a full refurbishment (tyre off, stripped, repaired and powdercoat) would have only been slightly more expensive.
