  1. Mine's been doing similar lately. Have a look at the flap valve actuator to the right of the inlet manifold,; see if it's moving freely and that it's not jammed open.
  2. Just thought I'd post this up in case anyone was looking into fitting one of these units to their car. I noticed the RCD330+ being mentioned on a couple of other forums, so decided to take the plunge. Purchased a NoName unit from AliExpress in early Jan, and have been running it since. Considering they only cost $150, it's a massive improvement over the Bolero! I was previously using a Joying Android head unit, which cost a lot more and had considerably more bugs. After a bit of research, I installed a firmware update that enabled Android Auto (I had to install a "wrong" firmware first, then install the correct version to get it work). PROS: Cheap! SD card playback In-built bluetooth out of the box (hands free call quality is great, despite mic being mounted in the unit) Android Auto/CarPlay integration (Spotify, Google Maps, Google Play Music etc etc) Voice control (can safely reply to text messages while driving. Sounds stupid, but actually really useful for me) OEM interface (some versions available with Skoda green lighting too) Sound quality on a par with OEM unit (bluetooth streaming is VASTLY better than my previous Chinese Android head unit too) Rear view camera input CONS: FM reception is really bad, even using supplied adapter. Can pick up 2 or 3 BBC stations outside my house, but loses them within a couple of miles. Has no AF function either. Front facing USB cable looks a bit rubbish Has a few minor bugs (Spotify sometimes doesn't respond, every time I connect my phone it asks to pair) I also recently purchased a cheap (£17) fascia from eBay. Colour match isn't perfect, but it doesn't stand out that badly. Now I just need to find a rear view camera that fits a Mk2 Octavia Estate. I've currently enabled it with VCDS, but still need to find a rear camera than fits. The AliExpress seller I bought the unit and rear camera from claims to sell a lens that fits Skoda Octavia, but has now sent me 3 wrong sizes! So need to find the right one to test the camera.
  3. I may take you up on that mate. Still got the EML light on, and the actuator to the right of the manifold has randomly popped out a couple of times since I made this thread. Could the new manifold I've fitted be faulty?
  4. Turns out it's easy to do with a 24mm socket. Just left a ratchet on a pulley bolt on the left side of the engine, then rotated it clockwise when I needed to.
  5. Is that separate from the intake manifold?
  6. I've managed to get the car back to driving normally. I checked a few connections inside the engine bay and all seemed fine, then rotated the intake runner flap arm manually. No more misfires and car idles fine, but still getting a MIL and P2015 code, despite fitting a brand new manifold
  7. I replaced the inlet manifold and did a de-coke 10 days ago. The car was running fine, but for some reason I was still getting the P2015 error code and the MIL on. Today I tried to run a throttle body adaption in VCDS, as well as the inlet manifold flap adaption, to see if this would help. I attempted the start the car to drive home from work, but the idle was dog rough, and the car cut out 3 times. I managed to keep the revs up to get going, then drive 10 miles home, so the car seemed to behave fine under load (albeit while trying to stall at traffic lights) Any ideas what I've messed up, and how I can put it right?!
  8. I had loads of issues with battery drain from a Joying unit in my Mk5 Golf.
  9. I can't believe this...cleared the old fault codes on Tuesday evening, and already today I've got the MIL back Brand new VW branded manifold from the states, and it's still giving the "Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor (Bank 1): Implausible Signal" as well as another about the the fuel mix being too lean? I've noticed the car is also much slower to turn over and start, but not had chance to investigate yet Any ideas WTF is going on?
  10. RCD330 Plus fits quite a lot of those criteria. They do come from China, but are VW OEM kit over there http://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/shop/radio-15/oem-6rd035187a-mib-car-radio-65inch/ Android Auto/Apple CarPlay (including Spotify, Maps navication etc), integrated bluetooth for calling and audio streaming, aux input on front, SD card, rear camera input. And cheap too! Only thing I'm struggling with is FM signal
  11. Well it's all (ish) back together, and the car starts and runs, so I've done something right The 2 bottom bolt holes were cross threaded before I started, so I thought I'd fixed them by running a thread tap over them (tested with a bolt after = all good). However, I realised when re-installing the manifold that the good thread must be a few millimetres out of reach of the bolts, as neither of them tighten up I'm going to see if I can try a bolt that's 5mm longer. @planehazza That bottom bracket is a joke though. I removed the TB rubber hose like you said. In the end I hand tightened the rubber section to the underside of the manifold, then reached in from the right side with my right hand to try and twist/push the bracket so the triple-square bolt lined up on the block. I then squeezed behind the alternator with my left hand and a socket extension, blinding poking and twisting until the bolt started to grab. Must have taken me a solid 2 hours of swearing and bleeding!
  12. Thanks. I must have watched Humble Mechanics vid 10 times...he conveniently glosses over everything regarding this bracket! I've just put the mani back on, but it's going to be coming off again already.
  13. Putting it back may well take me another day! As I've got to figure out this bracket underneath...any tips?
  14. Took about 4 hours, which included the cleaning. Wanted to have it all back together today, but have to wait until tomorrow for local VW main dealer to get bracket and replacement bolts in stock
  15. I've managed to get my intake manifold off the car relatively easily, helped in part by the fact that the Skoda dealer who previously replaced 3 x injectors didn't even bother to put back 1 of the bolts, and cross-threaded another Another thing that concerns me though; mine is missing the underside central bracket (with the triple-square bolt that's a bitch to get to) entirely. I'm assuming it's meant to be there, and that said garage have just left it off?! This is my new manifold with all the bits swapped over And the engine bay
  16. I'm in the same boat. DPM do the B4 sport damper kit for £200 or so, though not really compared that to many other sellers.
  17. Weirdly easy! Undo a plastic nut with your fingers, pull a tab and hey presto; the whole head light pulls away from the car. Saves ripping your hands to shreds trying to squeeze them behind the unit.
  18. P2015 won't cause any kind of rattle. With it being a TSI, I'd be concerned that any rattle could be timing chain related. Have you read the big thread that's stickied at the top of the Octavia forum?
  19. The installer did mention that, but both PIRs look closed up. Scared to open them up again as if it alarms, I'll be stuck with my previous suggestion of turning it off permanently! Do you mean there's likely to be another battery inside the internal sounder, as well as the control panel?
  20. I bought my first house just over a year ago, and came with a professionally fitted burglar alarm (albeit one from 2009) It worked fine for a while, but after opening up some PIRs to redecorate (after calling the installer to check this is OK), it's now refusing to be re-set with my code. I don't want to have to keep paying £60 for a callout every time I want to paint a room, so I'm considering de-commissioning the whole thing then re-fitting a newer model (as I have all the wiring in place) Has anyone ever removed an alarm before? As far as I can tell, I'll need to cut the mains supply, then open the case (which will cause it to go off) and remove the internal backup battery?
  21. I've had this on my watch list for ages...as far as I'm aware it's the correct fitment, but it's just a question of whether the brushed texture matches the remaining OEM trims.
