  1. Ok, let me rephrase: A question I often ask: if there was no such thing as tax breaks, would fossil fuel industry even exist?
  2. Simple, yes. But this isn't China. It seems many people have a keen interest to avoid any and all things that could be classed as "big brother". (or say they do whilst still using smart phones) The party who suggests it would certainly not be popular across the spectrum.
  3. I think best thing about Tesla is they make those information available via their API. So I can log it as my own data: I have the same logging turned on via Google maps. I personally believe tech company have better ability to keep my data secure compared to car companies. VW data breach doesn't surprise me a single bit. But I don't think it will be via car manufacturers. UK is a small nation, not all car manufacturers will bend over backwards to implement this for tax. Combined with ZEV mandate could see many manufacturers just decide it's not worth the effort. I do believe per-mile tax will eventually come, just not sure how it will be implemented. I also often ask, if there's no such thing as subsidy, would fossil fuel industry even exist? Source: https://www.imf.org/en/Topics/climate-change/energy-subsidies
  4. When LEZ works: "look, no air pollution, LEZ isn't needed" When LEZ doesn't work: "look, LEZ doesn't work" 🤮
  5. https://elbil.no/english/norwegian-ev-policy/ Norway EV incentives. I wonder what sort of "charging right" is provided. Don't think UK have anything similar. If not, why not?
  6. The actual cross-pavement policy published by government, that was referenced by earlier article I posted: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cross-pavement-solutions-for-charging-electric-vehicles/cross-pavement-solutions-for-charging-electric-vehicles?
  7. I saw the news, thought it's relevant to this thread. But only quoted that bit because I found it funny. I was tempted to quote "Lies, damn lies and statistics".
  8. Government releases cross-pavement EV charging guidelines https://www.current-news.co.uk/government-releases-cross-pavement-ev-charging-guidelines/
  9. Valid point, if taxation is added to EV charging only. How sure are you that some sort of taxation is applied across all cars? Electricity maintain a small tax reduction in order to achieve net zero. Don't forget Tesla with membership or Tesla vehicle are around 40p/kWh. Lower during off peak and a bit more during peak time.
  10. That's a nice idea I can get behind, don't see any reason why not. Although I may just use a granny charger instead (if metered on charge point). Or switch to bog standard E7 tariff at 12p these days. At same time, in the interest of net zero transition, I'd like to see same 100% tax applied to all fossil fuel, from petrol to domestic gas.
  11. Yes, I am on the side that wants to get to "net zero". Excess CO2 is very bad. That excess comes from unnecessarily burning stuff that are normally buried underground. What you keep failing to acknowledge here is that CO2 in enclosed environment is very different to CO2 in global atmosphere. Actually, my apologies, you responded with "LOL no" I guess you have some basic understanding but decide it is counterproductive to the misinformation you want to spread. The trouble with trying to gaslight people is that you shouldn't do it yourself. Why do you continuously feel the need to insert the narrative that I am remotely interested in making people change their behaviours? Yet you haven't provided evidence to back up your accusation other than by ramming words into my mouth.
  12. In Norway, only rental companies buy gas cars, because tourists don't 'get' EVs " In 2024, 88.9% of cars sold in Norway were all-electric, up from 82.4% in 2023." Also, I'm heading over there this August for some sight seeing. Will definitely rent an EV, absolutely no way getting ICE with Norway's infrastructure.
  13. With all those schemes, roughly how much per kWh does the user actually pay? We know EV vs ICE running cost break even cost is at around 50 p/kWh. Yes, there is a social divide for those who can regularly get cheap electricity and those who cannot, no point skirting around it. Without finding schemes, EV public charging will be more expensive to fuel (charge). But is it actually as big problem as people make out if the per mile fuel cost is roughly equal? As lol pointed out, no one buys their daily fuel at motorway service area from their own pockets, so is it fair to compare en-route DC rapid charging cost against supermarket fuel? There's also free events. Christmas day Gridserve was free. I just had 6.9 kWh recharged for free at Jolt this afternoon. Left with 58%, got home with 59% after 24 miles drive to pick up a new toy.
  14. Let's read the Wikipedia screenshot you've posted "in greenhouse or other enclosed area". Are you actually suggesting CO2 is good for Earth atmosphere by transplanting CO2 generator usage over globally? Or, based on your previous posts, you are saying CO2 generator should be banned and cars should be used instead for those niche use-cases? This is classic extrapolation and smoke + mirrors by misinformation spreader. Screenshot your own post is like repeating yourself. Doesn't answer the question when the question is clearly asking about the very same post. Do you have sufficient understanding of English language? It seems you are basically saying I am not to be trusted when I go around everyone's home and buy their grocery for them? Rest assured, I have no plan to buy your grocery for you. In case there's any doubt with the English language for you. Let me repeat: There is absolutely no implication that I am telling people to change their lives. Here's an explainer for you. Keyword is "acknowledge".
  15. Could get a Zoe: https://www.whatcar.com/news/renault-zoe-long-term-test-review/n16837 A few other EV's also have pre-heating on the key. Or a Tesla and do it via Apple Watch Or like what I do with now disconnected Nissan Leaf: open the door and turn on the vehicle like every other vehicle. However, I can leave it running without fearing a fine. Unlike ICE vehicle, where heat comes from ICE's wasted heat, thus the engine must be running. Which is illegal to do so unnecessarily on public road. https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/winter-driving/dont-get-fined-for-de-icing-your-car/ Turning on EV to de-ice is not illegal.
  16. -3 according to voice over. What do you use to prep rubber? That video recommends this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0D7TY42WS I just let it blast heat for more than 15min..... fixes most things.
  17. Good gas, bad gas. It's like that yogurt advert: "good bacteria, bad bacteria". Does this mean we should also not use bacteria killing cleaning products? Hopefully you are fully aware the market for CO2 generator are definitely not for life on this planet. It is for human manufactured products. Where have I told anyone how to live their lives? Please stop putting words into my mouth. Doing so seems like you are the source of misinformation.
  18. Thanks for that. Everyone's different. Solar and home battery obviously doesn't work for everyone and indeed it is an expensive initial investment. In your professional experience, what do you make of VPP with respect to overall grid operation? Does it work from local DNO perspective? https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/virtual-power-plant
  19. This would be a great starting point in the tax reform. Cars, not just EV's, are becoming unnecessarily heavier and heavier.
  20. May I get your view on virtual power plants? Something like this:
  21. Yep, combi-boiler is also my lack of space reason. The water tank space is now an integrated wardrobe, we do not want to loose this space by putting water tank back in. I'm keeping my eye closely on the heat geek mini, the water heat storage is similar size to a combi boiler. theory is Just need to find space for heat pump outside. https://newarkcylinders.co.uk/heatgeekministore/ Not sure about the noise, gas boiler are quite noisy by itself. The unit outside doesn't seem to make much noise, unlike early AC units.
  22. Absolutely the processes that use CO2 should be made more efficient or switch to new processes to not use CO2. I totally agree. I have zero knowledge of this topic, so I can only speculate by looking at numbers instead of do a knee jerk reaction just based on the name. CO2 sales revenue 2024: 24 billion USD (link earlier) Car sales volume prediction for 2024: 94 million Assuming each vehicle is cheaply 30k USD, that's 2,820 billion USD sales revenue for cars for comparison. Most of those car that will be outputting CO2 incidentally (thus unnecessarily) for next 10+ years. Let's not forget CO2 generator revenue growth may also due to CO2 gas shortage driving up cost of the machines, rather than directly reflected in more sales volume, hence generation capability may not have increase as much as sales revenue. In summary, @EnterName have posted a curved ball. For methane, artificial meat is a huge research and growth sector. We are beginning to use it in our dishes. But food is difficult to replace and even more difficult to make people change. Also domestic gas supply contains mostly methane. So the move to heat pump makes a lot of sense. There are challenges with space for fitting heat pump + water cylinder for many households, including mine. But ultimately decommissioning of gas network will be required.
  23. Let's be honest here, you know exactly why CO2 generator market isn't going to be a problem for climate change, it was explained clearly in the post you qoted. You are being difficult because you've spotted something to score internet points. As you rightly pointed out, CO2 output of cars are incidental, it is not a necessary by-product of the transport sector. We are all well aware that each and every nation have a net zero goal. Continue sales of ICE vehicle will never get anywhere near the goal. Speaking of China, they are already selling more plug-in cars than ICE powered vehicles 6 months ago: https://electrek.co/2024/08/08/evs-and-phevs-outsell-gas-cars-in-china-for-the-first-time/ Latest analysis shows "EV" (I'm not sure whether it includes PHEV) sales will out pace ICE cars this year: https://www.carscoops.com/2024/12/evs-on-track-to-outsell-ice-cars-in-china-in-2025-10-years-ahead-of-schedule/ Meanwhile UK are struggling with 22%. Can I get even a twitch of cognitive dissonance from you on this? Think whether we (humanity) should regulate a sector that produces CO2 as by product? Or we should regulate a sector that requires CO2 for producing useful products?
  24. Interesting. My solar PV were installed over 9 years ago. Quoted return on investment was 11 years. Despite the low import prices, the FIT scheme was able to level the playing field. Once FIT went away, there was a limbo period with solar. Not much install and ROI was getting better at an extremely slow rate as tech improved. Then came the electricity price hike, and following on from that, I saw quite a few new solar installs in my neighbourhood. ROI came down to 5-10 years depending on roof suitability. I agree it's a bad state of affairs when there's people who cannot afford to pay their bills. But on the flip side, making solar installs financially viable is absolutely the right way forward. Price for home storage have came down drastically and removal of VAT makes installing home storage almost a non-brainer for anyone staying in their property for +5 years. Making more and more demand as flexible as possible should help stabilise and reduce reliance on flexible generation.
  25. "to give someone something that they need" https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/provide So your words to everyone must have meant you've posted/linked the said document in one of your previous post. Therefore it should be unrelated to your computer. Why is it wrong to judge people to the same standard up which I hold myself? Good choices of components. Though, I'd personally had gone for AM4 if budget constrained. AM5 is said to run best at 6000 MT/s. There's also cheaper option from Intel. I recently built a desktop based on 12500h mobile CPU + motherboard combo ("mobile on desktop, MoDT", aka re-use mobile CPU) bought on Aliexpress, total cost for the system less than £350 including a second hand low end GPU.
