  1. Just over 150 electric vehicle (BEV, PHEV and REx EV) is a rather small sample size...... Even according to the highest statistical likelihood per year seen previously, 150 * 5 * 0.011% = 0.083 car...... Regardless of powertrain, anything greater than 1 in such small sample size is unusual.
  2. Great bit for first video at the end starting at 11:30. Talking about buying second hand wanting to see State of Health report. It's always worth trying to get it out of the dealer, at very least lets you see see how knowledgeable they are about their stock.
  3. When I get my Powerwall 3, I'd able to charge 18 kWh in 1 hour if the free energy session works well. It can all be automated without me doing faffing about. 6 kW charge Powerwall 3 5 kW charge Leaf V2H 7 kW charge EV
  4. Good point Winston. Does remote aux heater escape this 107 reg? If not, then why are EV's allowed to be remotely pre-conditioned? I believe motor vehicle is classed as vehicle able to move on its own power, so EV's do qualify. E-scooter are considered motor vehicle, hence they are not legal to use.
  5. Tesla smart summon in US allows the car to drive across the car park to the driver. In EU (including UK) it has been nerf'd to only a few meters away. I think this is legal but useless until regulations allow it to do more.
  6. Good thing EV's get 8 year battery warranty as standard. Your theorised failure case is obviously so low that it is unlikely to occur in over half of vehicle's typical usable life. I guess ICE's 2000 moving parts is more likely to fail in 8 years so most manufacturer only offer 3 year warranty. No, it's about the source. The person you've linked is more qualified than Geoff but they are still same category: independent reporting on social media. During the riots 2 weeks ago, North Finchley was marked as target. I've seen multiple social media reports of violence near where I live and on N Circular. I came back from Ikea Wembley via N Circular that night. Nothing what so ever. Other reports were proven to be fake by other residents. Social media reporting is unreliable in its nature, fabricated bad news spread like wild fire. A news of such magnitude as whole underground car park bunt out and residents displaced, would have been reported by many established news outlets. It doesn't take long to find, you should try it sometimes. If you don't like people being logical and critical about what you write, then you are free to stop posting. I'm only here to point out the bleeding obvious.
  7. Sorry you can't see the difference between credible source and armature youtube video.
  8. It's all very theoretical isn't it. Lots of potential stemmed from a long string of guesses based on surface level understanding. Based on the number of welds per car multiplied by number of EV's sold, if each of the fires in all of BEV history were result of bad weld, that is still extremely low failure rate. Just from my previous ICE related experience, a high percentage of VAG drivers experienced premature water pump failure. May be that's why ICE get 3 years while battery and motor get 8 years warranty across the industry. You certainly haven't helped your case by posting a video. 😛
  9. Thank you very much @Stonekeeper excellent sources and very eye opening. Parked for 60 hours before self igniting, there's some serious questions to be answered! But the theme I sense from those articles is regarding battery supplier and thus quality, rather than battery technology as a whole. The battery supply chain problem is being worked on: https://www.globalbattery.org/battery-passport/ https://www.circularise.com/blogs/eu-battery-passport-regulation-requirements
  10. It's free electricity time. Because it's the first time and works by refunding as credit. I don't want to be paying too much in case something doesn't work on their back end. So I'm just setting the car to charge at 8 amps and Leaf V2H to idle. Test it out by consuming about 1 kWh over my usual consumption of 50 Wh. "Around 500 households suffered from electricity or water supply outages for a week. " Is this the one referenced by Graham? Where is hundreds made hopeless part?
  11. Please do. I've not seen this in any credible the news.
  12. I also noticed that. I think he was referring to Type 2. There is also missing popular models such as Kona and Model Y. The price given for a few are not quite right, early Leaf can be had for £3000. Ioniq 28 are around £8000 while early 38 are now around £10k. But the general idea is sound, second hand EV's are very cheap right now.
  13. TBH Charge Place Scotland is poorly managed and no longer viable, its user experience actively hinders EV adoption. I certainly don't feel CPS user experience is fair representative of EV charging experience here down south. It's about time CPS gets similar transformation as Charge Your Car (bought out by Chargemaster back in early days) and Ecotricity Electric Highway (bought by Gridserve around 2020 and made reliable) https://www.speakev.com/threads/chargeplacescotland-rfid-outage-across-scotland-again.186490/?post_id=3648209#post-3648209
  14. Those Kempower rapid chargers are great isn't it. Nice, neat and small, power sharing and works well.
  15. You are correct with regard to Electrify America. In Europe, incumbent manufacturers pooled together and part funded the Ionity network. https://ionity.eu/en/ionity/who-we-are Currently in UK, according to their network stats page, they have pitiful average of 7.4 chargers per location, just 33 locations. (32 in UK and 1 in Ireland) I think that's a poor effort considering it involves so many manufacturers. For comparison, Tesla supercharger in 2023 had average of 10 chargers per location, 110 locations. https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/electric/charging-network/tesla-supercharger/#:~:text=Back in 2020%2C Tesla installed, them – in over 110 locations.
  16. I think lol was referring to NOx. Which increases as combustion temperature increases.
  17. Last time I checked, hybrids can't do zero emissions. (We are talking about 1999 Prius style hybrids aren't we?) The previous 2030 ban was on pure ICE vehicles. Some level of hybrid powertrain is still allowed. Not much detail is in this government's 2023 pure ICE vehicle ban.
  18. I take exception to you quoting me and talk about lack of evidence despite evidence was clearly provided in the earlier post. Therefore I've reported your comment for "Spam, posting without comprehension". And I'll no longer respond to you on this matter, as you said, otherwise it will drag on and on. Ok, if you knew so much surely you can name all the residential earthing schemes and when/why we need O-PEN protection. Also how O-PEN protections fail and I'm particularly interested to learn exactly how they "fail in an unsafe mode". “The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.” Put it another way, when you know you have surface level understanding, it is best to shut up. I'm always very happy to learn. I've learnt enough to made decisions for my home installations, but would be glad to learn more from you, by the way you post. But remember, credible sources only. Ideally referencing BS 7671.
  19. Do you ever think.... "hum, I better check credibility before I recycle someone's comment pointing out that I don't have credibility"? You didn't have comeback a few months ago because you don't have credibility. All the stuff I post do. There is a big difference. Here you go, first 2 results from Google search: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=what+is+that+cable+being+used+to+charge+ev https://pod-point.com/guides/driver/ev-connector-types-speed https://blog.evbox.com/uk-en/charging-cables-and-plugs Ignorance is bliss, but asking without thinking or checking is just stupidity. Electric shock on EV charge points are impossible because unlike household plugs, additional open-PEN fault protection (or earthing rod) is required by law on EV charge points. More info here: https://www.stator-electrical.co.uk/electrician-in-nottingham/ev-charging-work-do-i-need-pen-fault-device Re limited mobility or adverse weather. There's no one solution fits all. Just like very valid points earlier regarding those who can't use it. This is only a very small step towards giving people the option of driving EV and charging from home tariff. I don't believe government is ignoring those issues, I just think there's many low hanging fruits that can be switched to electric first and then tackle more difficult ones later as BEV technology evolves (or not and hybrid FC becomes viable).
  20. So it is indeed credible news from credible source. What a very strange rant: Again, your lack of EV experience shows here. Source of electricity is from residential. So it is AC charging at 240v, usually 1 phase 32 amps, 7.4 kW. Cable is typical EV cable used for AC destination charging.
  21. First search result. Straight from the council website: The previous trial mentioned by the news article: https://www.westberks.gov.uk/article/42458/Kerbo-Charge-trial-across-West-Berkshire The council page talking about how it all works and how to apply for the kerb side parking solution: https://www.westberks.gov.uk/article/42060/Electric-Vehicle-Charging-Guidance-for-Residents How much more credible do you need? I've certainly never posted a youtuber renting on and on but nothing credible can be found based on the rent 🤣
  22. Every time this kerb charging initiative is brought up, those very valid points are repeated. It has never been forgotten. At the same time, it also means that there are millions of household that could charge their EV via home charging. I'm just reporting a news I heard elsewhere. It is follow up from the government grant news a few months ago. I'm sure more councils will follow.
  23. West Berkshire Council is "rolling out" Kerbo charging solution to residents without driveway. (I guess it means they would auto approve applications) https://forecourttrader.co.uk/latest-news/council-rolls-out-kerbo-charge-through-pavement-system/693816.article There's government grant of £350 on the table, as well as 2p/mile motoring. The article wrongly put "7.5p/kWh r 7p/mile".
  24. I used to prefer manual, the driving engagement and feel of totally in control of the machine. But then I started encountering more and more traffic jams, constant gear changes becomes tiring rather than rewarding. The final straw was when I moved to Greater London. I've owned all types of autos, Merc slushbox, VAG DSG, Fiat automated manual and rented BMW ZF autos. Apart from the automated manual, all are very nice for lazy driving when in traffic. But none of them have same driving engagement, when pushed in back roads, always feels like in the wrong year. I personally think EV gives back the driving engagement feel, direct control of machine. It is always in the right gear, it is responsive when needed but also can handle traffic jam without feeling like done a leg day at the gym only on my left leg.
  25. The thing one (in the video) has to remember is that the ZEV mandate is technology agnostic. It isn't electric vehicle mandate, it is zero-emission vehicle mandate. You can absolutely sell hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle after the full 100% ZEV mandate starts in 2035. Also, agriculture vehicles are not part of the ZEV mandate. 15:43 of video. On synthetic fuel, I know Germany are trying to push it as zero-emission fuel and thus ICE qualify for ZEV in the EU. I've not heard anything in the UK. In my personal opinion, I've no problem traditional manufacturers going bust or consolidate. The world is changing and those who fail to change gets left behind.
