  1. I don't have the side ones but is it not possible to set them to a different tone/volume like you can with the front/back ones?
  2. A young colleague at work was talking the other day about how useful his front facing camera is for driving when the screen is still misted up - just like driving a compute game!
  3. Much like SatNav - I can go somewhere dozens of times and still not know how to get there, whereas pre-satnav I would have learnt it by the 2nd or 3rd time as I would have actually been paying attention to where the turns where instead of just listening to a voice and doing as I'm told. We have the reversing camera on our 280 but tbh most of the time I can do a better job faster just by looking out the back.
  4. We had smaller cars, with smaller pillars and better visibility. Damn all that modern crash protection stuff. I used to be able to reverse park my '92 Cavalier neatly into the middle of a space at full throttle, ok it only had 89hp so not like trying to do the same in the 280! But I could still park it much faster than any car I've had since. Maybe this is another reason why I need a Caterham....
  5. You could try highlighting to the lease company that you believe the car is now dangerous and try to persuade them to change the others. I know company car drivers that have managed similar in the past. Personally I think it is irresponsible to fit tyres with significantly different grip levels on the different axles, the car will not handle as designed and could even be used as wiggle room by the insurance in the case of a claim. I always ensure I have the same tyres all round even if it means dumping some with tread on when I change brand. Lay the safety angle on thick with the lease company and you may be surprised where you get - they should not allow the car to be fitted with tyres that result in handling outside of the design specification.
  6. Those superskoda ones look identical to the ones I got on ebay (link in post further up this thread) right down to the slight moulding imperfection along one edge.
  7. @MartiniBAdding the extra lights in the side walls in a combi/estate - is there a switch power source readily available there? Any details on the install?
  8. Just installed these in the tailgate https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Courtesy-Luggage-Trunk-Boot-Footwell-Door-Light-VW-Passat-CC-Golf-Rabbit-Eos/262431708090 They needed filing a bit on the back corner furthest from the wires to fit into the holes without excessive force but nothing tricky, 20seconds filing at approx 45degrees across the back edge. The wire clips are also rather a tight fit but they do go in once lined up right. Pictures speak for themselves really - converted from pointless to useful. Exposure was locked for all the pictures. Standard New on the right Both replaced The box label
  9. Looks like OP has already made the right choice, but I'll add my opinion anyway. If you're asking the question then you need the 280. I drove both before getting the 280 Sportline, the 220 was just permanent traction control intervention if you tried to use the power with the wheels not pointing straight ahead. The 220 was a quick drive, the 280 adds the smiles. Unless you are tight on fuel money I can't see you regretting the 280, buy the 220 on the other hand and every time that traction control light flashes the same question will come to mind - why didn't I get the 280?
  10. I've had my 280 Sportline about a month now, (no DCC, reviews seemed to suggest its impact was minimal, mistake? not sure). Still in the run in period so haven't had truly spirited drive yet, but I love it for what it is, previous car was a BMW 530d with a remap and my track toy is a Cayman. Does the Superb handle like the BMW, no, the BMW was definitely tighter but this is a family car brought for space and comfort and the handling certainly isn't bad, its more than capable of going at inappropriate speeds on the road without getting into trouble (and tbh after the Cayman any family car, BMW included, feels a bit like a bath tub!) I'm 6'4" and have 2 boys (5 and 9) in the BMW they just didn't fit anymore, the angle of their legs off the child seats meant their feet just didn't fit behind mine - the Superb on the other hand is just huge. My only gripes so far are a) the Start/Stop with DSG tries to kill you at every junction - pull up, engine stops, but you don't notice as it is so quite anyway, go to pull out and get a seconds delay while the engine starts meaning you miss the gap and have a car bearing down on you - far too many near misses b ) (and this is common to every modern car) the lack of taillights as DRLs I'll never understand the rational behind that decision. c) the Perrelli P7s, they slip too easily, if they don't improve with a few more miles I'll ditch them and get some PS4Ss. Both a & b can apparently be "fixed" with VCDS. Paddles are a must - the DSG is good but it is only reactive not predictive, to drive it well you need to be able to give it a hint now and then.
  11. My Sportline 280 only has 300miles on it at the moment so still in the run it period and even driving it fairly gently I'm not a fan of the P7s, they slip far too easily and that causes a groan from the passenger seat. I'll see if they improve as they continue to scrub in but if not I'll probably dump them and get some Michellin PS4Ss on there.
  12. That video isn't right and risks damaging the casing. However the way to do it is far from obvious, hopefully this picture will show where you are trying to get the screwdriver to go once you have removed the key. You are trying to get the tip of a small (3mm is a bit small, 5mm is too big) screwdriver to do down along side the little ramp (you can run it down the inside of the casing in the top half, just above the join line between the two halves) then give a little twist and a gap will open that you can get you finger nail into and pop that side of the cover off, then lift the cover a little and push the cover (fairly firmly) towards the other side to unhook it.
