  1. I find that most cars with auto-levelling feel like the light beam is too close but I'm sure we all know that this is done to stop it blinding oncoming traffic. If you have been adjusting it above this level in previous cars then you have probably been causing a danger to oncoming traffic. The fact that people often run with their lights set too high is why self levelling is a legal requirement for xenons and manufacturers are not allowed to let the use wind them up further. Personally I find the xenons on the sportline280 very good, yes I can't see as far or safely drive as fast as I would in daylight but these are road car lights not a rally setup after all, certainly they are far better than the non-xenon lights I have had on previous cars. If you still unsure the dealer has got it right just drop into a local garage and ask them to check it - many will do the check free on the hope of work. (My car is a standard 280Sportline, no options that affect the lights - not sure if you have an additional package for even smarter lights than the default)
  2. Allow the windows to operate when front door is open even if ignition is not on.
  3. Disable start/stop - with a DSG it just tries to kill you at every junction Enable rear side lights with DRLs - why would I not want people behind to see me as well Tune the engine to give the extra 70HP it's capable of Driver seat which goes lower Reduce throttle lag 2 rear fog lights - I know the arguments on both sides but personally I believe more light is better when visibility is poor (I know most of this can be fixed by various means)
  4. I don't know, they had the car in for a few days as it was in for other work and they had to order the parts. I don't think they had too remove too much as my hatchbag liner hadn't been disturbed much.
  5. Mine has just been done under warranty - changed the whole arm rest from what I understand and sent the old one back to Skoda.
  6. From the inspection I've done I think it is an assembly issue where one of the hinges isn't being clipped in properly and is then dropping out as you drive around. Or in my case it may have never been put in at all as the handle just fell off the first time went to open it. Good to know that when properly assembled people are using it without issue and that once fixed it should hopefully stay fixed.
  7. If you have any credit agency, credit card etc. in the transaction get them involved. Either it is a warranty issue or it is not fit for purpose. One way or another Skoda need to fix it. If necessary there is always the small claims court. If the parts are fit for purpose there should be no possible way to break the handle as the hatch would open and there would be no way to exert sufficient force to break it. Ours didn't even take any force and certainly felt to snap it just came straight off - I get the feeling the left hand hinge had already dropped out while driving around. From looking at the right hand hinge it looks thicker/stronger than the plastic on the handle itself so even if someone was to somehow exert excessive force I would have expected it to be the handle that broke first not the hinge. At the moment I suspect the hinges aren't being pushed in properly in the factory and are coming loose and dropping out. If they refused to fix it did they show you a snapped part and explain how you would break it before the hatch opened? Mine is in next week to have it fixed, no mention on the phone at time of booking that it won't be covered.
  8. Just opened ours for the first time and handle came off, exactly like pictures above. Starting to look like a design fault and is absolutely a warranty issue.
  9. I just get into the habit of pressing the down button as I set off or any time I notice it.
  10. I think mine is about 1/2" but yes this is a known "feature" that the seat won't remember positions at the limits
  11. So I got my Sportline 280 back in December and have done about 1600miles now. We have always felt the suspension was harsh when going over speed bumps etc., going over a speed bump always gave a real bang and felt like you had hit something and bottomed out the suspension. But not noticeable on general driving. Turns out we weren't going mad - the dealer hadn't done the PDI properly and had left the transport blocks in. One on each side one mine - some googling suggest some models have up to 3 each side. To see them you need to jack the front of the car up (please make sure you put something under it other than the jack to make sure it can't fall on you), or you may be able to get away with just turning the wheels to lock. Then you have to lift the rubber boot up - easier if it is jacked up and the suspension has dropped down. And see if there are and blue plastic bits inside - they can get stuck up inside the boot as well so have a good feel around. If you do have any they simply pop sideways off the suspension and are taken away. The car now drives nicely with no bangs or harsh impacts over speed bumps. For a bit of googling it sounds like this is all too common with VW group cars.
  12. Depends a lot on budget but I have the Thule SlideBars (they really do make loading much easier without having to stretch over the car), with Thule 598 bike racks (these are on offer on Halfords website at the moment I picked up an extra the other day). Avoid the 591 if you care about security at all - see youtube videos for why.
  13. There are some details here for Octavia - I believe Superb is the same. There are also some videos on youtube if you search
  14. I realise the OP has probably fixed this by now but thought I'd add to it in case anyone else comes across this post. If this doesn't happen anyway when the lights switch over - not sure if it does or not. It can be done in software adaptations using vcds/obdEleven - it is also possible to have them both enabled so it can be used anywhere.
  15. Thanks, its in with the dealer next week for something else so I'll get them to take a look.
  16. Can anyone tell me if this is normal (but odd) behaviour, or a fault. When the passenger opens the glove box while we are moving the maxidot shows the picture of the car with the tailgate flashing and makes a beeping noise. Seems very odd.... thanks
  17. When you collect it drop all the windows up and down a few times. The first time I dropped mine a month or so after I got it a deep scratch appeared up the passenger window - obviously from something caught in the rubber seal from the factory. Skoda are now refusing to do anything about it.
  18. I can sit comfortably behind myself if that makes sense. The main reason we brought the car - my 2 kids (7 & 5) who are still in kid seats meaning their legs stick forwards rather than bending over the edge as an adult would, they have loads of space far more than the BMW 5 series we had before and far more than the E class Merc we looked at.
  19. I'm 6'4" and run the Superb Sportline seats as low as possible. Find them perfectly comfortable. (I found that the electric seats go slightly lower than the manual ones and I like to sit as low as possible)
  20. So what was happening is - I'd lock the car with the fob or using kessy - touching the door handle both got the same behaviour - the doors lock, mirrors fold in - looking in through the window car picture appears on maxidot with boot flashing red (not really a very helpful alert as you don't normally look back inside when locking the car and it disappears when you unlock, if I used the fob and not kessy I'd probably never have noticed it) - leds on the door sills don't flash - lights (in Auto mode) stayed on, for longer than the normal coming home period - I went and turn them off as I needed to leave the car I open/closed the boot (manual) a few times and nothing changed. Hopefully it has fixed itself permanently.
  21. So, to update, I went out round the shops this morning making a couple of stops and by the time I got home it has "fixed" itself, time will tell how whether it is permanent or not. Some other bits I noticed when it was happening if the lights were in auto mode they stayed on even when the car was locked the alarm led on the door sill wasn't flashing
  22. Yes, saw that one thanks. In my case the boot (manual) does lock, I think it is probably the alarm that thinks there is an issue.
  23. So when I lock the car it has started showing a picture of a car on the maxidot with the boot flashing red. The boot is locked. Does anyone know what this is trying to tell me? I assume there is a fault somewhere but with what? thanks Paul
