  1. If you decide to use the link above would you mind posting the result please. I'm also looking to activate Smartlink in my 2016 Octavia. I rang the local dealer and they wanted £162 and hadn't got any in stock, when I asked, any what in stock, the guy said that he thought the way to activate Smartlink was by putting a sim card into the head unit and they were on a long back order from Ukraine.I have always been under the impression the dealer had to do some coding. I then rang the dealer where I bought my car from and they replied that they had no info for activation in Octavias because Octavias don't have Smartlink, every other skoda but not them. Since VAG stopped the TMC service I've had a phone on the windscreen running Waze just for live updates on the route but really would like to use the screen in the infotainment unit. Cheers
  2. I need to replace the glass in the drivers door mirror due to a clash of mirrors with some p***t going in the other direction. The glass glass was knocked out of the housing and is shattered, I've ordered a replacement and my question is does it matter which way round I connect the 2 cables to the back of the mirror ? I've pushed it back into the housing for now but obviously not connected the cables which I presume heat the mirror. I can still adjust it using the button on the drivers door. I have done a search but couldn't find an answer Thanks in advance
  3. I have 66 plate SE L and mine are heated and folding
  4. I rang Skoda UK customer service about this and they were about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike, so I nipped up to my local Skoda dealer. I explained the problem and a nice young lady came and fiddled with the infotainment system, she had no joy, so she went and got a mechanic, excuse me, a technician who did the same with the same result and said that's the best it will be ....................unless........... you want to book it in for us to do some diagnostics, we can look at the back end of the system and see if it can be fixed. I think someone has already posted a comment about that and the result was money down the drain. I declined the offer and said looks like I'll live with it. He then said you could always use WAZE that updates on the go, to which I replied yes, so did my Octavia till 4 weeks ago!......................
  5. My 66 plate Octavia displays the same message and it has not been for a dealer service for 3 years
  6. Nige I am not contradicting myself, my first post reads it gets to 90C within 5mins, my reply to Pete states that this has only started within the last couple of weeks whereas normally It doesn't get past 80C on my journey to work, 10-15 mins J In all the time I've owned this car I have never seen the needle waver, only steadily move towards 90C on the gauge whatever the outside temp was, as I've said it normally only gets to 80C on work days but on longer runs it's steady at 90C and never moves. As I've found out from this forum it's anything from 85ish to 105ish and still shows 90C. It was alarming to see the needle creep up to 65 then drop back to 50 it did this twice then went straight to 90C and is still doing it This is what lead me to have a scan done and ask the question about the location of sensor 2 and if there is no sensor 2 I don't understand how the the scanning device picked it up.
  7. On the device we used last night it showed sensor 1 and sensor 2, sensor 1 was at ambient, 15C , and sensor 2 was at -40C, after start up sensor 1 was slowly climbing while sensor 2 still read -40C, this leads us to believe sensor 2 is at fault
  8. Pete, Thanks for the reply, Engine code CRMB QMM This started only within the last couple of weeks, the scan was carried out last night using a professional scanning laptop type thingy that showed that the number 2 sensor was at fault, I know that there are 2 sensors in the cooling system but have no exact idea of their respective locations or colours, I believe the colour denotes the sensor number. My normal run to work takes approx. 10-15 mins depending on traffic and the gauge normally doesn't get past 80C before I get to work. I don't mind buying a genuine part but don't want to get the wrong one and have to pay a restocking fee if it's the wrong one Gaz, Thanks for your reply, The Cam belt and water pump were changed in April of this year at 36700miles (ish)
  9. I have 2016 2.0L Auto Diesel Octavia with 38000m on the clock I have a problem with the the engine temp gauge, soon after start up the needle wavers up and down and then goes vertical and is steady at 90C far too soon, within about 5 mins of normal driving, at whatever time of day, the coolant level is at the max mark on the tank so there is enough. I thought maybe the water pump belt had broken but no problem there I've had the car scanned and the only fault showing is the no2 coolant sensor. I think that it is identified by either a green or blackcap. Can anyone tell me where this is located please ? Thanks in advance.
  10. I had a similar problem with my rear washer being bunged up, most advice on this forum is to use VAG screen wash, which I do but it still gets bunged up. A simple solution I've found is to get some stranded electrical cable, twist a few strands together and work it into the nozzle, it should clear it, don't be tempted to use a needle in case it breaks
  11. I have just changed the tank, on my 31.000mile 66 plate 2L diesel, because It says MIT SILIKAT and don't want to fork out for a big bill if the bag bursts. I had a furk around in the tank but due to the tank design there is not much room to furk. Rang the main dealer Autosales in Burntwood for a price on a new one and also asked them to check it didn't have MIT SILIKAT printed on the tank and did not contain a bag, No was the reply to both questions, so parted with £30.14 which I thought was not bad although you don't get the cap So today I did the deed, it took longer to drain the tank with a turkey baster, you try getting one of them this side of Christmas, than it did to disconnect and refit the hoses. Now despite the old tank having MIT SILIKAT emblazoned on it the bag was nowhere to be found, so, either it has already been removed which I doubt, it's burst but the coolant has not changed colour, nice and pink and the heater still works or there was never one in the tank in the first place. On having a closer look at the old tank it appears to be twin walled and the bag seems to be located to the left of the MIT SILIKAT printing between the walls of the tank. Not a very hard job to do at all, hope this is of some help
  12. I had an issue whereby the fob wouldn't work, the light on the fob flashed but the car wouldn't lock, no low battery warning on the dash display, fitted a new battery and still zilch, had a word with my mates son who is a Skoda tech and was advised that as the light on the fob was working the fob needed reprogramming, had to take both keyfobs to the local dealer and it took 30 mins and cost about £51. I think if the light on the fob doesn't work /flash even with a new battery you could be looking at £200plus. I have no Idea what caused the issue, It unlocked ok drove home (10mins) and as I said wouldn't work, the spare fob worked a treat.
  13. Hi I had one fitted to my 2016 Octavia I only wanted single electrics so didn't go for the all singing all dancing wiring as I only tow a small trailer occasionally and don't have a problem with the reversing sensors. One tip is to put a shoe box or some such at the height and position of where the tow ball will be and then put the car into reverse and listen for the sensors sounding, hope this helps
  14. Apologies if this has been answered before, I've had a search and can't find anything, Had a dash cam fitted to the wife's 2015 Fabia a few months ago and since then the rear wiper has stopped working, the washer works ok, looking in the manual I see it's fuse 27, looking in the fuse box I see fuse 27 is missing, so I tried fuse 22 (7.5A) for the front and rear wipers in fuse 27 position and the rear wiper works. Question is, can anyone tell me what size fuse to use for the rear wiper please? I have found ratings according to the colour but as I said this particular fuse is missing, looking at the rest of the fuses there is nothing below 7.5A Thanks in advance
  15. He cleans his car every week with my pressure washer, then waxes and buffs it up, (treats his car better than his girlfriend, lol), looks ok to me , never offers to clean my Octy though......
  16. Hi My son has a 62 plate black VRS and he used plastic primer and black gloss, 3 coats of primer and 2 gloss, he couldn't get any clear coat, but it doesn't look too bad
  17. I bought a new full size steel wheel and tyre with the jack and tool kit etc for about £78 for my 66 plate Octy from the well known online auction site, certainly didn't want / would use a space saver
  18. I would go for a humane trap, I have used these instead of a bait station. they are square section about 18" long and raised at one end, when the mouse goes for the bait which is in the raised end, the trap tips, a gate come down and closes the end keeping the mouse in the trap, you can then deal with it. Try putting it in the footwell and bait it with chocolate, it works every time.
  19. Hi, I was quoted £550 for supply and fit a swan neck from an independent supplier for the specific loom / connections etc or £280 for just connecting and not stopping the reverse sensors, I checked with the dealer and was told that this was ok and would not affect the warranty, as I only really tow a small trailer every now and again I settled for this option. In truth, I wanted a towbar fitted in case of a rear end knock, which is exactly what happened 5 days after picking the car up and and 2 days before the towbar was due to be fitted, previous car was a Kia Sorento with a towbar and had a similar situation, no damage to me but the other guy.............
  20. Don't know if you've sorted this yet but I had the same problem , the card was held in by a brass clip, presumably to stop it being stolen. a gentle but firm tug with some needle nose plies got the clip off, then as normal push the card in and out it popped, hope this is of help to you.
  21. I have used length of bubble wrap as a protector for years, pull it tight and close the doors, in the morning remove and give it a shake. Cheap and cheerful !
  22. I've had one fitted, hard wired, for nearly 12 months with no loss of reception at all, used kit from Halfords and my mates son who works for Skoda wired it in with no problem. How have you routed the power supply? mine comes along the top of the windscreen just inside the head lining, down the nearside windscreen column and then into a live feed in the fuse box
