Back in February this year at 6,400 miles my completely standard 272 made 283bhp (287PS) on the rolling road with 369nm with no mods other than being run on Tesco Momentum. Skoda claim 268bhp and 350nm so perhaps someone could post the 280 on a rolling road with no mods to intake etc for comparison. The extra gear that the 272 has actually helps it accelerate quicker than the 280 also.

Both the Octy and 272 feel firm at say 30mph in town and can thump on badly surfaced/pot holed urban roads. However pick up the pace (17 miles of my commute is motorway) and ride is better in the Superb even though both cars are lowered the same 15mm compared to less sporty models in their range. Wife was quite happy sitting in the sports seats in the Sportline for 5 hours straight as we did a recent 280 mile drive down to Newquay in Cornwall whereas she probably would have asked me to stop after 3 hours in the Octy. Small thing probably only available on the later 272 Sportline Plus is standard Dynamic Progressive steering which is very good indeed but not sure whether it was available on the earlier 280 model. Think the longer wheelbase in the Superb gives the better ride. My car even has lower than standard 235/35R19 Michelin tyres.

Although my 2019 Sportline does not have DCC you can still take roundabouts and corners at very high speeds (even higher than my previous 2017 Octavia Vrs245 could) and the main thing you notice is the total traction all the time even in the wet so you start to wonder if the traction control light has been disconnected. The 4WD grip is amazing and it may be a part-time system but when you need it either launching from a standstill or pressing on it still amazes me how effective it is even after more than 9,000 miles so far since collecting it last December.

Playing Devil's Advocate if you remapped both the 2.0TDI and the 1.5Tsi they would end up around the same power as the 190PS 2.0 litre petrol yet still be more economical than the 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine (cake and eat it).

I think you mean DCC adaptive dampers. They are more likely to be found on the L & K which would sit 5mm higher than a Sportline on normal passive dampers which are 15mm lower than a S, SE or SEL.

As a Revo article I read recently explained most drivers use part throttle for most of their journeys and a modern petrol engine like the 1.5 TSi feels just as lively accelerating from say 60 to 70mph even in 6th gear on the motorway overtaking a truck in the inside lane.

It was enough in 2005 to feel nippy in my Mk1 Fabia Vrs diesel.

But a 2.0 litre engine is always going to out perform a 1.5 litre engine (petrol or diesel). My 2.0 litre Superb only produced 369nm at a high 4,500rpm until the remap sorted that out with 480nm at 2,400rpm and a maximum of 514nm now at 2,800rpm now compare that to the 340nm 2.0 litre diesel. Also the diesel takes longer to get to 60mph compared to the 1.5 litre petrol as it runs out of usable revs compared to a petrol. The gap would be even greater were they to keep accelerating upto 100mph. Driving the wife's Karoq 1.5 litre manual petrol tonight it averaged 54mpg on my 27 mile commute and petrol is cheaper to buy than diesel in the UK at least.

Back in the wife's Karoq for my 3 nights and it has half a tank left after 237 miles driven with 240 miles range left so probably fill up Sunday.

Hope the Jag if you take the plunge is more reliable than your troublesome Octavia.

Just looked at my dyno graph on my 2.0TSi Superb and as the boost builds even when standard it reaches 350nm at 2,400rpm even though peak torque of 369nm arrives much later at 4,500rpm due to the large IS38 turbo. Smaller turbo's spin up quicker and earlier of course.

Read a blog by Revo and as they stated the engine oil starts quite thick and as you drive and everything warms up they state you shouldn't give the turbo some beans until engine oil reaches a minimum of 80C.

Don't forget to deduct a point for good behaviour on October 13th (spamming whatever that means)

Well it is much faster than an Octavia judging by the Meteor Grey Mk3 Vrs I went past on the sliproad before joining the motorway but if I say I went over 70mph there are some sad people on this forum that report me and I get banned unlike my clean driving licence. Living with a trouble free car is probably boring but I'm glad I bought a good one with a good engine that delivers stunning performance and surprisingly good economy given it's size and weight. If you're ever in the Midlands you can take it for a spin and it may surprise you too.

After 33 months and 27,500 miles in a Karoq I don't think my wife would be happy if I bought her a Fabia with it's much lower seating position.

This is why my wife hasn't driven my 2019 Superb since she did something similar on my 2016 White Superb. Think it's called spatial awareness.

Monday evening's commute involved pressing the go faster pedal a few times (it can be quite addictive) resulting in a poor for me journey average of 32.9mpg but last night was a better 39.0mpg. This tank which will last another month because it will sit in the drive feeling unloved for 24 days when I'm on holiday in 2 weeks time. By end of play today mileage will be 14,093 and this tank driven 315 miles so far with indicated 285 miles range left at an average of 37.9mpg.

If budget is tight then go for the 6 speed DSG 280 and as the guys say just a stage 1 map should give you a minimum 360bhp and 500nm with 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds which is better than a stage 2 FWD Leon can manage. If your budget can stretch to over £20,000 the 4WD 272 which I bought last December has the latest 7 speed DQ381 gearbox which reduces motorway revs to 2,000rpm (70mph) and will use less fuel than the 280. Both 272 and 280 share the same excellent Golf R vented brakes 340mm front and 310mm rear which mean even my car's 360bhp doesn't require a BBK (brake kit upgrade) IMHO. Traction even in the wet is crazy effective and I can't believe I didn't switch to 4wd YEARS AGO.
