  1. Just int next county lad! Yorkshire covers a large area eh? I'm in North Derbyshire, High Peak.
  2. Yes have a few pics, have you got an email for me.
  3. Yes I guess you would need to be able to do one in an afternoon if you wanted to earn a living at it. I work slowly and with that job I was double checking things at least. The car was new to me and was on 80K and the last documented change was 5 years previous at 38Kish, I had a look at the belt a couple of times and it looked a bit tired but not split or perished anywhere I could see but it wasn't so tight anymore that's for sure. When I got the old stuff off the car, the bearings on the roller and idler/tensioner pulley were in good shape but the water pump was noticeably tighter than the new one. I was driving around upto 3K rpm but have been letting the revs go a bit since the change but its a 13 year old practical car to see me through a change in career for the next year or two - it just happened to have the 1.8T under the bonnet as a bonus :-)
  4. Just for those reading this post, when I go to GSF car parts and look at belt kits the cheapest one is £94.80 without a water pump!! So to clarify; I have for sale a Tensioner Pulley and Tensioner Damper complete with roller. All you need is a belt at £24-£30 and a water pump.
  5. The price is staying at £50 If you PM me an email address I can send you pics of the items just so you know what's included...
  6. I guess not but ask a silly question and you get a silly answer? I do like your forum name tho :-)
  7. I bought a VAG repair kit from TPS and as it was on Parts Club Promotion it was only £60+vat and the Water Pump was the same price including the surcharge (that you get back when you take your old unit in) When I got the kit out at home I didn't understand how the Belt was tensioned, so after actually looking into what I had set out to do I discovered this Hydraulic Tensioner thing and TPS were quoting me £102 for a genuine one so I ended up with a German INA Tensioner from GSF car parts via Ebay for another £60 (including express delivery) I haven't seen the Gates kit but that seems like the easiest and cheapest option, although I did see on Eurocarparts there is a Contitech kit with everything in (excluding water pump) for £150 but if you could get that with their crazy 50% off prices then that would obviously be a bargain. Oh I changed my Aux Pulley belt too and that was £27 for a genuine VAG part, again from TPS. That's a good picture above, is that one you did yourself?
  8. Thanks, I was pleased with how well it went, although it still took me 12 hours start to finish! I used a new Tensioner seen as everything else was new, is it ok to re-use them? I saw the marks on the cover as I cleaned it all to put back on, but this was after the job was done. Yes I was annoyed that there were no marks on the Crank but then after thinking about it more I realised that I was simply replacing the belt and not having to time the engine up after a rebuild so then it was all OK and I just got on with it.
  9. I changed my Timing Belt and Water Pump about a month ago using this guide: http://forums.vwvort...ead.php?2840728 I thought it would be useful to have it in here as I have not found anything when using the search? It's pretty much self explanatory but one tip I do have for anyone trying this themselves is to remove the small roller from the Tensioner and fit this last. Also, I removed everything from that side of the Engine Bay, Coolant Expansion Tank, Power Steering Tank and all associated pipes and breathers. I also removed the Driver's front wheel, all the plastic tray type stuff and Pancake Pipe as the OP does. No I didn't manage to completely remove the Engine Mounting and just moved it around as required. I did not use the Flywheel marks, just the Cam Sprocket mark and nail varnish for the Crank Sprocket.
  10. Hi can you PM me an email address and I can send some pics, thanks.
  11. I think it does fit the MK1 VRS. £35 sounds like a joke TBH
  12. Still available, come on now, winter will be here again soon lol, don't get caught out again.
  13. Still available. Sorry if anyone has been expecting a reply but been busy last few days.
  14. North Derbyshire, High Peak area. What about you, which Midlands are you?
  15. I have had this frame sitting in cupboard for a year or so now. It's a 2004 model, cream and black, with a fox vanilla R coil shock. The bushes and bearings on the frame were changed recently with heavy duty MTB specific bearings, should be good for a few years. The bushes on the shock are worn and there is some play but still rideable if you wanted to but you would probs want to replace them. Quality FSA orbit extreme headset fitted - lovely and smooth. Hope QR on the seat post. Great thrashable frame with many scratches, dents and flaky paint thrown in no extra cost to you! Disc only frame, standard IS mounts. £30 07903 607567
  16. I have for sale some 'spare' parts from changing my timing belt last weekend. I panicked a bit during the ordering parts phase and ended up with an extra tensioner (with roller) and tensioner pulley. It's good quality INA brand kit, which uses the same brand of bearing as the genuine VAG parts I got from TPS. Brand new in box with receipt from Eurocarparts It's everything you need apart from the actual timing belt (but remember to do your water pump at same time) I paid £83.82 for this but just need to shift it now so will settle for £70 ono Text or call 07903 607567
  17. 4 of these available, genuine VAG and regular black. Bought but never used for my old Fabia, now have an Octy with 15" wheels and they are just taking up space. 1 is like new, 2 are excellent condition and 1 is a little scruffy £80 can sell separately at £20 each collection preferred but can meet up short distance Text 07903 607567
  18. 2 days without a motor...

  19. Good to meet you today Mike, thanks for the test drive, shame that my car not up to your standards but hey ho. I was well impressed with the Elegance and the DSG is nothing short of amazing, first time I have driven one, got to be the best gear changer after a Playstation/Xbox controller in first position! Seriously it is 2013 why aren't all cars like that? Had a lot of fun on way home, there is nothing better than overtaking every car in a massive queue in your humble Skoda!! GLWTS
