  1. OK folks. Now have the Quartz Grey 2.0 TDi and today (Friday) finally got the Towbar fitted. Caravan to be serviced next week and tyres to be changed (over five years old now and with COVID it's been sat in one spot for months) and away the week after. Stress levels have been high the last few weeks so looking forward to the break. Best of luck to those having similar problems. Chris
  2. My fitter said there won't be a problem. He does a lot of work for the dealer at Colne. Fitting a new Kodiaq when I spoke to him.
  3. Unfortunately there's only one winner when buying cars and it ain't us. All the best.
  4. Maybe sorted out now. I've gone for a 2.0 Diesel in Quartz Grey from dealer stock. Issue does not affect the Octavia Diesels. Costing a bit more due to the engine option but end of the day its down to lesson's learnt. Figures have been played around with so under our current circumstances we are going ahead. Dealer has offered to pay for my reg plate transfer I don't have to do anything on that (not sure how they do that as if they apply for a retention from DVLA say next week the number comes off the car immediately and I'mstill driving it, we will see). Insurance won't be any more and I can do a deal with the GAP insurance people. The servicing plan I took out can be sorted. Should have the new one within seven days. To be fair the dealer has been extremely proactive on this and I would still definitely recommend them. Others may have been the opposite! Most important, it's already booked in for the towbar! Hopefully I'll get 1K miles on and mostly run in before we go on Hols in May. See what next week brings!!!!!!
  5. My dealer has said that they will specify Towbar Prep in future for all cars ordered for stock.
  6. Do you know what the problem with coding was from the original towbar fitter. A few tales around about with these type of issues with later models. Could be the kit / IT they are using? Good to hear you got it sorted.
  7. Legally I should have rejected the car within 30 days but I didn't know this problem until last week. If the dealer is waiting for a mug to come along with an open wallet, looks like he's got one! Car is six weeks old tomorrow (Friday 23rd).
  8. Have the figures for a deal. Basically I've lost £4K on mine over six weeks and been offered the model down from mine for more money than I'm paying now. I need to put another deposit down! Offered a hatch or estate. Need to figure in the cost of changing my GAP insurance and personal plate change. Shall we say negotiations are ongoing. Not impressed last night. Well out of pocket for something that's miss sold and not my fault!
  9. Interesting to hear what your dealer says and does. All the best.
  10. OK so we have the final outcome. Skoda cannot replace the VIN plate so it's a new / different car. In discussion with the dealer at present. Doesn't seem to be may new cars in stock in the country. Waiting to see the dealers figures (££££). That will be interesting!
  11. Not sure what the diffuser is for. My towbar fitter mentioned on the Tow Trust Swan Neck towbar the dealers sell a couple of covers for the bumper cutout but he said if the cut is done discreetly they aren't needed. I may get further news on my issue tomorrow so I'll post any news ASAP.
  12. Dealer has told me that the Towbar Prep consists of three parts, two looms and a diffuser. That's for the UK models. I'm surprised no mention of cooling modifications (hot and high countries?) and no idea what the diffuser is for.
  13. Wife had a call from her legal people today. Didn't say anything we don't really know just clarification from a consumer point really. In my case I should be able to get a refund or alternative car. Don't know the legality of towing Didn't mention that, assume I can't as previously mentioned.
  14. Not a stupid question at all. That's what I've been asking the dealer and they are asking Skoda. What does your VIN plate state?
  15. Disappointing vehicle the Terrano. Never really happy with it.
  16. Hi Ajdude, Wife rang her legal team this morning and they will reply within 24 hours so should know more tomorrow. My fitter said it was illegal in my case to fit the bar but others say it's OK to fit so long as it's used for say a bike rack and not to tow (one expensive bike rack holder!). Hopefully they can answer this in addition to advising on my / our consumer rights. On a side note my dealer has written to Skoda UK to ask for advice on what would be required to modify / update the VIN plate. Credit to the salesman they have been very proactive on this. Stupid thing is the issue seems to be having 'Towbar Preperation' fitted from the factory as a minimum. From what I've been told from the dealer this is mearly wiring from the fusebox area to the boot area. The dealer said he can fit this although this wiring is included in the dedicated kits the fitters use! I asked about additional cooling (bigger fan) but no not for this (UK) market apparently. See what Skoda come back with. I'll update ASAP
  17. My towbar fitter said coding shouldn't be an issue with the Mk4 but following other issues highlighted on this forum he's going to check with his diagnostic supplier on Monday. Ref the previous post, holding the car for a week is worrying. If I ever get my towing weight plate issue sorted (another subject!) the coding could be the next hurdle! Interesting what your towbar fitter has to say about the warning.
  18. Did this come up straight away or some time after? I have heard that coding on the Mk4 is somewhat different to earlier versions.
  19. Searching for an alternative car is the bit that worries me. Am I obliged to accept the first thing they offer? I rejected a Nissan Terrano once. What a saga!
  20. What engine gearbox combination do you have
  21. I wouldn't have confidence either. I'd need it in writing. Absolutely crazy but I've had a look at my wife's 2020 Mazda 2 1.5 petrol plate. Small hatchback car 90 BHP no turbo, yet it is rated for pulling a braked trailer up to 900kg
  22. Yes no problem. Wife working from home so hopefully will be able to contact the legal team. Hit and miss at present. This issue has could turn out to be massive. Will cover more cars than the Octavia Mk4. What about other VAG group cars Read something last night about the smaller Skoda SUVS. Same issue. Interesting that the bouchure mentions the limitation and not the handbook! You don't need to read the brochures legally but you do need to read the handbook. I tend not to read e brochures anyway. Do the Dealerships?
  23. My issues are with a 1.5 Tsi 150 Bhp. Same engine I had on my Karoq and no problems with power when towing whatsoever.
  24. According to my fitter its the fact that its fitted is the problem. However I have no legal confirmation. My wife works for a motor legal company so she will enquire on Monday. Regards Chris
