Planning to Tow With a New Car - BEWARE
Unfortunately that's all I have on this subject. As per one of my posts I ended up having to change the car to an SE Diesel. Never happy with it due to software issues and long lead times for some parts so in October 22 I swapped for a Mazda. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

EPB & Auto Hold Not Releasing Issue - Again.
OK so had the car booked into another local dealer late last month for the Auto Hold and EPC auto release issue who confirmed it needed a major Software upgrade which would take a few hours. Booked in this morning for the upgrade, just collected it and I must say driving the twenty miles home there is no difference. Not sorted. Thought it was me at first but having tried countless times at home fairly sure it's not. Had the S/W fix for the SOS phone popping at the same time, hopefully fixed now. Just simmering down a little before I ring the dealer back. Spare a thought for my daughter with her twelve month old Audi A1. Alarm keeps going of once its been set and as of this morning she cannot get an appointment at the supplying dealer until the end of November. Siren now been temporarily disabled!!!!!!

Brilliant, thanks 😊

EPB & Auto Hold Not Releasing Issue - Again.
Thanks for that. I had mine booked into the supplying dealer (Vantage) back in September 2021 for this, but they weren't aware of any S/W fix then (bear in mind this is the same service dept that wanted to charge me £90+ for a diagnostic check for an engine management light last May, luckily there was a fault code logged!). Don't suppose you have a reference or campaign number? Appreciate it's a while back. Good information for when I start ringing round tomorrow 👍. Thanks again.

EPB & Auto Hold Not Releasing Issue - Again.
Unfortunately not. Looking at the kit for this on a YouTube video last night. Seeing as my daughter has recently changed her old Audi A1 for a new one may pay to invest in the kit for both cars.

EPB & Auto Hold Not Releasing Issue - Again.
Folks, Appreciate this subject has been talked to death but I need some information from the forum to assist my case. As one of my previous posts explains I've had the issue of EPB and Auto Hold not auto releasing intermittently since delivery and the supplying dealer won't do anything (no fault codes logged). It seemed to work fine for a few months earlier this year but as of three weeks ago the auto release its totally U/S. Now, the exact same issue has been reported on various VAG forums but in all but one there was no known fix, owners are living with the fault (one VW TRoc owner had a Software fix which worked long term). If anyone has experienced this issue on their Octavia Mk4 and has received a fix that actually worked, could you let me know please. Going to contact a few independent VAG garages and other dealers in the North West next week. Enough is enough. Many thanks.

One Step Forward, Two back.
Thanks for the comments guys. As far as the EPB /AUTO HOLD goes just keeping my foot on the brake pedal or flipping the EPB switch on an off. Hope the EPB switch is durable and going to last. Interesting I've read that this was an issue with VW T Rocs and VW put out new software to fix some time ago. Why haven't Skoda done the same?

One Step Forward, Two back.
Well once I had my O2 Sensor replaced after waiting six weeks (ref another post of mine), I thought the issues with this car may be over.....errr NO. Away in the Lake District last weekend and I was getting a warning for Emergency Phone U/S Contact Workshop along with a popping noise from the roof area (is there a speaker hidden in the roof panel?). Last Monday when starting up to Drive home from work my old friend the EPB and AUTO HOLD wouldn't auto release (no warnings with this). Ref one of my posts from last year, I booked the car into the supplying dealer in September 2021 to get the EPC and AUTO HOLD sorted. At the time I was told there was no fault code recorded or Software updates available even though others on this and other forums had received an EPB update. Time to try another dealer outside my area I think??????? Both my nearest dealers have been hard work over the last few years with fixing things. No fault code no fix. Anyone have experience of dealers in the Manchester / Warrington / Liverpool areas? Going to have a chat with a VW independent this week see what they can tell me.

Used SE First Edition - what to look for?
Or....did the dealer forget to order until I rang them last week?

Used SE First Edition - what to look for?
Agree with sneal with all in his post. I cannot understand why they fitted the smaller screen and Swing audio unit in the SE FE where the SE had what would seem a better spec. Be aware, one issue I have is excessive lead times on parts. Ref one of my posts, I've been waiting five weeks tomorrow for a replacement O2 Sensor to clear an Engine Management Light. In comparison my wife's Mazda 2 (MY 20) door mirror played up a while ago. The dealer ordered a new motor without having to take the car for inspection, the part arrived the next day. Not impressed with Skoda or the attitude of the dealer. Beware!

Retrofit from Swing to Bolero
The smaller screen doesn't bother me. I to prefer the rotary controls against the larger screen setup.4

Engine Management Light - Dealer Charge For Diagnostic Check
Just to clarify, no there was no charge as there was a fault code present (and Engine Management Light on), just having a moan about waiting a month + for the part.

Engine Management Light - Dealer Charge For Diagnostic Check
Update Took the car in to be told it was an O2 sensor but OK to drive. Told the part is on Backorder and would be two weeks!!!! It will be a month tomorrow (Friday) since the dealer visit and still no part. Forecast is sometime next week. Cannot remember which sensor it is out of the two wonder if they are the same part?

Replace key battery warning
Just had the battery warning myself. That will be two batteries changed in 13 months of ownership. Nipped out to Screwfix to get a pack of four Varta batteries so see how we go with these. I've put a spare in the handbook file in the glove compartment.

Engine Management Light - Dealer Charge For Diagnostic Check
Crazy.......more like Highway Robbery. Wait and see on Friday when it goes in. Blocked DPF was mentioned to me as a possible cause but I do thirty miles a day on A roads so I'm not sure about that. Not as though it's used around town. Also doesn't the DPF have it's own warning light on the Mk4? Thanks for the replies folks.

Engine Management Light - Dealer Charge For Diagnostic Check
Mmmmmgood point anyone have the number? To be honest I only have the number for Britannia Rescue in my phone. Never had a proper handover due to Covid.

Engine Management Light - Dealer Charge For Diagnostic Check
Yet another problem to report. Engine Management Light came on on the way home tonight. Car seems to run fine but straight on the phone to the dealer to get it booked in as I need it next week for an airport run. Booked in later this week but I was told of a possible £90+ charge for a diagnostic check if the fault was not considered to be covered under warranty. Anyone know what could possibly not be covered under warranty at one year and three days old. Unfortunately I don't have a Code reader. Thanks

Do you feel mis sold on your mk4
Yes. Still waiting for someone from either the dealer or Skoda to get back to me on my claim for iffy paintwork. I won't mention the software issues!

Shame about the engines/gearbox
Any idea what the fault was with the clutch at only 11K?. Was this a random 'One Off' issue?

Jacking Points For Trolley Jack.
Anyone have details about jacking points suitable for a Trolley Jack? I was warned off using the sill points normally used for the car Jack, even when using a 'puck' style jack adapter. Searched the net but nothing came up for the Mk 4 Octy.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
We subscribe to Practical Caravan magazine and I've noticed on a couple of towcar reviews lately were VAG Group vehicles have been under test, the writer advises that the buyer is aware of the issues where the cars are sometimes not plated for towing from the factory. My daughter had a 2018 Audi A1 999cc and at the time I fell foul of this issue last year with my first Mk4, I noticed hers was plated to tow 1000kg. She changed this last year for the new shape 2022 MY Audi A1, exactly the same spec, engine etc. The new A1 isn't plated for towing? Interesting that a few VAG models with the 999cc 115bhp engine have featured well in the Towcar of the Year Awards in recent years. These ToY cars come ready fitted with manufacturers towbars for the ToY test but even the Caravan Clubs don't seem to highlight the possible issue to their members. My experience of this last year cost me a fair bit in the end! All the best with yours.

Octavia Mk4 aftermarket towbar
Do you not have a Towbar fitter locally? That quote is astronomical. Mine is a Tow Trust with a dedicated 13 pin electrics kit. Cost about £ 430 ish from memory. Lucky really as I have two fitters local that I've used in the last few years and would recommend.

DIRECT TPMS Question - Octavia Mk4
Thanks for your comments guys, interesting! No wheel or tyre damage from what I can see. Also when the warning comes up there is no indication of a fault from any tyre. Tyres or brakes are not warm or hot, not normally been driving for long when the warning appears. My note about the fault codes came from comments from the technician last year when it was in for the Auto Hold and Electronic Handbrake release issue. Let's hope the dealership are more proactive when it's in for service in April. I have a few issues for them to look at.

Roof bars - what do you have?
I've always used Thule but when I got the Octavia Estate last year couldn't get stock locally and prices on the Web were high, I'm told down to supply and demand (staycations). Ended up with a set of budget bars from Amazon as I needed to get some timber home urgently (ordered M Way brand but they sent Summit Brand, the budget ones may all be the same anyway). Seem to be fine very solid and quiet believe it or not but not sure long term if you intend to keep them fitted for long periods. Seems to take my Thule bike rack OK. A chap round the corner from me has the same bars and he uses them for his job. Fitted year round. I'm not so sure about the flush mounting rails on the Octy 4, prefer the raised rails as on the old Karoq.

DIRECT TPMS Question - Octavia Mk4
Hi everyone, Anyone had TPMS issues with their Octavia Mk 4s. There are many posts on the forum and the Internet regarding TPMS issues but nothing related to the Octavia Mk 4 in particular. Quite a few posts for VAG group as a whole, but no fixes published. Seeing as many of us are suffering Software issues with the Mk4, I thought I would add this post. I’ve been getting an INDIRECT TPMS warning quite regularly for the last couple of months, more or less every other day. Driving along I’m getting a warning about a TPMS error and a flashing warning light which stays on constantly after a minute or so. When the engine / Ignition are turned off and then back on the warning light disappears (as noted in the handbook), so I assume this is a spurious warning and not logged as a fault on the ECU? The central screen tells me to check pressures and the car picture / symbol shows amber illuminated tyres. If I go onto the next Tyre menu (the one with the small plan view of the car) none of the tyres are illuminated amber (seen a number of posts on the Internet where this shows the faulty tyre illuminated in Amber). To try and solve this I’ve done the following: · Checked all tyre pressures to the figures shown on the filler door label, 2.6 Bar Front & 2.7 Bar Rear (Normal driving). · Monitored tyre pressures daily – NO loss of pressure noted at any time, confirmed with two different tyre pressure gauges (I was off work with COVID last month, the car didn’t more for ten days, no loss in tyre pressure when rechecked)! · Checked the security of the valve cores (Simple tool for this as I had this issue on another car). · Monitored the outside air temperature to see what impact this has, basically none! (air temp during the period has been between -2⁰ and +12⁰ C.) · Obviously, checked the tyres for damage. · Reset the TPMS on the screen (advised to press the caption several times to ensure the new readings have been registered by the system). Doesn’t seem to give an audible warning to say it’s accepted the readings on mine. Car is due for it’s 1st service in April so I'll ask the dealer to look at it, but as I found last year with my sticking AUTO HOLD and the Parking Brake which were intermittent (previous post of mine), unless there is a Fault Code the dealer won’t do anything (I’m told Skoda will not authorise repairs without a Fault Code). I really want to like this car. Relatively affordable to buy and run, drives well, pulls the caravan OK, looks good, but I’m tired of the number of faults I’m getting on a new car. I’m still waiting to see if Skoda is going to repair the ‘iffy’ paint on the roof, reported to the dealer last September and again in October. Admit the issues don’t stop me using the car but it’s annoying and doesn’t inspire confidence in the product. Any TPMS comments folks would be greatly appreciated. All the best, Chris
