Roof Bars/Bike Rack
Pretty sure they all look awful on a hatch due to needing to clamp round the roof. Why they don't include fixings on the top like many other cars I don't know. When I've looked at them, the skoda genuine ones look quite nice and pick up on the locating holes I think. They are narrower as they don't overhang though, so likely a Thule set may be better if you need that overhang width for bikes. I have Thule Aerobars on another car and I couldn't really hear them inside until I put the roof box on.

Which driving mode do you use?
It's kinda sounding like this DSG business takes more input and effort than just changing gear the good old fashioned way! Everyone seems to be switching modes and the like constantly. I thought the idea was to not have to worry about that. As far as I can tell in a manual the modes make no difference to economy if you have half decent control over your right foot. I tried eco and normal and just found it laggy and annoying when I wanted to make progress, but with no benefit. As stated above though, if you've got CC on, the ecu is taking control of your throttle anyway, so the mode selection is redundant.

Detailed Octavia Specifications/Part Database
There's a few stickies, but quite often the info is just buried in threads but hard to find and people just ask the same quesitons over and over and over..... I'm pretty sure I've seen about 50 threads about upgrading stereo systems 😂

Setting memory with electric seats doesnt work
Nope, I forgot I replied to this and started a new thread the other day actually. No is the short answer. Not sure what's wrong with it or how to sort it at the mo. Annoyingly it wasn't bothering me until this weekend, now I've fitted a new child seat behind mine and have to have mine tilted slightly more forward, so the 1 memory position that was ok, not isn't. I'll just not press the memory buttons for now.

Sport. I can't really see the point of the other two modes on a manual tbh.

MOT Failure
Ouch. To be fair, that's why I didn't worry about buying from a dealer when I got my car. My parents bought from a skoda dealer many moons ago and I still remember them slowly finding out how little was covered and getting increasingly annoyed. Surprised the car doesn't flag up a faulty O2 sensor though.

Looking to improve grip & handling of 2.0 TSI 220 PS
May be worth double checking, but I think this is the one https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/genuine-21-7mm-x-3-6mm-vw-mk7-golf-clubsport-s-rear-anti-roll-bar-upgrade.html

Memory seats
Worth a try, but alas, no, didn't do anything. I've tried all combinations but no, doesn't do it.

Also, don't forget upgraded ARBs. I believe the ones from the golf clubsport are the best ones to straight swap. Don't forget that if you suffer from bad road surfaces harder suspension will likely suffer too. Not just in rude quality but also in skipping on the bumps. I previously lowered a car with Koni adjustable dampers and lowering springs. Awesome handling on good roads, with hardly any lean, but on a bad condition country road I'd feel the wheels leave the tarmac as it skipped over bumps. So, ironically, the places where I wanted to use the handing the most, I couldn't.

Memory seats
That would be a pain for me, if the seat is in my wife's position, I can't get in the car! 🤣

MOT Failure
Genuinely intrigued - how does an engine taking in no oil vapour from the crankcase negatively affect the emmisions? If anything, surely it helps them? I know some people replace the pipes with little breather filters so they don't gunk up their air inlet with oil...

Memory seats
I have electric passenger seat, but it's got no memory function, the memory is only on the driver's seat. I'm fairly sure that even with the keys working, the buttons should still work. That would be absurd if it didn't... you go grab your wife's keys to pop out and then have to set the seat manually? But no, I only have 2 keys, not 3. That's all the car came with, tbh until now I didn't question whether there should be more as I presumed that was normal. I'll try the method above then. I did google it and it seems the issue has come up and people have taken it to a dealer, who's done something undefined and it's been ok after. I have a feeling it may be linked to the bad battery I had as when I looked on OBD11 after that there was a whole load of errors logged due to the low voltage.

Memory seats
I did try locking the car and unlocking with the seat in another position but it didn't return to my position when I unlocked it. It does when I press 1 though and doesn't move again. I don't have kessy btw. I'm not sure what you mean though, the buttons should work, however many keys I have. I'm not overly concerned about the keys thing mind as I use both keys anyway so don't particularly want that set.

Memory seats
I've tried pressing the set and number together or just the set button but I get no beep/bong to show the seat position is set.

Memory seats
So, when I got the car, I set the memory 1 position to my seat position. I didn't set the others. I tried recently to set up position for my wife and it won't allow me to. It doesn't beep when you hold the button down. It still remembers position 1 ok if I change the position though. It also puts it to the same position if I hit memory 2, but sets the mirrors right down. I can manually adjust everything fine and tbh it's not really an issue as I mainly drive the car so it doesn't come up much. I've no idea how you're supposed to set it up per fob either, pretty sure it's supposed to do that but doesn't seem to do anything when I unlock it. Any ideas? I considered wiping the seat memory via the infotainment system but I'll probably just end up wiping position 1 and not be able to set any then. I have obd11 if that helps, no errors are flagged up relating to seats.

Different wheels
Erm, the OP asked for more sporty wheels than the current 16" ones fitted. I'm fairly sure 15" steel wheels with plastic wheel trims aren't going to fit into that category. For the record, 18" wheels with the standard 225/40 tyres provides a perfectly comfortable ride, I can't see there being any issues with ride comfort until you go down to the 35 profile of 19".

Service plan questions
There's a big difference as to what the car 'needs' and what you need to do to either keep a warranty valid or maintain value come resale. My other car is 21 years old, has been serviced by me for 13.5 years and do I stick to the rigid 2yrs for brake fluid change or 1 yr inspections or oil changes? No. Is it older than pretty much anyone I know's car? Yes. Has it ever let me down? No. Do I do some tasks proactively that aren't called for on servicing? Yes. I don't do many miles and I take a sensible approach to what's needed myself.

Vrs - front disks & pads
Personally I've used https://www.brakesint.co.uk/ for my brake parts for years. Bremtech disks have never caused me an issue. I don't really see the point of drilled/grooved disks on a road car unless you're doing a lot of track days. Plain vented disks have more then enough ability, esp 340mm ones! I've tried EBC Blackstuff many years ago, they're oem performance and were fine, just worked. I'd heard too many stories about the others killing disks. I also tried Mintex Extremes which were great and didn't fade but squeeled like mad until they were warm and ultimately annoyed me. I can't even remember what I have on my cars now, I think it may be ferrodo and mintex standard quality road pads on the Honda and Mazda and no idea what's on the Octavia (whatever the garage fitted prior to me buying it) except it seems to stop the car pretty well! I have heard great things about the Ferodo DS2500 and that they're good on track without being a pain on the road. However they're ~ 3x the price of std pads.

Different wheels
I don't think you'll achieve a more sporty look without going bigger. If you want subtle, take a look at 17" Zenith or 18" Golus wheels. Otherwise you can always look at the 18" Gemini wheels although IMO on a non vRS car it may look a bit odd unless you just get them refurbished in plain silver.

FL 230 Petrol VRS test drive - what to look out for
You may struggle with much more than 40mpg on motorway journeys if you are heavy with the right foot and do 70mph. I've done a few long runs, 70mph most of the way and depending on how hilly it is, got between 42 and 46mpg. But that was making an effort to see what it did. I've also got over 50mpg at 50mph However the reality is, with anything resembling traffic, hills, the odd stretch when you take advantage of finally getting a clear road etc, you are likely to be high 30s. I only do 10miles to work, of which about 6 is motoway, albeit the M27 and I probably get 29-35 depending on the time of year. Well, I now get 10000000mpg as my commute involves me walking into my study and not starting the engine as I am WFH.

New clutch smell
Mine went at ~33k miles. It was suggested from JKM who did it, that the original owner didn't let it bed in properly. There were hot spots over it apparently.
-
New clutch smell
No, I had a new clutch in Feb and there was no smell. If it smells it's likely slipping.

VRS MK3 Exhuast
One thing in later life that bothers me about exhausts is there's no post welding surface treatment. The annealing colours you see around welds seems to be liked by people, but the reality is that it's actually oxidisation that stops the natural passivation of stainless steel and hugely increases corrosion. The inside is more difficult to do cheaply but they could at least wire brush the outside, that's just laziness. This comment applies to pretty much all of them, not this brand specifically.
