  1. And all murder to get to I guess esp as the car is a 4x4 version. Will have a think how to move forward. It's had a new steel 'shim' gasket and clamp from manifold to turbo about 3 years ago when this rose it's head. Did nothing.
  2. Thank you all for your replies, all helpful. I've been putting my head in the sand over this as while driving the burnt fumes do not invade, and when hot the stop/start stops fumes too. However, I did a quick cold start examination around the turbo area: Cold engine allows hand access to the area between the turbo itself and the bulkhead. There is a noticeable cold area that suggests a fine leak and air/fumes escaping under pressure. This 'draft' is coming from the bulkhead and not from the turbo/engine (!) What could be mounted around that area? Since new there has always been a light 'wheeze' sound from the turbo changing from 1st to 2nd, no other gears. The fuel consumption can be a carefully driven 60 mpg (4x4 remember) or a more normal/town driving of 46/49mpg. Towing the trailer and car = 32 mpg. The car is starting to get expensive (81K miles) and I wont spend hundreds on this issue but may be time to p/x and get something else, maybe another petrol engined 4x4 Superb.
  3. Thank you for your reply. I've have this car from new, and know nothing has been done like that on this engine, but the last 'specialist' did change the steel manifold/turbo gasket and clamp using VAG parts. I think this repair has failed again. hope to check around the area tomorrow now the freeze is over for a few days. You can stretch over the engine when just started and while things a cool and the mixture rich.
  4. Thank you for that, I'll give it an Italian Service asap!
  5. Thanks for your reply. I had this problem 3 years ago, the turbo/manifold gasket was changed and the special clamp too, and the AUDI specialist who did the job checked things over, but I was never convinced it was right. The car is a 4x4 Tour de France which cramps the space in and around the turbo so hard to check, but will follow it all up. Will try another garage, the AUDI guy can't be trusted. The turbo is all sealed as an engine bay by a thick rubber seal so I would hope any fumes would be kept away from the air intake and the filter would catch any fumes that might get by. If leaking, a soot should be present?
  6. 2014 Superb Estate, 80K miles, bought new by me, lovely car, 2 litre turbo Diesel However.. Recently, while standing still, engine running at tick over fumes will enter the cabin space very quickly from start-up. Cabin filter is the top level of filtration, does this with all windows closed, fan on '2 marks' A/C off. No blowing or unusual noised from engine bay anywhere esp around the turbo. Performance is strong as ever, tows well etc. Any experiences/ideas/solutions please?
  7. Just to close this miserable thread off. Contacted Wingmirror man about this incorrect part. 2 emails back saying sorry, but they can only resolve things by me removing the mirror off the car and sending it back, at my cost. They assured me that any part found to be faulty would be investigated and the issue resolved, even sending another (correct) part. They gave no timescale to this. This would mean the car would be off the road for possibly a month as it took that long to get the faulty one. Thier reply was 'Sorry, you have to send it back with a return code taken off their web site, post it back and wait.' I suggested they send me a correct one and I'll return the faulty one. No, you have to return it with a code ...etc. Sorry (again) In other words 'Get lost' Wonder how a garage would deal with this situation, wrong part and the customer car off the road? BEWARE!
  8. The motor units for the glass are different, new v Skoda, so can't transfer over the parts. Have resigned to living with the restricted view or to stick one of those small mirrors to the glass to widen the view. for towing, Can always use the mirror extension. Shame, I had hoped for the part to be correct rather than a compromise.
  9. I've just emailed them. I have the motor off the original mirror and it is only a few mins to remove the new one and swop for the old and see what happens. I can check the part numbers in that swop over. As I tow with the car, I really would like the widest view on the driver's side. The glass that came with the new unit is not the same, it does not have the line down it as the original Skoda one has, but both mirrors give the same field of view, so it must be down to the powered alignment motor moulding. Oddly, the two mirrors adjust when switched to 'Right'!
  10. Today, after nearly a month, my driver's side mirror arrived via Wingmirror Man. Nice item, so worth the wait. Fitted it this afternoon only to find the last step irritating. The mirror runs out of alignment range mechanically and electrically. I cant get the mirror to align fully to my 'view' when driving but it is 'OK'. I think the RHD side they sell is infact the passenger side of a LHD car and the alignment is not the same. Not sure, but will be giving feed-back!
  11. Pump and filter/oil change will be about 2 hours, though I think the task is one hour. The loom passes over the rear diff unit to the controller on the opposite side of the diff and is fiddly to do, but all DIY so easier in a garage/ramp facility. Filter change is very simple, 2 screws and catch the oil that comes out.
  12. Hello, the garage should run a diagnostics check to see if the pump is good or bad. Mine was dead, so needed changing over. The schedule for this does NT include the filter, most garages are not aware of this important change, so yours is doing it right. The oil used is very expensive and must be the right spec and fresh. After that, all will be good as mine has proven to be. I think the formal service interval is 20K or 40K, best check, but that should be filter and oil only.
  13. To cut a long story short, I need a whole new OS door mirror unit for my Tour de France Estate. I would like to fit a replacement from Wingmirrorman (£120), but suspect this is quite a job needed removal of the door card? I'm handy with tools, but thought I would ask if anything 'special' is needed before getting into it next week. Thanks , Graham.
  14. All done. Dealer fitted the new filter I bought and charged me 1/2 hour with oil topped up too. Tested it on a wet grassy area at the local Garden Center car park, 1/2 sec of front spin then no-spin traction, so all is well! What a saga!
  15. Update: Took the car to the local garage, not a 1 man band, but a local who serviced the car last time. Told them it was Gen 4 Haldex, so pump/oil/filter need changing. They only use 'factory' parts, so ordered a SEAT repair kit (!) Not filled with confidence I asked if the kit included a filter. No, or rather, don't know. Collected the car this afternoon. "all done" Did you change the filter? No, there is no filter to change. After 20 mins of persuasion and google searching, yes, there is indeed a filter. Can you get one? Yes, and will drop it and the car in next week to have it fitted. So, £471 later, job not completed. Filter on order by me so should get that & done early next week. They did a Diagnostic check, the pump is U/S They removed the pump and checked the resistance, "high" was the reply. Fitted the new one, "bloody awkward!" so i presume from this they have never done one before. Some things are never easy.
  16. Mine is booked in for next Tuesday. They will diagnostic first, but have the pump/filter/oil on order for the worst case!
  17. Well! Decided to simply change the lot, the Gen4 kit from Haldex Repairs is comprehensive and £250 delivered. Going to talk to the local garage who service the car to fit it offering to get the parts for them unless they can better the price. hope to get it sorted by Xmas!
  18. Plan is to find a dry day next week, jack the rear up and open the pump connector. If the resistance across the 2 terminals is over 8 ohms, then the pump is duff. If not (! as if...) then I'll drop the oil, remove the pump strainer if dirty, clean, replace, new filter and oil. If over 8 ohms, new pump, filter and oil from Haldex and the job should be good.
  19. Tried a few 'dump the clutch' starts today, wet slippy surfaces, junctions etc. All sound only front wheels spin, all have dash light on, all kill power. Found a report on a service sheet by an iffy AUDI specialist that in Aug last year @ 62.4K miles, the diagnostics report stated Intermittent fault on Haldex Clutch Pump # 011 Open Circuit. Action taken: clean filter and new oil.
  20. Excellent! Thank you for such a simple test idea, obvious, so will try it when wet, which I'm sure will be soon...
  21. Thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggest on a wet grassy slope about 3 years ago and felt convinced the 4x4 worked. Minimal wheel spin and the car accelerated smoothly up the (guess) ! in 5 slope. A few days ago the fronts span slightly out of a twist/slope tarmac road junction and I felt the rears were not doing anything. Some god weather for further testing coming up, so will try to get a better feel for it. Seems a Gen4 Haldex pump/oil kit is about £230 for the bits, maybe 1 hour for a garage to fit it. That should fix it. First I will try to get the diagnostics done. Will report back.
  22. Had my '14 superb from new, now 71K miles old. Works perfectly, but.... I am not sure the Haldex system is 'engaging'. There is nothing in the handbook about the 4x4 system, so I would like to see if this can be tested somehow. If I drop the clutch to force wheel spin on mud the traction control light shows and the brakes take over almost stalling the engine to kill wheel spin. I sense only the fronts are spinning. Can the diagnostics garages have detect if the pump is ok? I had the filter and oil changed about 2 years ago. The filter was choked. I've read that the choked filter can overload the pump and the pump fail. Anyone with real experience please? I'd like to understand more before taking it to my local garage who seem competent. Thanks in advance.
  23. Just to tie this one up: Spoke to the garage late yesterday and have agreed to have the oil change with filter, air filter (pollen done DIY last 'service', long story that) and fuel filter. It should have a brake fluid change now, 7 years from new (had one at 3 years and one at 2019) but the garage can test for water content and if needed it will get the change otherwise will wait for the dash to call the '70K' service up. Cost without the fluid, £200.13, Aug 10th at my request.
  24. Thank you for the detailed and quick reply! Last minor service was 18 August, so time creeping up faster.. I'll defy all things normal for a bloke and also read the Manual as I think the next big service, a Major would be at 70K
  25. My 2014 4x4 Tour du France Superb has just flown through today's MoT, and being a July 2014, some kind of service is needed as 12 months have passed. Last service was @ 62K and was a minor one, oil, filters and Haldex filter/oil change. Today and a year later the car has done 67.5K The dash usually calls for a service around every 9K which might be my normal annual mileage, but miles have dropped due to covid, but I'm not sure what to do now. Would it be prudent to have a simple oil/filter change and NOT and wait for the dash to advise me which could be Xmas or later? Service will be done by an independent. Hope someone can advise. Local Skoda dealer (where the car came from) are just as confused as me!
