  1. Many thanks for your reply. Visually the element looks ok. The switch is on a separate fuse No 7 I think, probably operating a relay? So the next step is I will have to check the fuse. If ok its off to the dealers.
  2. Hi, on my 1.5tsi SEL YM2020 my rear heated screen is not working and I dont think I have ever tried it before ( strangely). The Amber light on the switch works so I'm suspecting the main fuse No 53? . Before I drop the glovebox does anyone know the fuse size please.
  3. Chipsaway did a perfect repair for me on a bumper, rubbed along a brick wall. As stated the skill of each franchise operator will vary but they guarantee the repair and on my car it was still perfect after 3 years.
  4. As a follow up, my Skoda Dealer, Trust in Stourbridge answered my question " is the A/C service at 2 years, advisory or mandatory?" Advisory they stated and went on to try and explain loss of gas etc. I therefore declined the service. My car at this point is showing 5965 miles in 23 months from new. Right decision or wrong, time will tell. Overall I am very happy with the vehicle and it has been faultless apart from the original fuel flap issue which was quickly resolved. Just changed the 2 keyfob batteries for Duracel 2025s and I also did this 12months ago.
  5. Thanks to Ken and AG Falcon for their comments. I have no issue with getting the A/C serviced every 2 years if this is a Skoda requirement. I guess the only way forward for me is to ask my dealer the cost and exactly what work they intend to do. I trust dealers not a lot. Another brand dealer charges £49 for gas recovery and refill and additional £20 for anti bacterial spray and clean out. I will post the outcome in a week or two when I book the car in for its main service. Surrey John. I have heard and read dealers state that A/C systems "permeate " 10 to 15% of gas a year into the atmosphere and if this was the case no wonder we have global warming. The statement is not true, they are high pressure, sealed systems and if they are short of gas then the connectors / seals etc are faulty or some damage has occurred. I have split systems at home without loss of gas in 10 years. I'm on your side and it's just a money spinner. However if not servicing the a/c at 2 years causes problems with my warranty then I will have it done. Soussi agrees Thanks to all
  6. Hi all, has anyone had a recent cost for an A/C service on a 1.5 tsi Karoq. My car is due its second service end of October and the dealer has just contacted me by email saying the A/C service is also due. The sales blurb says that all systems loose gas ( refrigerant) over time but I don't believe this to be true. So what exactly does this service entail? Any help here would be appreciated.
  7. Back on the mpg topic, I made my first long journey in the karoq 1.5 SEL tsi dsg from the West Midlands to Glasgow then to Prestwick and back to Glasgow 336 miles brim to brim 46.7mpg. The M6 part of the journey was horrific, losing 90 minutes in standing, and stop/start traffic due to accidents so thanks Skoda for the stop/start and auto hold. Because of this, its difficult to say if it was a true test of mpg. On the return from Glasgow, exactly 300 miles and the M6 shut between J22 and J23 both ways I had to divert onto the M61 then crawl around the Manchester ring road, more stop/start but on completion the trip is showing 49.7mpg so probably a brim to brim would be around 46/47 mpg again. The car has not yet done 3000 miles but overall I'm reasonably happy with the fuel economy. I did find it difficult to hold the car at a steady speed 70mpg. It would quickly vary + or -- 5mph not sure why but with 70mph being about 2000rpm I noted on the motorway, the car was happier at 2100 / 2150 rpm rather than below 2000 rpm. In September I am making the run to Glasgow in a BMW X1 S20i dsg and it will be interesting to see how economy compares. I was not keen on the Karoqs "eco" mode. As soon as it switched in the car would slow too quickly, not coasting far. The BMW disconnects the gearbox from the engine and can coast quite some distance. We shall see what happens.
  8. I'm sure its the drivers ability to anticipate the traffic, terrain, road and weather conditions better than the CC which just stays at constant speed. However this may change as car intelligence improves as it ķnows from GPS, where you are and can therefore anticipate gradients etc.. I find when using CC in moderate or heavy traffic I'm constantly slowing the car down then "resuming" so I'm using hand input control on the steering wheel when I could just as easily use my foot on the accelerator and not use CC.
  9. Regarding cruise control, over a number of different BMWs, all 2ltr automatic deisels, I always got better fuel consumption driving manually. Not a great fan of CC.
  10. Shy, after 9 months my 1.5 tsi dsg sel has done just over 2000 miles ( dont ask) and has never been on a decent journey. However in a couple of weeks it will be going up the M6 to Glasgow and back around 600 miles. I will be interested in its mpg, brim to brim because its only just loosened up. I will report back but I am hoping for around 50mpg.
  11. Reading various posts over 6 months I came to the conclusion that the build quality and tolerance in manufacturing of these 1.5 engines produces a whole range different experiences for the owners. In my first post I said I had not owned a Skoda before, would it prove to be a mistake? I have so far not had any problems at all but it will be my last Skoda / VAG for sure.
  12. Thats a good result. I travel 280miles to my daughters, one way, and if I could get this average from the petrol Karoq, and factoring in the difference between petrol and diesel cost then it would be almost even between using the Karoq or the 2ltr bmw diesel. That suprises me.
  13. Apprentice you have my sympathy both with fuel prices and visitors. My wifes family live in rural Wales and we often visit and stay but we cannot for 3 reasons. The government has told us not to, the locals don't want us there and selfishly its 40 miles to the nearest hospital. I will just have to wait.
  14. Fuel economy has many variables, my son took my 1.5tsi dsg with 1700 miles on the clock, on a 19 mile cross country trip, no main roads and of course little traffic at the moment, travelling to work with the idea of charging up the battery and then the return journey. His return trip recorded 43.2 mpg in standard mode. I have recorded 47+ for this same trip in colder conditions in eco mode with more traffic about. Style of driving and speed are the 2 main factors on this journey. My 2.0d 5 series bmw auto on a long run up the motorway produces its best fuel economy at 80mph around 2000 rpm but that gearing is not very helpful in a 70mph climate. I've just paid £1.087/ltr for diesel which is great but of no use at all as I can't use the car for at least another 3 weeks.
  15. Back to fuel consumption, my 4 month old 1.5 tsi dsg, sel has only done 1200 miles and i have noticed a few people here saying eco mode makes little or no difference to mpg. The car is my wifes and I dont drive it much or far. Today I drove to work, 'A' roads though hilly and poor quality, narrow in places and an 18 mile journey. On the way there in standard mode it did 42.4mpg according to the trip and in eco mode on the way back it showed 47.6mpg. Now although they may not be true values, the difference suprised me. I'm used to eco driving, my previous Outlander PHEV would drop from 300v to 200v in eco and I drove in this mode all the time to conserve battery energy. The car had recently been on a 300 mile return journey into Wales and came back feeling more 'run in'. Im pleased with the 47.6 mpg at this early stage. My BMW 520d auto returns 51 mpg for the same journey so looking at fuel costs the petrol Karoq is probably the winner.
  16. All good now with the fuel flap, it opens with reasonable pressure provided it is applied in the correct spot, directly on the locking point. Dealer says they have changed the mechanism but not the flap. The new, looks dimensionally the same as the old so not sure what has changed in the design. The dealer service department kept me informed of progress, did it as agreed and on time so that was a suprise for me.
  17. My 2 month old karoq booked in on the 22.01.2020 , the dealer knows the problem and is replacing the locking mechanism but retaining the door flap. This morning I opened the flap at home with 5 or 6 thumps with my closed hand before driving to the garage to fill up. We will see if they can cure the problem. Why Skoda are sending out MY20 cars with this known problem is beyond me.
  18. Yes Gmac983, VAG said they need to compete against Kia, Dacia and Hyundai in Eastern Europe and adjust their products and specs for Skoda accordingly. What will happen here and now with Brexit remains to be seen.
  19. Back to the original post, did not the CEO of VAG say that they were going to take Skoda down market, strip off the goodies so that they could sell more basic cars into Eastern Europe? You then add on to get the spec you want. He also indicated that Volkswagen brand would stay as they are and Seat would move into a more premium position. This stance of Skoda down market is not good news for us. So if you want a basic Kamiq and you live in Eastern Europe thats ok. If you live in the west, hard luck.
  20. I have park assist, but not used it yet. My understanding is that it lines itself up with the car in front and the one behind, not the kerb. So if they are touching the kerb and damaging their wheels then so might you. I will let you know when I have tried it.
  21. Bridgestones on my neighbour's S3 Audi, and my beema no problems at all with wheelspin. My brother in laws golf gtd dsg spun the wheels in 2nd on Yokohamas today. Seems to me its not the tyres, more so the Karoq power output and gearing in first.
  22. When it rains no matter how hard, the car is OK and dry. However when cleaning the car, if I throw a bucket of rinse water over the roof, towards the rear, about an hour later I get around 4 little drips of water into the boot tray along a straight line. I have determined that water can creep over the tailgate seal at the top in the area between the 2 sets of hinges. The water enters the gutter, splashes onto the hinges and the actual door inner surface and these water droplets are sitting directly above the pinch point between seal and tailgate. These drips then fall onto this joint line and work through the seal. Its minimal now but could deteriorate over time. I think the set pins holding the hinges sit in slotted holes and I guess the allows adjustment of the tailgate fit. I have noted this to the dealer who is willing to take the car in for a look see and I will in due course report back on this item. Has anyone else had this problem.
  23. Thanks for the 7 seas. I've now found the little degree symbol, °°°°°. Your first comments are exactly what is required to help explain this high air temperature reading.
  24. Hi Berisford, my comment was intended to motivate others to join the discussion, because i am interested in this subject from an engineering point of view. Please see I did not doubt your reading but would be surprised if they had designed a vent system with such a high off temperature. Your additional input / readings would be welcome.
