  1. I’ve not got kit to test tbh.
  2. Went to start the car today and it was odd. I opened the boot and the alarm went off (I had key). Got in hit start and the dash lights came on and flickered and the engine didn't even turn over. I don't do many miles at all now and the subaru has a quite a significant draw on the battery so the thought that the battery had drained didn't seem that odd (been through learning process that the power tailgate goes funky with a slight voltage drop). I have a booster so I hooked that up and the car started first time. I'm still thinking flat battery. Drive the car into the garage and hook up the charger. It has a test mode and I ran that first....battery 77%. Let it charge for 10 min the got in a tried again, car started no problem. Drove to the tip (with booster) and car started again no problem leaving that. Got home, washed cars and went to put Subaru back in the garage. Again started no problem. Hooked up the charger again and this time the test said 66%. I've left the car on the charger now (I usually do bth due to lack of use). I'm wondering if the battery might be on the way out. It's 5yr old. I know the tests can be misleading with chargers showing a dud battery as good.
  3. Ooh missed this. Big Linux fan here, started using Slackware and YellowDog back in the early 2000s. Built a free proxy web filter for a school I worked at using Squid and DansGuardian. My desktop went EoL for W11 with the TCM2 issue and tbh I dislike and distrust W11 a lot so rather than throwing some perfecty usable kit away (Ryzen 7 processor, 32Gb ram and 2Tb SSD) I have switched it to Lunux. I started using PoP!OS as this was suppsoed to be the most compatible with NVidia kit out the box. I liked the interface a lot but it did have a lot of issues that were a PITA to fix most notably the NVidia drivers, which were supposed to be the OSs MO. Gave up after a while and went easy mode by installing Mint. TBH nearly 100% problem free. Gaming still a bit of a hit or a miss and I think my particular gfx card (and old 1060) might not be the most compatible. but for everything else it's solid. My laptop is runing W11 but when that finishes it will go to Linux as well. I lucked out and pumped the RAM in it before the prices started to rise. Even more as I bought a thick ol' workstation style Lenovo and it's had free slots for more memory and an MM2 1Tb SSD. If you're stuck with Linux or having issues it's one of the things that AI is very good at helping you with. It's amusing that you can get Copilot to help you build a Linux system to get you away from it.
  4. The government is very good at making loud noises abut speeding, not so good at enforcement. Easy to get a camera on a motorway where (in normal/good conditions) speeding presents little harm. try to get speed enforement in an urban area and it's all too expensive or too hard, lots of hand wringing no action. We've had dealths now on our 40mph road, proven eveidence of speeding at up to 263%of the limit (105 in a 40), and nothing gets done other than a visit from hi vis plod once every 4 months and they are required to make themselves obvious so only the terminally stupid get caught.
  5. Our ID3 went to the dealer and they found nothing in the codes in the car, so as far as they could tell there was nothing wrong. There is no deeper logging on the car which you might (I did) expect on a car that is so heavily filled wth IT kit. What they did tell me (dealer was good actually not knocking them) was that is was a VW technical bulletin. That bulleting basically says the car is incompatible with smart charging. Their solution was to charge it at an on demand charging station as that doesn't rely on the car having to wake up. That this is 5-10x as expensive wasn't really considered in the 'solution'. However, they did do a software update while the car was in and lo' it is much less of an issue. It's only failed a couple of times and hasn't left us unable to use the car so far. You might find that software update has largely fixed it. It still refuses to release the cable regularly (3x unlock clicks fixes but a faff), the app still doesn't tell me the battery capacity of the car. I can guess from the Ohme app now how much charge the car has taken but I have to catch it either side of midnight or it resets.
  6. Yep mentioned that one above, not sure we hate it £2k
  7. She normally does or did bundle it into the car as it's that or leave it lying in the drive. Admittedly now she's p2ssed off with it enough she does leave it lying on the ground in the drive.
  8. This was the thing I originally was thinking of but couldn't find. Still £300 for a restractable washing line. https://www.ecowizard.co.uk/electric-vehicle-charger-accessories/cable-up-cable-management/
  9. they do exist but look expensive https://wepoweryourcar.com/about/chargearm/
  10. PIR just makes it easier for the scumbags to work. Non-drying security paint would prbably work better.
  11. she still needs to wind up the cable and get her hands wet/dirty, it would be easier to store. I think some form of extention arm is the thing. I had thought about it before and wondered if i could get the local engineering firm/fabricators to do something.
  12. And this is fugly but might do the trick for less. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Barkan-Protective-Charging-Weatherproof-Retractor/dp/B0DTV6QGNR?th=1
  13. Tihs would be the thing but not for £1400 https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/5095360-8m-7-4kw-type-2-spring-return-ev-cable-reel-ip44
  14. We need about 5m of cable so not sure a curly one would work. I've seen support wires but they were £300 or something rediculous. Might just be a hose hanger and a padlock that is the thing to do it.
  15. SWMBO's biggest bugbear with the EV is the cable. We have to charge outside due to the mandated location of he charging point. She hates dealing with a cable that is cold, wet, often dirty and needs to be rolled up and put in the car every time (seperate cable and charger). anyone know of any clever cable management ideas?
  16. Not quite VW want you to charge at fixed times, no on demand smart charging. No grid aware charging. Which is the whole point of low EV tariffs to let you use electricity when it’s in surplus wherever that is. Too complex for VW. I’ll be having a word with Octopus though since they’ve specifically leased me a car incompatible with the service they supply and the whole basis on which the car was leased .
  17. So they called, as expected no faults recorded nothing in the OBD, charged ok on their point. Only thing was a tech bulletin from VW that basically said the car doesn’t work on smart charging tariffs so it should be charged on more expensive electricity. And it’s not their fault it’s the power company, or the charger, or the moon, but not VW.
  18. Typically it worked fine last night. But it did update again yesterday. Still not talkng to the app on the phone so we need to go out to the car to see what the charge level is. the Ohme app guesses the taken charge % based on how much power the car has taken and the known battery capacity. So we don't get "Car 70% charged" we get "topped up by 7%" and nothing from the VW app. I made the joke that they needed an IT tech not a mecahnic, they didn't laugh and said it was true. If I could get the logs from the car I could look myself but it's all hidden.
  19. Aye into dealer, not away to VW skunkworks. Basically we were primed to not get any answer. Unless it has logged a fault they don't know how they work. Switch it off and on again.
  20. ID3 into VW for 'investigation'. Startling how disparaging the staff were towards VW. Basically they all hated their cars. Hated the tech (EU enforced but works poorly), hated the software, hated the apps, hated working on them. Universal comment (I agree with) "We just want something simple that works, too much tech now".
  21. The name "Jaguar" I guarantee will continue. Just like MG does, Lotus, and any number of motoring IPs But "Jag" as we know it? Probably not. They went down some odd path with that last promotion. A pink car aimed at a demographic that doesn't buy Jags, which makes some sense if you're trying to reach a new market. Except they aimed everything at that demographic and they seemed to miss that the people they were marketing at don't buy cars much and couldn't afford a Jag anyway. what is "Jag", pipe slippers and V8s? What use is a rep for V8s in a world of EVs? Performance is pretty meaningless now. All EVs are fast really. Some are really fast. But an electric motor is an electric motor. You've lost all the sparkle around superchargers, turbos, multipoint injection. I've not seem nay attempts to jazz up electric motors with the same technowhizzery. I guess a motor is magnets and coils. And having a better majnet or a better coil is just not interesting outside of the electrical engineering and physics fraternity. I did wonder if it was a "no such thing as bad publicity" stunt, it certainly got people talking about Jag although they sounded more like eulogies. .
  22. Ditto booked into dealer with mine for the 17th. They didn;t question anythign just said "needs to come in for 'investigation'. The VW software also lacks charging time options now so it's not just in Aus. In the VW the AI voice 'assistant' is IDA, similarly useless. In fact less than useless as it gets in the way of using the Apple Siri. One thing to add, is your charging point up to date with its software. Ditto your energy supplier. We had a previosu isues where the energy supplier had push out an update to their app which screwed things up as well and we had to get them to roll that back.
  23. Not sure, our ID3 regularly has issues. I need to speak with dealer soon. Our issue is that the car can be plugged in, charge port = light green, it will accept charge but then if left it will randomly stop. Could be after 10min could be 10hr. Red light on charge port, but no errors anywhere. It was working initially then VW pushed out an app update and then it started crapping out. My car no longer gives a battery reading to the app butis connected because I can lock/unlock etc. I've not reset the ICE on the car yet as I can't be bothered with the painful setup again. The sleeping issue is well reported on VWs, so with smart chargers it relies on delivering cheap power based on network demand which can be at any time. Apparently VW cars go to sleep and won't wake up to accept charge. I've also read about an unofficial recall on yellow power charging cables. But I've no details on that. The port also seems to be sensitive to not being really firmly pushed in. So don't be tempted to give it a wiggle after you plug it in. I've been advise to make sure all the apps have the same setting so if you have a charge time or % make sure everything has the same values. We have disconnected the car from the charger (unpaired software), the car has no timer set only a percentage. The charger is set to deliver as much charge as a car will take. It still fails pretty much every day. We've resorted to parking the car so we can see the charging light. running out to reinsert the cable resets the issue. In short VW software = garbage. I'll try to update if I ever learn anything useful.
  24. So with the apps unpaired the car seems to be taking charge when offered by the charger. Although now the VW app no longer shows any % for the car at all. So I think the finger of suspicion is firmly pointed at VW for a botched update since all these issues really started after a VW app update a few days ago. Seems like the one thing that could kill the EV market properly is software. It simply seems like the suppliers are immature in their development of software. This might actually be an area where Tesla can lead since they seemd to be a software company first. The Gov is also doing it's best to kill the market as well. At 3ppm running an electric car is still financially benefitical as long as the electricity is cheap. If we were paying the standard rate for electricity to charge the car it would be cheaper to drive a diesel.
  25. Not sure what to do, charging failed again last night. Car charged a bit In the evening then said session ended at 19:45. Ohme says the car is at 90% which is the target but the car says it only has 45%. No errors and no charge log to view. [edit] went and checked the car itself, it said “Cannot connect” . After opening the car the red light on the charging port came on. I unplugged and replugged the cable and it turned green and started to attempt charge. Ohme app back to showing the car with 0% so they are not talking [edit 2] I've unpaired the car form Ohme. All it knows now is 'something' is plugged in it can charge. So back to relying on the car accepting charge I hope.
