Jacking up the Yeti
So from the two photos I've posted, one with the triangle and one without, can anyone explain why the triangle is missing from one of the cars? Did Skoda stop including the mark?

I feel for you, can't be nice at all. Hopefully it will get resolved, but then will be the question of whether you want something in the way of compensation for the hassle, trouble and expense you've gone through, but would you even want an offer of free serving from a dealer you don't trust? But first things first.

The Australians can be forgiven for getting it upside down

Jacking up the Yeti
Heres where the confusion started for me. The photo with the incorrectly placed masking tape shows the triangle to the right.. Whereas a photo from this thread doesn't have the triangle at all. I don't think anyone can be to blame for not knowing where they are, especially if you can't see the jacking point until you are underneath the car, and to do that it has to be jacked up. However I now know that the correct place is to the right of the drain hole, even if the triangle isn't there. But I'm not sure if they are the front or rear jacking points?

Jacking up the Yeti
I think the typical car owner is one who doesn't put any thought to things like 'what would I do if I got a flat tyre' doesn't give things like jacking points any consideration at all. They would probably phone someone else for help, or phone their recovery service. The problem then comes when that person who turns up to help them wrongly assumes where the jacking points are. And from what I've read on the Yeti it would be only natural to jack up where you can feel the built up area of the cill, and I think is what I would have done, even after reading the manual and not being able to find the triangles (if they are indeed mentioned). But I think the fact that someone joins a car specific forum suggests they aren't the typical car owner and they take some interest in how things should be done. So whilst folk like me get criticised for asking about the jacking points, surely thats better than blind ignorance leading to future costly mistakes? I have no mechanical knowledge at all, but when I get a new car I like to make the effort to know my way around it, such as where are the jacking points, where is the towing eye stored, how is it fitted etc. Knowing these things in advance can save an awful lot of pain when something happens, especially when you break down on a freezing cold rainy night and then have to start thinking about those things.

From his opening post he drives a 2014 Yeti Outdoor SE 2.0. Did they only make the 2.0L in a diesel?

Cracked Haldex Unit
But from what you put in your opening post, you have had your car routinely serviced by the Skoda dealer. Are they trying to say you have had it serviced outside of the Skoda network?

Haldex service on Yeti
Brilliant, thank you

By the way, is there a service schedule guide anywhere on this forum? I've looked on the Yeti Guides but can't see one.

Haldex service on Yeti
Nice one, thanks. I'll call them tomorrow and ask if they can email the service history to me. I've only put a small deposit down, balance to pay on collection, so I don't know if they will send it as I haven't effectively bought the car yet, but I will ask.

You are correct, it's not listed.

Haldex service on Yeti
Hadn't though of that, I shall try and find out if it has been done. Although its supposed to have had FMDSH, If you were picking up my 3 year old Yeti with 35k miles, what would you like to ensure had been done, or to get done? Haldex oil & clean? DSG oil? Brake fluid? Engine oil? I'd probably prefer the Skoda dealer to carry out any servicing (instead of local indie) incase of any issues under warranty, but seeing as they don't usually acknowledge the gauze being cleaned....

Haldex service on Yeti
Could you expand on that last bit please? Which plugs could they remove by mistake , and what could realistically happen If they do?

Haldex service on Yeti
Thanks, I know it will come with 12 months Skodas 'approved used car warranty', but I expect they will try to wriggle out of any claim, just like any other dealer. I think they invite yo to extend the warranty just before it runs out. It also comes with breakdown cover (which I already have) and 5 days insurance so I don't need to get cover myself straight away, but I think I'd rather have my own cover for peace of mind. This may sound strange, but at nearly 50yrs old this is the first tome I've eve bought a car from a dealer, I've always gone private.

Haldex service on Yeti
I'm picking up my Yeti from the Skoda dealer at the end of the month. It's a 2017 Yeti 2.0L 4x4 DSG with 35k miles. Whilst they say it's had all its services done, as well as the Haldex service, they couldn't confirm if the gauze was checked. Not wanting to take any chances I'll be getting it booked in at the indie garage within a few days of picking it up for the Haldex service and gauze clean, and the DSG oil changed. Might even get them to do an engine oil change whilst they have it. I'd rather start off my ownership knowing that everything has been done.

Haldex service on Yeti
Well I'm quite surprised by the different responses from the four local indie VAG specialists I've contacted asking about the Haldex service on the Yeti.. Garage 1 - says it doesn't need doing until 40k miles and they charge about £100 for the oil change and sieve clean. Garage 2 - acknowledges the shorter 30k mile period, but charges £220+vat as instead of cleaning the sieve they replace the unit (this was a price off the top of his head and she's finding out the exact price for me) Garage 3 - had to go and ask someone and then said they would have to remove and have a look at the pump and see whats involved in cleaning it, before they can tell me a price Just as I was loosing the will to live I went to the remaining specialist in my town... Garage 4 - the bloke stopped me halfway through asking and said "You need the Haldex oil changing and gauze cleaning, we can do that. We'll also gove your Yeti a once over while tits still under their used car warranty" So I'll be going with garage 4

Maybe thats why I'm discussing jacking points on a Sunday.

Jacking up the Yeti
So am I not allowed to ask questions until I get my Yeti? I only know about the triangles and their location from reading this and other threads, if I hadn't joined this forum I might not have known and could have misplaced the jack by assuming the built up crease is the correct position. If the subject annoys you that much why read the thread?

Jacking up the Yeti
Well if it hasn't I'll be looking at getting one. Going back to look at it again soon, so I'll check. Do the models without spare wheels still have the wheel well to store one, or do they have the adjustable floor instead?
-
Jacking up the Yeti
Exactly, especially at the roadside on a freezing cold and dark rainy winter night you do need to know exactly where they are.
-
Jacking up the Yeti
Well I can't look as I don't get my Yeti until 30th October, which makes looking a bit difficult for me at the moment.

Cracked Haldex Unit
Understood. I made the assumption of transmission wind up as I have a LR Defender that shouldn't be towed by front end lift. Whenever It's had to be taken anywhere I've had it recovered onto the back of the recovery truck.

Jacking up the Yeti
Thanks, i'm certainly going to get the dealer to show me underneath the vehicle (if they are allowed to?) when I collect it later this month. Will give me a chance to give the underneath a once over, and identify the jacking point triangles.
-
Cracked Haldex Unit
Should the 4x4 Yetis not be towed? Or should they just not have a front end lift tow where only the rear wheels are on the ground? Would this lead to transmission wind up?

Jacking up the Yeti
So he needed to move the markings over to the right, so the triangle would be central to the jack? Too late to edit that post now to remove the measurement, if they are wrong then i don't really want anyone to think they are correct and copy them. By the way, on non sunroof models are those drain holes still there? If so what area of the car do they drain collected water from?
