  1. yes I know, but we seldom need winter tyres in the UK. A few days of snow and it’s all over, winters tend to be mild of late and my Efficient Grips would have gripped perfectly fine all through last winter. But it’s not all about the tyres, I like the idea of having another set of wheels for winter as road salt etc can be harsh to nice alloys, so I bought a second set of alloys but didn’t want the hassle and cost of having to take my car to a tyre shop to transfer my tyres over twice each year. So I found a cheap set of Spectrum alloys which then needed clodding with rubber, didn’t see that I needed winter tyres so went with 4 seasons. I foresee in the future that I may have both sets running with all season tyres, using my nice alloys for summer and my other set for winter.
  2. Because my original Efficient Grip tyres still have really good tread left on them, so I balance the wear over the year by swapping the wheels over.Plus the spare set of alloys I bought are slightly smaller than my original Origami alloys (which are in perfect condition) and are slightly scuffed, so I use those over winter with the 4 Seasons fitted. So now I just swap the wheels over myself in Spring and winter so that I still get full use of the Efficient Grips tread during the summer. The other option would have been to sell my Efficient Grips for little money and just fit the 4 Season tyres, but I wanted to keep them and make use of their tread, and balance the wear from both sets of tyres. When the Efficient Grip tyres are due for replacement I will probably get another set of 4 Season tyres fitted instead, and either sell the spare alloys for what I paid for them, or keep them and carry on using them as my winter wheels so I can keep my Origami wheels looking nice.
  3. The set of alloys that came with my Yeti when I bought it have Goodyear Efficient Grip, and I bought a spare set of alloys last year for winter use and had them fitted with Goodyear Vector 4 season tyres. I swap the wheels cover myself twice a year, that way I know the correct jacking points are used on my car. No issues with either set of tyres.
  4. He's need one that faces sideways through the front passenger window. Thats got to be annoying though, someone throwing coins at your car and causing damage. I would hope if that happened to me that I didn't find where they lived and my dogs poop didn't find its way under the drivers door handle.
  5. It does hinge on having the reg number, and preferably video evidence. A reg number only leads to the registered keeper, who could say it wasn't me and all my mates have access to my car to use at anytime, so must have been one of them. There's no way to disprove that without video footage. The registered keeper only has to disclose who was driving for certain offences committed under the Road Traffic Act 1988.
  6. The police might not have even recorded it as a crime if they don’t believe the circumstances presented to them. Even so, there would be an excess payment required to settle any insurance claim regardless of what happened.
  7. Not as easy to identify the offender as you might think. Did you get their reg number? Are there independent witnesses that have the reg number? Dashcam footage? Did the driver or passenger throw the coins? Even with the reg number it only leads to the registered keeper who might not have been the driver, and if not, they don’t have to say who was driving or who the passenger was if they threw them. Regardless, you or your insurers will have to foot the bill for replacement windscreen. Doubtful any offender would be made to pay. Even if they admit the damage to police, they might just get a verbal caution, or if a court is involved you might get awarded compensation but this could be a trivial amount. But doesn’t change the fact a windscreen needs purchasing first. My excess for the two windscreens I’ve had this year was £115 each time.
  8. You appear to be correct, my renewal has just come through and its the same price as last year (unless the premium would have been cheaper had I not claimed for two windscreens, but I'll never know?)
  9. I hope you are correct.
  10. Fair enough, but needed doing especially as winter is coming.
  11. This was the case. I booked a replacement screen via my insurers website and paid the excess, and the new screen was fitted a few days ago. Now to see how much my premium has increased when it comes to renewal next month!!
  12. Only just got around to repairing this today, as its going for its MOT this afternoon and wasn't sure if the rear wash was part of the MOT? I had lost the spray nozzle and feared it had snapped off leaving the tube inside which could have been difficult to get out, thankfully that wasn't the case and the new nozzle popped straight in. It appears the cover cap stops the nozzle from being forced out when spraying the screen. Hook the hinged part of the cover on first then press back into place..
  13. Three months after getting my cracked windscreen replaced via my insurance, today a car overtook me and kicked up a stone that has put a 6” crack in the bottom corner. Not sure if my insurers will pay out a second time during the same policy, or how it will affect my renewal premium?
  14. This has gone from bad to worse... When refitting the plastic cover it initially wouldn't go back on, then it clicked into place but I heard a snap sound, and the wiper jet nozzle has broken off. Is this something. I can fix myself? From Kennys diagram above it looks like a new nozzle might just push back in? Some of the plastic covers I've seen on Ebay come with the nozzle, but Im sure I saw a spring on mine...
  15. The rear wiper spray nozzle had also partly come off, held by a spring, but it seems to have reseated itself now.
  16. Thanks. The hinge tabs are still there, so I'll have another go at fitting, couldn't get it to click into place when I tried. Think I've found replacement for £7 on Ebay should I require one.
  17. Anyone know the part number for this please? I caught the plastic cover on my rear wiper yesterday and knocked it off. It doesn't fit back on as a piece of it has broken off, think I need a new one. Any idea what the part is called please, or where to get one? Thanks 2017 Yeti 2.OL 4x4
  18. The standard screen was priced at £600 with £115 excess to pay, but when I asked if I could have a genuine screen my insurers said I would need to contribute over £400.
  19. Had my windscreen replaced today via my insurance and Autoglass, they subbed the job out to a local firm RM Autoglaze. Made the guy cups of coffee as he worked. £115 excess to pay, hope it doesn't increase my premium too much upon renewal. Had a quick panic after he left as I couldn't see the heated screen elements in the glass, but thankfully they seem to be there. Roll on winter.
  20. Got mine booked in for replacement with Autoglass, then I asked how much extra for a Skoda OEM screen, they said they would have to ask my insurers but that would mean cancelling my appointment, which I agreed to. My insurers refused the upgrade, so I settles for the Autoglass standard screen (heated). But now they does have any appointments until after July. They must be busy or short staffed, so now I have to drive with a cracked screen fo at least 6 weeks.
  21. Autoglass are quoting over £600 for replacement windscreen, but £115 via my insurance due to my policy excess. Those who upgraded to original Skoda glass, did you just phone them and arrange that?
  22. My heated screen now has an 8" crack from the bottom edge running upwards. I'll most likely go through my insurance but what kind of cost is it if I choose to pay myself?
  23. Thanks for the review. Having sold a few unwanted items of Facebook I'm thinking of using the cash for replacing my cheap non brand bars with the Thule Evo 127's
  24. I'm going to pretend that I already knew (but clearly I didn't)
  25. It's sad isn't it. I know of a few people who it's happened to on numerous occasions, it can be expensive to replace them. The last person I know of that had it done recently was a nurse who has to park on the street as the hospital doesn't have staff parking, she returned to her car at the end of her shift to discover it sounded horrendously noisy when starting the engine. That was the second time it had happened to her. What's also sad is that as more people learn of the problem, less people will be wanting to buy these cars second hand, making it difficult for people like the nurse to sell their car, perhaps with it's value dropping also?
