Stop Start issues

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I've had my 2015 Octavia for a week now, and have noticed that it doesn't like its first start of the day, engine turns over for a few additional seconds, that feels like a lifetime lol.

Other thing that is bugging me is the stop start system. On short journeys it isn't kicking in, which I expect is fair enough given that there isn'tuch time to get the car warmed up etc, but the other was on Sunday. Motorway was jammed and at crawling pace. 3 times the stop start cut the engine and wouldn't restart. It would tick over a couple of times then just stop. Had it in Economy but this shouldn't have been happening, should it?.

My thinking is the battery is humped.Either that or the starter motor.

Anyone else experienced anything.

Additionally, I had an error flash up on my screen this mornijg however by the time the initial panic went and I found where the noise came from, the message was disappearing.

The only bit I fought from it was 'workshop'

We need a scan.....find your nearest VCDS person and post up the errors....we might be able to assist with some more info.

If it's a manual this may help.

If it's not a manual though, It might be related to a known gear selector switch.  Error: workshop! Leave vehicle only when selector lever is in position P.

Yeah it's a DSG so after a bit of googling I've found the issue.

Car only a week in my possession, I can see the dealer dragging their heals over this.

Knowing that from the word go would have taken me straight to the starter inhibit switch. Best suggestion for now would be to try and start the engine with the selector in N and with it in P.

So my pal came round today with his wee carista device and we've got the following codes. The 16401 is incorrect as on VCDS this reads as a tyre pressure monitor.

Multiple faults inc stop/start on a car that's been stood around at a dealer for a while - my first port of call would be a new battery. If you have just bought it I'd say it's the selling dealers problem.

Yeah, that was my first thought, that or the starter motor. More than likely being the battery. Had to get them to replace the battery in a few cars in the past.

Booked in for Tuesday for that, the dsg issue and the MOT that they said they would have done before I bought the car.

Don't forget you have rights - especially in the first 30 days:-

Saying that a failing battery on a car that's been sat around in the dealer system for a while is common- When my son got his 2016 Octavia at just over 3 years old it was bonging low battery even after a drive. We insisted on a new battery. It's been perfect since. PS if stop start it will be EFB or AGM and will need coding to the car.

carista scanning not reliable at all.  i have carista for coding, but to read errors  vcds.    get voltmeter to inspect battery instead trowing money for new one. maybe needs to be recharged 24h in your house with decent charger.

Just saying , money dont grow on trees .

My 2015 1.4TSi Octavia (bought August 2020)had been sat around at the dealers for at least 6months and prior to that it had been hardly driven for a year. The stop start after about a month started playing up and I thought that I would put a new battery on as it still had the 5 year old original one on it. New battery fitted- I looked on this forum and it was recommended to fit a bigger AH so I did. Stop start works perfect now ever since 👍Though I am not a fan of when engine restarts you have to give it time (as its not quite the same as pulling away with an engine that was already running)- this is common apparently on most stop start systems- even my friends new Mercedes C Class isnt smooth!

Within 6 years you can take a car back to a dealer now- within 6 months if you had a fault and they fail to fix it first time you are entitled to a refund Consumer Rights Act 2015 - I have just exercised this Right on my daughters 2016 Ford Fiesta automatic which dealer has failed to fix or even properly diagnose the faulty gearbox! Fully refunded and now the stress of finding another car from a different dealer🤔 I should have gone back with my Skoda about the battery but I didnt know about this Consumer Rights then plus I needed the car for work so no time to faff about taking it to a dealer and borrowing another car etc!
