  1. Thanks for the advice guys, had another look at it today with my Dad. He spotted that sparks were coming from one of the connections when I cranked it over. We then discovered that the connection didn't have a nut on it. Put a new one on and it's all good now!
  2. Got a bit of a strange issue with my starter motor. Over the last few weeks it's been quite sluggish to start after being sat overnight or for a few hours, taking a couple cranks to go. I usually drive my car once a day but left it for 2 days over the weekend, and when I went to start it, it didn't crank at all. Just clicked when I turned the key. I've had a similar issue in the past when the exciter wire broke off, as is common. I fixed this issue and glued the wire into the motor so it can't come off again. At the time I was able to start it by hitting the starter a bit, which I did again this time and it worked. The battery is only a couple years old and had 12.6V so I'm pretty sure that's ok. Does this point to a faulty motor now? I don't understand why leaving it would make the problem worse though.. can anyone shed some light? Thanks, Chris
  3. Wouldn't the pump fail completely if it was going to? Rather than doing what mine's doing. Also, could a steering angle sensor be faulty and not show any fault codes? From what it's doing it would seem to be electrical somehow, possibly a dodgy connection somewhere?
  4. I've looked at the fuses above the battery and they seem fine. How would I get it plugged into VCDS?
  5. Does that rule out the alternator then? or could it be intermittent?
  6. So I've just checked voltages and I get 12.8V with the engine off and 14.49V with the engine on. The battery light stays on when the other lights disappear as well.
  7. I have a multimeter so will check voltages tomorrow and see about the battery light. Someone told me it could be the steering angle sensor, is this plausible?
  8. Ok thanks, so is there any way to test it? I'd assume it's outputting 14.4V 99% of the time until it randomly drops down and the PAS cuts out but what would cause the voltage to drop?
  9. I haven't, what should it be? Surely if it wasn't working my battery would go flat though?
  10. Hello, I've got an intermittent issue with the power steering on my VRS where it will temporarily cut out while turning sharply (such as when parking), the warning light flashes up, I feel it go heavy and then it comes straight back. Additionally it has fully cut out while driving a handful of times, which has meant I've had to turn it off and on again to get it back. I have taken it to a garage to look at but they couldn't get it to fault and couldn't find an issue without taking things apart and costing me money. They also didn't find any fault codes on the ECU. I checked the power steering fluid which was low so I topped it up but it didn't solve the issue. I have also put a new battery in recently so it can't be that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Chris
  11. Hello, I have the exact same issue as WhiteKnight and have tried the steps mentioned above without any luck (battery, battery fuses, fluid level, fault codes). Does anyone have any other suggestions for what it might be? For some extra info, it's a 2004 fabia vrs and seems to happen when turning sharply at low speeds. It has fully cut out a couple of times too. Requiring the car to be turned off and on again. Any help would be much appreciated!
  12. There are often people breaking mk1 vRSs on the Facebook groups
  13. I ordered these: https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/kea420013-rear-mudguard-flaps-skoda-6074.html But haven't had chance to fit them yet as it seems to be a bit awkward and the pictures on an old thread have gone, any advice or pictures would be appreciated.
  14. Thanks Paul, Managed to loosen the air box and get it detached.
  15. Hi, I've got an intermittent power steering problem so decided to try and top up the fluid. I've got this far but can't work out how to get the tray out to access the filler cap, it seems to be held onto the air box with some rubber grommet thing. Any help would be appreciated. Chris
