  1. I'm seriously contemplating this as an option. I've read the owner's manual off the web but it doesn't seem to tell the full story. How long does it take to open or shut? Can it be opened and shut manually just as a normal tailgate? Can it be closed with a press of the key fob button? Or the button in front of the gear lever? Thanks
  2. Depends what you call normal motorway speeds. I did 50 mpg each way Gloucester to Skegness for summer hols last month in our mk 2 1.4 tsi dsg estate, fully loaded with 4 people and luggage. If you're in a hurry it drops to low 40s. I average 40 overall and that includes mostly short urban trips. Motorway roadworks can force the mog up as you're stuck at lower speed for a while. I'd expect a mk3 to better this, certainly hope so as I've got one on order!
  3. Had my 1.4 TSi (Mk2FL) DSG for nearly 4 years now without a single problem.
  4. I've gone for a 1+47 deal on my new Mk3 ordered earlier this month (personal contract hire) including maintenance - it works out the same total amount paid over the four years as a 3+47, 6+47 or 9+47, just the monthly payments are slightly higher to compensate for the lower initial payment. I'd rather have the extra upfront money in my account now earning interest. Excess mileage is 8p/mile.
  5. Jet Vehicle Finance; Fleetprices - both seemed to have the lowest prices when I was looking a few weeks ago
  6. If it's water vapour, it will quickly evaporate and disappear. If it's smoke, it will hang around (and smell) and probably have a slight blue tinge to it. Is there any emulsified oil under the filler cap? Is your header tank level dropping? Either of these could point to a blown head gasket. Though as Supe says, it might just be water collected in the exhaust system.
  7. Are you sure its smoke and not water vapour?
  8. I find the thunk of the locks closing when you click the key plenty loud enough to confirm the car's locked, don't need the plips.
  9. Mine has sawtoothed rears - Conti Sport Contact 2s on an FL Elegance estate
  10. I'm interested to know what happens to a new car between the time it leaves the factory paint shop and you are handed the keys. What do Skoda do at the factory; what is done during transportation; what does the dealer do? I've just ordered my Mk3 and would like to keep it looking 'as new', but is 'as new' as good as it gets? I can imagine a dealer giving the car to a spotty apprentice who washes and polishes it badly putting loads of swirly scratches all over it before you even get to touch it yourself.
  11. I've got pdf versions of the January, April, June and August 2010 brochures. If you pm me your email address I'll send you the August version - it's too large to attach to this reply (2MB limit and its over 4MB). I've got the 1.4 TSi DSG Elegance estate - very happy with it, though getting a MK3 in November when the lease runs out.
  12. Yes please, though I'd rather have cider. Haven't got VCDS, does that matter?
  13. My mistake, think it's steel grey you can no longer get.
  14. Wiggo, no I'm not planning on going for the xenons. Don't know who dealer will be as I'm getting it on contract hire so unfortunately not likely to be my local dealer Blade (are they your local dealer too?)
  15. I don't think you can spec metal grey on an Elegance any more? Think it's only available on remaining stock.
  16. Thanks for the replies. Brochure pic doesn't show the two together so difficult to assess difference, although I have subsequently found a post that shows the two side by side. I didn't think it made it worth £150, but if brake lights are led then I think that changes things as I've noticed on other cars they light up instantly compared to ordinary filament bulbs that take a (albeit very short) time to heat up. May well spec them!
  17. Do both mirrors dim, or just the driver's, like my O2? Option says mirrors (plural) so should be both. If not, it's misrepresentation.
  18. Hi. I'm thinking about speccing these as an option on my new 1.4 tsi elegance estate. How do they differ from the standard lights in function and appearance? Thanks.
  19. So, I'm about to order a 1.4 tsi dsg Elegance estate - brochure says it gets electrically folding, adjustable and heated door mirrors. No mention of them being auto dimming or having the puddle lights. Configurator has two options for adding folding mirrors, one if you also spec elec seats and says auto dimming, boarding spots and memory function, one just saying auto dimming. Both show the boarding spots. I have the electric folding mirrors with dimming and spots on my Mk2 (specced as an extra at the time back in 2010) and want them on my new one. What the hell is the configurator option for?? Do I not get the dimming function and/or spots as standard, although as you got them I guess if you get the folding mirrors, you get the full package with dimming and spots? Or am I just wasting my time looking at the configurator?
  20. You get ivory carpet too. My previous Octy was ivory and I bought a set of the proper Skoda mats in ivory to match. I also don't like the dark interiors, so ordered ivory for the current car - when it was delivered it came with black trim. Given the state my young kids left the ivory in the previous car I decided to stick with the black - I don't mind it too much now, but would prefer some more grey rather than black bits to lighten things up. The result is I have a set of ivory mats that are surplus to requirements. Don't know where you are, but if you wanted them, you would be welcome.
  21. I both put a dent and scuff in my front wing and then someone scraped the corner of the rear bumper - got the dent taken out by the Dent Clinic for £120 then the painting done by the local Chipsaway for £140, both done at work so I didn't lose use of the car. Would have cost a small fortune if done by insurance and a premium hike.
