  1. How would you raise it in DIY conditions? Any tips for beginners haha
  2. The professional I contacted said they'd require the car for 5 days so I'd imagine they'll do it properly, I don't really have anywhere to take it to raise it and I don't think I as a beginner could do it anyway 😑 So it's just the matter of cost and whether my car really needs it, but I suppose it will be useful before another winter in Scotland. I had a passat before and never bothered as there was no need but I've been fussing about my skoda ever since I got it, even though it's in much better condition than previous car 😐
  3. Thank you, I'm thinking of sending it away to get this done as I'm not sure I'll manage myself 🤔
  4. Will kurust help on this? 🥴
  5. Has anyone had their car under sealed by a professional? Is it worth it? Car in question is a 2008 octavia, on the road all year round, I have been jet washing it under chassis since I got it but I'm sure it'd do with some more proper tlc. Any advice of what I could do to help prevent it from rotting 🥴 Thanks
  6. Please can I have some advice. I've sanded off a bit of rust, put kurust on it, it turned black but unfortunately I didn't put a primer on it 😳 and then it rained 🤦‍♀️ Yes I'm a bad car owner. Hopefully it'll stay dry today, should I do a bit more sanding, then reapply kurust then primer or just put primer on it straight away? Thanks
  7. A remapped diesel to fly about the country (to work that is 😂) And an old track car. Both stunning when washed. Good condition. Fast. Loved. Both needed 😂😂
  8. Ok so today I've been told that in order to end my financial struggles, I should sell one of my 2 cars. The person in question could not understand how it is possible to keep 2 cars and I should be grateful for the good advice 😂 Personally I find keeping a car cheaper than keeping some pets, and the 2 old bangers I drive put a smile on my face when everything else fails! Just venting.
  9. Wow so it is a bit of a crap engine after all. I was warned not to get one but 😆 since I already got it.. It had already been mapped and runs perfect why part with it 🥰 Edit: and that's not my opinion, there are a few mechanics in my family, and they weren't impressed when I got this car. Their loss
  10. Nope, take it it's a disaster waiting to happen? Car's at 165k miles and keeps going
  11. Well it says so in the service book. Am I bad owner for not checking it myself 😅
  12. Aww thank you! Any chance of having this checked at home? Car's literally just out of the garage. It has actually had a solid flywheel fitted in not long ago, so not sure this is relevant but being solid would it make it worse? Thanks
  13. And I began my motoring adventures with the good old 1.9 tdi 😅 I may be stuck in the past 😂
  14. Gotta love a VW! Having said that I'm absolutely delighted with my VRS 👌👌
  15. Speed varies, I tend to rev it a lot and I don't like driving at an established pace like a bus if that makes sense. But I've been told this applied even to old Passats, and you should lose speed a few miles before pulling up so turbo can cool down 😂
  16. Couple of minutes is what it gets every time, but I don't like the knocks and bangs I hear at times, maybe just need to turn up the radio 😂
  17. Why is it people do it with their vw golf then 🤔 It's an advice from a mechanic.
  18. Hello, Wondering if anyone else does similar. I have a habit of letting my car idle for a few minutes at the end of the trip. It's so the turbo can cool off because there is a risk of it getting blocked by burned residue if the engine is switched off too soon. I've always driven tdi but been told this applies to petrol engines as well. Wondering how long should you leave it running for? Some days it's quiet, but some days you can almost hear a bang when the engine shuts off, even after a few minutes of idling. Am I damaging the engine? Should I let it idle longer? My car is a 2008 2.0 tdi pd engine and it's driven mostly on motorway but my driving can be quite intense. Just wondering how long it needs to cool off and if it's really a thing with these cars as I've heard even cylinders can become damaged on this car if I don't do this. I'm worried by the knocks and bangs I hear at times. Thanks
  19. Thanks! Great, so it took me nearly 3 months to actually get parts and to find someone able to replace it to find out it's not necessary, 3 months of worrying that it may go any day 😂 quite a relief even though I'll need to try to return parts to the supplier, could be an issue 😅
  20. Hello, Please does anyone know were the BMN engines affected as well? Thanks
  21. Hello, Please any mechanics on here? I have a 2008 octavia 2.0 tdi pd engine, I was advised to replace the oil pump balance shaft when I purchased the car. I have just had a call from the garage, and they say they've been in touch with skoda and the car doesn't have a balance shaft. Please does anyone know which engines were affected with the issue? I know VW fixed it at some point but I wasn't able to figure whether my car was affected or not. My car is 2008, engine code BMN. I'm just utterly surprised as I have supplied parts from a company that apparently specialises in replacements of the faulty balance shaft and it was them who advised me to pick the right kit for the job, surely they would have told me it wasn't necessary if that were the case? 🤔 Anyone know which cars and models were affected? Thanks
  22. Following this as may be looking to do something to my octavia vrs. Car feels really wobbly and handling feels poor. I have done tracking to it and shocks are fine for the time being. But it just doesn't feel right. I have another car and that one is on eibach springs. It's a dream to drive but very stiff and uncomfortable on bumps and most roads to be fair (it's a track car). I don't want this kind of thing to happen with the octavia but it'd do with an upgrade, looking for something intermediate not too stiff but I want better handling. Any suggestions or do I just lower on springs. Thanks
  23. Would anyone be able to recommend a garage able to do the balance shaft replacement in my 2.0 PD tdi? Must be located in Scotland. Been looking for 2 months now with no luck. No mechanics able to do it, found a garage but they now claim i need to do the whole pump replacement? I have the balance shaft, key and a bottle of oil sitting here just need someone to do this work! Please if anyone has had this work done on their car please get in touch. Thanks
  24. So I have purchased a Skoda Octavia with an eonon d5153 installed. After reading on the subject, I realise it's no surprise it doesn't work properly. It worked for a few days after purchasing the car, now the screen stopped responding and there is no way of getting into settings to try calibrate it. It'll only play the radio and CDs and as such it's not much use to me. I have contacted eonon, but, no surprise here, they advised that I should replace the whole unit. I'm thinking it either needs calibrating, or some wires will need reconnected but not sure which ones? I'm much technically skilled so haven't yet disconnected the unit to check what it's like behind it. Anyone had a similar problem and how did you resolve it. I cannot afford a new car stereo atm. Thanks
  25. I know it's an old topic but hopefully someone can help. I've just purchased a 2008 octavia 2.0 TDI with 165k miles and I'm looking to replace the oil pump/oil pump drive but it's proving difficult to find parts and a garage who'd actually do this job. Any recommendations on whether I should try have the whole oil pump replaced, or just the drive and what parts to get? I know there are replacement parts available that would likely prevent the catastrophe from happening, instead of fitting the same parts that'll eventually wear out and be a source of worry again in another 100k miles or so. Anyone managed to prevent the disaster or fix the failure? Anyone on here with a 2.0 TDI with over 200k on clock and still running?
